  1. There are 2 issues with this bill. 1 - It's centered around questionable science and 2 - It is violating Ammendment 10 of the Bill of Rights. As for #1, I live in a 150 year old drafty farmhouse. To bring it to the standards in this bill would cost a fortune - probably more than the house is worth - and prohibit any sale of my home in the future. We work hard ourselves to keep cost down simply because we aren't rich and can't afford large heating/electric bills. (And even if I was rich, I would still work to keep my bills low.) If this bill passes the Senate, and it probably will, I will be in this house till I die because we won't be able to afford the 'upgrades' to move. And, #2, the Federal Government is severely overstepping it's constitutional rights with it's passage in the House. No where in the Constitution does it say the Federal Government can mandate what is in a private home. It's absolute hogwash. What right/individual choice will they take away next?
  2. Others have stated valid reasons as to why not: not all cervical CA is caused by HPV, regular paps catch HPV infection, and it is a slow growing cancer that is in effect 100% curable. I would like to add that HPV infection normally clears the body within 3 years without any problems (I think the only problem there is that for 3 years the infected person is a carrier.) Also, someone mentioned giving out condoms in lieu of the vaccine. This is great in concept except that the virus can still be passed on with condom use. This happened to a close friend's daughter. I wanted to comment after reading the blog link and case history about the girl who developed juvenile ALS (Lou Gherig's disease.) Her case history is remarkable for previous auto-immune illness, plus ADD and speech/developmental delays. She has a history of neurological problems. While it will be hard to say that the gardisil vaccine definitely caused her ALS and ultimately her death, I think that it looks very suspicious. I urge anyone who is considering this vaccine to look at your child's history and family history for auto-immune diseases and neurological problems before consenting to this vaccine...or any other vaccine, for that matter. I don't think that VAERS is accurate nor do I trust the studies that come out about vaccine safety. There are too many $$ at stake as well as the conscience of those who have been taught that they are ok and necessary for our children. Edited to add the following: I realized this after the fact that this post might be construed as directed toward Mad Jenny Flint. I merely ended up below her post. I think she is quite brave to be the sole dissenter thus far.
  3. He does seem fine this morning. We think the blood may have been from a paw b/c I found a fine smear on some laundry on the kitchen floor. He didn't want to eat anything last night but I'll try bread this morning. As for the glass bowl, the type I have shatters into small ice chip size chunks so it would have been very easy for him to swallow some. I let the dog sleep in bed with us - big no, no, I know - just to keep him close in case anything happened. The night was uneventful and he is outside running around right now. I will take him to the vet tomorrow to get him on some antibx and will monitor his stool & eating habits today to see if I can gauge how his tummy feels. Thank you so much and I'll let you know how tomorrow goes. Enjoy your day and I will definitely invest in some metal bowls!
  4. I left a large glass bowl on the counter tonight with macaroni in it. My large mutt (bull-mastiff mix) managed to knock the bowl onto the kitchen floor and ate some of it while we were out. We are not sure how much he ate but there was a thin amount of blood smeared on the kitchen floor so I know the dog ate some of the macaroni and glass. He has drank water but doesn't want to eat food which is very unusual for him. I did a quick google search and read that I am supposed to give him some bread to cushion the sharpness of the glass. Is this true? Is there anything else I can do? Thanks.
  5. (I edited this to add a bunch more...told you my brain was a bit fuzzy!) Government money = my money. Healthcare should never be rationed; every human life is valuable. I question HOW the government will spend the money and why they should be given the authority to pay medical bills. I haven't read past this response so I don't know if this has been addressed. In my little ideal world (:tongue_smilie:) there would be no such thing as health insurance period. Market would drive the cost with the consumer at the wheel. But since I must live in reality, I would really like to see government out of the health insurance business completely - no medicare, medicaid or mandate coverage (in health insurance policies.) I think that the policies would have to get better if we, the people, were given actual choices instead of policy coverage through our employers which coverage choices confined within the state line. Also, here in NY, there is a 9% tax added to your bill if you don't have insurance. People are not encouraged to be independent; rather to depend on some sort of system to pay their bills. Have you ever looked at what your doctor or pharmacist gets reimbursed for a visit? I took dd for a well child check last June w/no insurance. $120 for the visit. Fast forward to now, dd has insurance. Same well child check - doctor is reimbursed $45. Tell me why I can't be paying $45 out of pocket for an office visit? Why must I pay almost $700/month in premiums to so I can go to the doctor and have a $40 office visit co-pay? Since working in a doctor's office, I know first hand Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP programs reimburse almost nothing. Look at what you put into the Medicare system in your paycheck. How much of our taxes go to Medicaid? And how LITTLE is actually paid to the health care providers who care for these people. It is insane. RE: medications. Our small village pharmacy will no longer accept one part of Medicare b/c they haven't been paid for over a year. How does that happen? BTW, part of my post was tongue in cheek - obviously, my tone didn't come through over the internet. On one hand, you have people clamoring for government prescription programs and then, when they get them, they find out that they get get the medications that they were on originally. I hope that makes sense. It's late and I've had a long day so my brain is a bit fuzzy.
  6. Hmmm....I recently read this online and then watched the video. Regardless of politics and religion, any group that used these tactics to further their cause would be suspect in my mind. http://frontpagemagazine.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID=27DDCD06-E94A-45AE-B3FD-B28CE98AB324
  7. Sorry to side track, but this already happens. Insurance companies deny tests and medications daily. And, here in NY (and I am sure elsewhere), pt's on medicare are having a harder time getting some of their meds covered - even thought they have such wonderful coverage through our government. It (rationing) has already begun.
  8. What a beautiful baby and you have such a lovely family! Merry Christmas!
  9. Due to my working schedule and weather, we still haven't gotten our tree. We usually go out to a local tree farm on a mountain here, hike around and cut one down. Well, I have to work today, then go into the city (not NYC) to finish shopping. By the time I get home, it will be too dark to get a tree. I could go shopping tomorrow morning before work so that we could get the tree tonight but we are supposed to get another storm. So, no shopping and no time to get a tree. My kids, who are all awake - woohoo - just suggested that we cut down a very small tree growing in our yard. I've always resisted that but today, it sounds like a very good idea. So, while I have no real advice, you are not alone in your tree dilemma. If it was just dh and myself, I'd say skip the tree. But routine and tradition are important to kids. Therefore, Dh will be chopping down one of our trees today (which means my neighbors will be able to see more into my yard. Yuck.)
  10. When we first got it, I thought it was way too much vehicle for me to drive. Now, I can't live without it. We do a lot of traveling and camping; it's size has come in handy for what we do. Plus, when the seats are down/out, you can fit a lot into it for local transport, like our refrigerator that dh just brought to the transfer station. Plus, with the 4wd and the size of the truck - that's essentially what it is - I feel very safe driving in winter weather. In fact, I had to drive to work yesterday during the ice storm, early in the morning. While I had to go slow, I had no doubt that I was safe on the roads. One last thing, even though a Suburban is really a truck, mine rides like a car. It's really a great vehicle. I would get another one in an instant.
  11. It looks like you all are recommending the larger one. I wasn't even thinking about groceries (limiting how much I buy due to fridge size.) I might just pop over to the local appliance store this afternoon to get a feel on which size would work. I tried to find out what size I currently have but can't find the manual. Thanks!
