I think she might need more time. How about making a list of each room and what you would like done? Then she can check things off as she goes. We have a typical 4 br ,2.5 bath home, (maybe 2200 sq. ft.) and it takes 3-4 girls (The Maids, franchise) about an hour and a half to clean it pretty thoroughly. HTH! Nan

Weird! My outlaws, oops, I mean inlaws, once accused a house painter of stealing a ring from their home ( :thumbdown:). He denied it vehemently. Well, 20, yes 20, years later they found the ring in the grass in front of their house! Life is strange. Nan

At least $1,000 for one ds, age 11. That includes homeschool gym class. Some of it I get back by selling curriculum here at the end of the year. We are a book loving family so we buy a lot of books/videos rather than get them at the library. This year (Ancients) is heavy on hands-on, so that makes this year a bit more expensive. We don't skimp on homeschooling, but I admit I made several changes in curriculum for next year :banghead: so unless I sell them or use them next year, it was an expensive year. Nan

My ds, 11, likes some Zoo game that was recently released. There are the animal games where you care for pets. If you go to Amazon dot com, you can see parental reviews of the games. That's sometimes helpful. How about racing games? Mario Kart? HTH! Nan

HUGS! :grouphug: I did have 2 miscarriages, but one was a twin accident (identical twins, one sac, no separating membrane) in which the cord strangled them at 12 weeks). I was using a fertility doc. After testing, I was found to have a problem which would have needed an expensive treatment. We did one round of treatment, then decided to adopt. :001_smile: I would see a fertility doc, as there are many treatments for miscarriages. Some as simple as taking an aspirin a day! But really, I just wanted to say I am so sorry for your loss. Nan

I have a wonderful 15 year old nephew who is going to do some painting for me. He's starting out with painting 2 small bathrooms. One is really only 1 full wall (maybe 6x8) with the other walls taken up by the tub (small area to paint above thetub) and the mirror above the sink (maybe he will have a 4x8 area by the toilet. It will probably only need 1-2 coats, as the color now is off white and should cover easily. The other bathroom is a bit larger, maybe 8x10, but again, really only has one full wall to paint, as the others are broken up with the mirror over the sink and the stall shower. This one will need 2 coats, as it's painted a light blue, I am guessing. We are providing the paint and materials, he is just doing the painting. I have NO idea how much to pay him. He's a great kid, and I don't want to underpay him. Thoughts, hive? Nan

I would absolutely report this to the doctors. And NEVER leave her alone with them again! I never do. No. matter.what. I think your dd did remarkably well, to be honest. As for speaking about dd like she wasn't there, that, too, needs to be addressed. it should not be done. Maybe there needs to be another visit just between you and the doc, but to do this in front of an anxious child???Horrible. I agree! My ds, 11, with autism is very high functioning. He stopped handflapping on his own, but now has other "stims" Actually, to throw a wrinkle in the definition of "stimming", our psychiatrist says what he does is not even really stimming, it's more of a focusing behavior. It's hard to explain what he does, but he puts his hands out in front of him and drops little items like rice, or sand, or rubber bands through his fingers. But as he's dong it, he's VERY focused on *something* (what ever the obsession de jour is! LOL) and he asks tons of questions about that obsession. I asked him what it's like and he says it's like watching a movie of his obsession (like tornadoes, or firetrucks, or whatever). I find this so fascinating. Shrink says it's not really a soothing behavior, but a focusing behavior and she differentiates it from "stimming". But, I would never stop him from doing it. And when he was smaller he did plenty of stimming and continued to develop and thrive. We all "stim",and as long as it doesn't get in the way of ds's daily life, it's ok with us. I guess it doesn't even look that weird to his nt friends because he does it in front of them and they don't even pay attention to it. Tons of "stims" are socially acceptable. Nan

Thanks so much for the info and feedback! Now I'm torn! I bought NOEO Biology Level II, but I love the looks of the WP animal study for 3-6 graders. Plus, and this is a HUGE plus, today my ds came home from a camp field trip to a wildlife park TOTALLY brimming with excitement about all the animals! Now, this is a kid who "hates" school. Actually, "hates" is probably too strong. He just shows no interest in learning. So, I feel like her's my chance! Animals are something he would love to study. I just asked him if he'd like to study animals in science next year and he got VERY excited. This is a first for him. so, I guess I either sell, or fit in the relevant parts of NOEO and buy WP Science. Just when I had next year's science ready to roll...:lol: I do have another question. Is everything notebooking? Or are there other activities as well. Work sheets? Experiments? Hand on stuff? TIA! Nan

I just am not getting a handle on what this curriculum includes. I was interested in the Animal Unit for hmmm, I think it was 3-6 graders. Exactly what does the manual include? Is it broken down into days with assignments for each day? Is it broken down into weeks? also, what are some typical Winter Promise activities/assignments included in this unit, or any unit, really. Has anybody tried the Chess unit? Nan

Does anybody know of a good program that teaches children (6th grade, but it can be on the youngish side for ds) the instruments of the orchestra, some classical composers, etc? Nothing heavy duty right now...just fun. Thanks! nan
