  1. That is one of the series. I just looked at goodreads and the other series is to be released in 2014. Since it looked good to you I went ahead and put a request in. I never know how things will go with that library system but I have really enjoyed the other series so will give it a try. Thanks for the link Robin. I vaguely remember the story and was going to find it for dd. She liked it I guess....thinks it is like "Hunger Games".
  2. Great news about your son. I have loved reading about his experiences and glad to hear all is going so well. I did not know about your tumor. I will be praying for you! :grouphug:
  3. I finally finished the books I have been working on this week! "Single White Vampire" by Lynsay Sands -- it is the first Argeneau Vampire book written just not the first in the series. It was OK. Simply wasn't as good as I was expecting which left me disappointed. I do have the next one downloaded and will read it.. "Timeless" by Gail Carriger is the last book in the Souless seris and I loved it. There are apparently two spin off series but I don't have easy library access to them. Just wondering if anyone here has read them? I tried to read Deaver's "October List" this morning. Already abandoned it. The book starts at the end and works backwards. Appears not to be part of the Lincoln Rhymes series. Not the book for me currently but might interest someone else. I have the new J.D. Robb and Frankenstein to read next.
  4. Gatorland is fun. Ds has chosen it for a birthday trip.
  5. Great news!!!! Glad you are all rested. Please check in and give us all the details when you have a chance.
  6. We are moved!!!!!! Sleeping in the new house tonight! I started "Dead of Night" by Charlaine Harris and Amanda Stevens. I read the first one "Dancer's in the Night" by Harris. It was OK but couldn't seem to concentrate on the second.
  7. :grouphug: My ds13 is driving me nuts right now! The outside world sees a responsible lovely cooperative young man. He gives me the I am tired whine constantly. Because we are moving/renovating a house I signed him up for some Coursera where my requirement is to earn his certificates for the classes, it has been a great experiece for him. Dealing with deadlines etc. He is managing with his sister(who is taking some of the same classes) reminding him a bit! It has taken the pressure off of me for a few weeks and taught him time management and a bit about what outside expectations are like. He is ready to go back to "homeschool" (me as teacher) as long as he gets to keep doing computer programming. I am ready, actually looking forward to it too.
  8. I did manage to finish "Veil of Midnight" by Lara Adrian. It was the next midnight breed in the series so it needed to be finished before it disappeared from my kindle because it was a library book. Has anybody else renewed their kindle library books with the new feature? I managed to do one but still haven't had time to read it. Robin, the pictures are lovely. Glad you had a great time! :)
  9. Glad to "see" you back on the thread. I read People of the Book at the start of the year and loved it! :)
  10. You are the only ones who will get this.....books staying dry is a major priority. This was most likely the last day without rain for our move. My new neighbor looked at me very seriously this morning and said that we need to get the furniture done today so it doesn't get wet. My response was the books were today's priority. Took a good chunk of today but we did the bookshelves too! She is definately wondering about us.....
  11. :grouphug: praying for a complete recovery!
  12. Fruit cake is the cake normally served in the winter months in our part of England. Birthday cakes etc frequently turn out to be fruit cake. Love the cake detest the marzipan. They switch to Victoria Sponge in spring...yummy. http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/victoriasponge_13555
  13. Storm Bay -- My Dc's watch Once Upon a Time. I watched for awhile but got a bit lost and never bothered to figure it out. It is their favorite. The new season won't start here until spring. They can't wait! Darkly Dreaming Dexter is the same characters as the show. The book was violent but not quite as much as the show imo. The old seasons show here (UK) occasionally on a free station. I watched the parts corresponding to the book last year. We don't have paid TV either but we do have a DVR so I record a few odd series and watch later.
  14. Dh moved next door when we were 14. Best friends ever since! Married 25 years.
  15. We are still trying to figure out how the slug got inside DH's shoe the other morning! He left them in the entryway inside of the house. Not a happy man! Hardly any slugs this year then last week everywhere....
  16. I log in to all cards every Sunday evening. Renew everything due in the next week. After the first renewal everything due same day. :) basket for returns. All books not actively being read on the same bookshelf so they can be found easily if the renewal doesn't work.
  17. I finished "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" and I have to say an incredible amount of the book made it into the TV series -- all out of order and different seasons but much more of it was there then I imagined could be. I just spent 6 weeks learning about remediation of the same work into different art forms with ds for Coursera -- the Lord of the Rings class. This book made an interesting and completely different  example for me since I have watched the episodes covered by the book. I normally don't like comparing books to shows/movies. That was what I liked best with Dexter, maybe because I read the book after??? Floridamom -- If you didn't enjoy the show I don't think you would care for the book. Too much the same. Imo
  18. Love both Hitchcock and Godzilla. I really hate the Friday the 13th type. They are way too upsetting for me! Someone else will have to try the Dracula show for me first, I loved Moonlight but the pictures in the ad look at bit intense.
  19. I just finished "Heartless" and it was soooo good. Much better then the second and third in the series. I absolutely adored the baby. Much better then most books with unusual supernatural births. I have the next one ready to go! :) Our move is back on track! We have been entertaining the pub patrons next door. We are literally moving from one side of the pub to the other so carrying most things down the street. We have made many new friends this week, some rather odd encounters. ;)
  20. We are in the middle of our move right now. Declutter as much as you can. We gave a huge load of stuff to friends who just moved over from the States a few weeks ago. So glad that is all gone. Major renovations happened at new house. I am not sure how old your dc's are but I signed mine up for a couple of coursera courses each during this busy time for me. The classes are free and they love it! Has mads life much easier.
  21. We had a crazy bird that dived boomed our bedroom window every morning. Our living dog ran away as soon as the bird started but after the first whack we would put a life sized ceramic springer spaniel in the window. As soon as the dog got in position the bird gave up -- every time. It could be there before, to easy.
