Can we talk about "fairness" and siblings?
ticklbee replied to Sue G in PA's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I really hate the "it's not fair" whine. Really. What might work is this: "Oh, you think XXX is unfair? It's not unfair because of XXX. But I will show you what unfairness is. When everyone has dessert, you may not have any (or watch a tv show, or play a game...whatever you can come up with.) Now do you see the difference? Next time, think before you complain." What this will (hopefully) do is put things into perspective. Now the first thing doesn't seem so unfair anymore. -
A Walk in the Clouds Here's a brief synopsis: After World War II ends, a disillusioned veteran (Keanu Reeves) is working as a traveling salesman when he meets a pregnant woman (Aitana Sanchez-Gijon) enroute to Napa Valley to help her family with the grape harvest. She needs someone to pose as her husband at her family's vineyard, and the ex-soldier agrees. Dh and I really enjoyed this.

I have two more codes for CBD (Christian Book Distributors). I posted this in the General forum but am posting it here for those of you who don't frequent that one. 1. 251512PA 10% off orders of $35 or more (found in Focus on Family magazine). Expires Sept. 30th 2. 271871ACCVKN Free shipping off orders of $35 or more. Expires Sept. 14th You can not combine these codes. You have to use one or the other and they can only be used once per customer. I just have to give a plug for CBD. I found their prices very competitive w/Rainbow Resource. I placed my very large order on Monday of this week and Tuesday afternoon 95% of my order was sitting on my porch. And this was with using a free shipping code. I was impressed to say the least. Happy Shopping! :D

Has anyone watched Wipeout?
ticklbee replied to ticklbee's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Those announcers really make the show. They are so funny! -
We are watching it for the first time right now and my kids are laughing hysterically at it! You couldn't pay me enough to do that obstacle course! :D

I have a fairly large library here, and can't find books all the time. I think a large part of it is books simply being put back where they don't belong. So many times as I'm looking for books I will see books misfiled. My library does it's best but patrons can be so lazy and shove books anywhere. When a book is misfiled, it's really hard to track it down. This seems to be worse in the children's section then in the adults.

Can you help with food ideas for our theater kids?

What is the weirdest thing your kids like to eat?
ticklbee replied to *anj*'s topic in General Education Discussion Board
Pigs feet. My oldest dd went through a pigs feet phase. She loved them! I was so nauseated just watching her eat them. Blech. Thankfully that phase didn't last too long! :tongue_smilie: ETA: Today she ate white rice w/sour cream and mustard wrapped in a tortilla w/a pickle on the side for lunch! She comes up with the weirdest food combinations. -
NYers, how would you report this on your IHIP?
ticklbee replied to Amy in NY's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I don't have any advice, but I questioned my local hs group about some requirements for 7th grade and someone referred me to the HSLDA website. I haven't checked it out yet to see if it would answer my question, but possibly they could offer some clarification? ETA: I understand that HSLDA has a whole section dedicated to high school, so I bet they would be able to help you with how you should keep the records for this. -
What do you do at a baby shower?
ticklbee replied to Danestress's topic in General Education Discussion Board
There's baby shower bingo. Everyone gets a blank bingo card and they write in the boxes what gifts they think she will get. As the gifts are opened, you play your card until someone gets BINGO! The game can continue for multiple Bingo's or just the first one. -
I thought your quote said $500 dollars...never mind :)

Sales Tax @ Amazon??? Argh...
ticklbee replied to ticklbee's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I don't know for sure, but when I googled searched this, it said NY was going after the online "giants." -
I posted this in the General Forum, but for those who may not frequent that board, I thought I would post it here too. Code: 272495 I think it's good until Sept 8, but not sure. Happy Shopping! :D

Sales Tax @ Amazon??? Argh...
ticklbee replied to ticklbee's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I had no idea we were supposed to do that. So if I buy something tax free in another state, I am supposed to come back to NY and pay them the sales tax on it? Sheesh! -
I can't believe I have to pay sales tax at Amazon now. I am so mad about this! I just placed an order with them and noticed that they charged me sales tax and wondered why so I did a google search. Well, it seems that NY has come up with yet another way to separate their residents from their money. We are second behind CA. for the highest taxes in the nation and it's just getting worse. If a store or business did not have a physical presence in NY (brick & mortar), then they did not have to collect the sales tax. But NY has found a loophole around this and are forcing Amazon to collect taxes for them. Amazon is fighting it apparently, but as of June 1, New Yorkers pay tax at Amazon. Argh! They are taxing us to DEATH! (Other states want to jump on the bandwagon too as it will bring in millions of more dollars for them to squander and waste! Yay!)
