  1. Real Science 4 Kids (RS4K) is just the science, no Creation/evolution stuff. We we're using it happily but I've decided I want science to be more of a read and explorer type thing.
  2. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!! Thanks for being so wonderful, kind and always ready to share advice. Hope you're having a FANTASTIC day!!:party::party:
  3. You can take as much time as you want. There are 42 chapters but some time periods have more scope for extra study than others. I'd say we usually spend roughly 40 weeks.
  4. I'm with Sue, if you think it would be better to not do history, don't! Just because lots of other people do history at that age doesn't mean you have to.:chillpill:
  5. This was the same as my mom. I was so relieved that she was so calm and organized. One of my friends had gotten her period a few moths before and her mom made a big deal about it, I was scared my mom would do the same thing. But there was no fuss, I suppose she told my dad but he never mentioned to me. A few years ago my sister asked me when I got my period. We were both 12 and a 1/4, her period is usually begins one day before mine.
  6. Here too.:) But you wouldn't want them, unless you like to listen to Mozart, the clatter of dishes, two conversations and a 3yo reading aloud all at once. It's not what I consider quiet.:)
  7. DD12, DS10, DD7, DS6 and DS2 were adopted recently after the death of their parents and my friends. DD9 wasn't planned, DD6 was. Then we lost a few.:crying: DD3 was planned and so are the twins I'm pregnant with now, although not the twin part.:)
  8. I think so. For awhile I was a disgrace, teen pregnancy, divorce, single parenting and I HOMESCHOOLED my kids. Now things are different, she loves my kids and keeps telling me I'm a good mom. We never talk about my ex, what became of him I don't want to know and I've remarried. She also understands homeschooling better and is constantly impressed by how much my kids have learnt. But I'm not a mathmagician like I said I'd be when I was six, so I'm not sure if she's fully satisfied.
  9. I've hear so much about it recently, I wish I could go.:)
  10. We do SOTW. You can think I'm crazy if you want, but we do. It works really well for us and keeps all my kids on the same topic. We read SOTW then discuss it all together, read books/literature (different books depending on age) and maybe have some more discussion. Then the older ones do outlining, essays and narration while the younger ones do narration. We try to do a craft or lapbook. Older DC do memorization, maybe some philosophy/government/ethics/religion depending on the particular topic. We vary from week to week so I've got no firm answer,
  11. You made me smile too. :) A true blessing from God.
  12. This is what we do too. We read KF because we like it, but not for outlining. We like to express our own ideas.:)
  13. When you finish SOTW 1 I'd move on to SOTW 2, there's no rush. As for art and science, are you wanting a Christian or secular curriculum for science and is you're art hands on, appreciation or a mixture?
  14. We have something similar here. There's a family on our street that we're friends with, me, DH, kids, everyone. We used to go over for dinner and they'd come over, but now that we have eight kids, it never happens. I've invited them over but there's always some excuse and they never invite us. We'll be moving soon and it would be nice to spend some time together, but I'm not going to force them. I dont have any advice, but you're not alone.
  15. I used to count from K, now I count from birth. It's a lot easier for me to say that we've always homeschooled. None of my kids have ever been to school, but five of them were adopted so I have only been a "teacher" for five years. Kids learn from birth, I teach them from birth. When people ask how long I've homsechooled I say "Forever, and we don't want to stop.":)
  16. LFC is lots of fun, I'm sure you'll like it. DD7 is thrilled with the idea of doing Latin next year, LFC A.
  17. Maybe my kids will have to do everything all over again, but I don't think so. I could buy them Singapore math and make them do it because it's "better" than TT. But I'm not going to because, IMO, it's more important to love math and have a basic understanding than be able to solve complex equations but hate doing it.
  18. I don't like it either, to much violence and sci - fi for me.
  19. Star Wars, what's that??? I think I've seen one movie, don't ask which one, I didn't like it, never, ever. I'm hoping my kids don't get into it, so far, so good.:)
  20. I've been reading for about 4 years but didn't start posting until November, October, December??? I dunno.
  21. :smilielol5: LOL! I was just thinking how lucky I was to live where I am.:)
  22. My 2nd grader does: history science math poetry phonics reading Bible music and art appreciation violin I'd start with reading, math and phonics if needed, then add on the extras.
  23. Sure! I have no prior logic and love FD and TT. Really fun and a great introduction.:)
  24. We've never done an IQ test, I don't see any need. It is obvious that DD12 is reading well ahead of grade level when she reads original works of Shakespeare at age 8 and can tell you just what's happening. There is no doubt that DS10 knows a lot of science when he and DH (doctor) can talk for hours about the human body, and each learn a lot from each other. Most 9yos don't write on the level of DD9, nor with the passion she does. And most 9yos don't decided that they need to know algebra right now and then read every algebra book, including my old university textbooks, in the house. DD3 reads fluently on a fourth grade level and reads almost anything she can. There are many more examples of my children's accleartedness but if I keep going I'll just brag, brag, brag.;)
  25. Ugh. I have that problem too, I'll go to rep someone and I am told that I've repped to many people, so I wait twenty - four hours and then I use my rep up on someone else.:) Anyone know how to help?
