  1. bought 2 BCM student texts (8th edition), solutions manual and lesson and test prep DVDs, 2 Introductory Algebra student texts (8th) and solutions manual. all 33 dollars shipped!
  2. found some dvds and test prep that went along with the texts for 3 dollars shipped. Not sure if they are worthwhile but woo hoo! I love shopping Abebooks!
  3. I'm looking at purchasing the 8th edition of Lial's BCM for my boys to do as Pre-A in 7th. I can't seem to locate an Instructor's Manual. Is it a necessity? Would we be okay with just a student solutions manual? Does the Instructor's manual actually have how to teach the concepts? We are coming from Rod and Staff where very rarely do I need the teacher's manual. Also, if I were to go ahead and buy the next level, would that be Introductory Algebra and does that count as Algebra 1?
  4. I left my family church right after marriage. I grew up in it. It hurt for a long while and it still stings to see some of the people that used to be like family to me. Our church had a mass exodus though. I'd say nearly a split between two families that dominated the small church. Everyone that left scattered to their own churches. We see less of family than when I grew up. It is bittersweet. I miss some things but I know me leaving was best.
  5. Brooks running shoes. They have great arch support and ankle stability.
  6. awe, man! So happy board is up and running. It went out last night AND I woke up this morning at 6am for my coffee and forum fix to it still down. I was twitching. :zombie: :zombiechase: <--- me and my procrastination catching up with me. I nearly had to do dishes?!
  7. I shall begin. Best All Around Pooper During the Designated School Day: this award is awarded to the regularly regular overachiever of porcelain deposits during study hours. Perfect Pencil Dropping Record: this award is awarded to the child that has been able to successfully drop their pencil and hunt for it daily all school year long. They may even have the ability to drop it while laying in the floor! What awards should you create specifically for your homeschoolers? eta: just a little humor. I am gagging in mediocre awards of PS students on social media today. Figured we could award our kids of stupid stuff, too!
  8. Milk music is a good freebie. We pay for google music
  9. We had the "tacky honey oak" HGTV convinced me to paint them....wish I had just refinished the doors. They were worn out finish wise but I don't like cleaning the white cabinet doors I have now. I prefer the look of a white cabinet but it was not a wise choice with four kids that like to trash a kitchen.
  10. People remodeling or adding on with just builder grade materials? We desperately want more space and may do an addition to our house. However, all of the latest tv shows show high end materials. That is all fine and dandy if you can afford it but sheesh! I will take cheap carpet in an addition if that is all I can afford at this point! I love some of those shows but I get aggravated watching at times. If I can just get the space added to my home, I will upgrade it down the road. Why must we have granite, tile, hardwoods, custom cabinets in bathrooms?!
  11. Awe, thanks ladies :) I am enjoying a lazy day of no teaching!
  12. yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss :zombiechase:
  13. well my legal name is Amanda but I go by Mandy. I like them both I suppose. However, I feel like an old soul and love older sounding names. Like the movie out right now, Adaline... I love that name! My middle name nearly rhymes with it..maybe I should have an identity crisis and go by my middle name :p
  14. :001_rolleyes: They were chatting online through headsets, the child heard their tone of voice and them giggling. It was clearly in jest.
  15. I had to have a bit of conversation with my kids about soft words just this week. They have some really good friends whouse parents are super strict, like I was raised. Soft words and phrases are really offensive to them and even the kids will get really upset with my kids. This past week my boys used the phrase "i hate you" while gaming online and being sniped. The kid was truly upset and logged off, not logging back on till they apologized. The way they used the phrase was in a kidding attitude. I just told them that they should respect their friend and try not to intentionally use phrases to irritate them. However, I think friend is old enough to understand others don't hold to same beliefs on words as innocent as the word hate or shut up. I told them they need to stop apologizing till he comes back online. That implicates they are doing wrong.
  16. Bare minimum, can't scrimp another thing: math, phonics and spelling, handwriting. I would also consider trips to museums, nature walks, watching documentaries and free reading books educational. I suppose I can be very minimal. We do teach more than this but this is what I consider my bare minimum.
  17. Hunger Games target age? I let my son read Hunger Games, Divergent, War of the Worlds, etc. I'm horrible at not knowing what target age he is reading haha
