Need memorizing/practice ideas
Melissa in St Louis replied to amyable's topic in General Education Discussion Board
There is also a nifty binder system set up in a similar way. I can't remember how to spell it to search and link..... -
Ok, my 7 year old pretty much taught himself to read when he was 3 years old, so this is kind of my first time"worrying" about this. :tongue_smilie:(By the way, it is not as big a blessing as you may think having a child that does that at age 3....just a little humble disclaimer, there, and very true!) My DD4 is "ready" to read. Asking to read. Complaining she can't read. We've done a bit of 100 Easy Lessons, but she's not a fan. (I'm not a fan, either, but oh well.) She can sound out small words, but I really want to do something "systematic" so we don't have gaps....she enjoys workbooks and completed "Get Ready for the Code." She learned nothing from it. Would she do well with Explode the Code 1? I'm also thinking of: OPGTTR, CLE Learning to Read (my son uses CLE math, reading, LA, and DD4 probably will also), or any other suggestions you may have. :bigear: Any great successes or failures with any of the above? I know each child will have it "click" in a different way, I'm just looking for a starting point, I suppose. Thanks!

Glad you're ok. :001_smile: Waiting IS horrible! I definately agree. Please don't hesitate to PM me or something if you do need anything. I was an Illinois girl until I got married (and I still refuse to eat provel on my pizza:D). Hang in there! -

I just re-read your OP because I was wondering how you are doing and I saw that you are laid up in bed! How did I miss that the first read-through?! Seriously, do you need anything? Stuff from the store? A cup of coffee? When mama's out of commission, the whole world stops, I know. :) -
Unbelievable! (A MIL rant)

Eek. :grouphug: You are obviously a wise, cool/calm/collected kind of woman. My hat is off to you! :001_smile: -
Very personal lingerie question
Melissa in St Louis replied to HSMom2One's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I go to a place like this, also. FWIW, I have gone there for many, many years and I have purchased bras that were $75 and some that were $20. Depended on the style, manufacturer, etc. The ladies were experienced, helpful, and understanding. It doesn't have to be expensive if you let them know that is a factor. Definately worth the trip! :D -
My ds has mono....
Melissa in St Louis replied to jak of in's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I had mono when I was that age, and my son just had it last month (7yrs old!). Fluids, sleep, and more fluids and sleep were the only cure. I did make sure my son was eating as healthily as he could and I made sure he was taking good vitamins. Other than that, not much you can do. I think the older you are, the harder it hits you. He's going to have to find a way to really take it easy when he gets back. :grouphug: -

Which writing program do I want?
Melissa in St Louis replied to Melissa in St Louis's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Thanks so much, everyone! :) Should we continue to do history narrations even if we are doing WWE? (That is easy for us to get done, and we enoy it.) -
Preparing to Start WTM curriculum this fall
Melissa in St Louis replied to Amy713's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Hi, Amy! Welcome! If you have not yet read The Well Trained Mind, by Susan Wise Bauer, that would be an excellent place to start. Read it, let your brain digest it, and then come back again in a month and re-read it. :D You've come to the best place for questions, answers, and support! :D -
Questions on growing a puppy family
Melissa in St Louis replied to plain jane's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Aw, I love dobermans! :001_smile: I don't have any answers to questions, but I do know that our neighbors have several dogs and the two that play together the most are the same breed. Could be that they are just best friends, I don't know. ;) -

Hi, Shelly! :) We've not met, but I'm here in StL also and I'm happy to help you pack or clean or pray or whatever you need. It is so hard to be calm in the midst of a storm, but I know He is faithful!!! -

Which writing program do I want?

I'm looking for something that's: *for a 2nd grade boy *not grammar, etc...we use CLE LA *fairly easy to implement *good preparation for IEW in later years *rigorous, but not tear-causing *ideally the writing would reinforce our history studies, but that would be a bonus I've been trying to do narration/dictation ala WWE using my own sentences about our history studies, but it's not getting done. I looked into using the WWE workbooks, but I keep hearing that they get very hard very quickly. I'm not opposed to something being "hard," but I don't want it to become a battle. I've looked at Evan-Moor Daily 6-Trait Writing, but I never hear anyone mention that, and it may be too simplistic. The end goal is an articulate communicator using written and spoken language. :tongue_smilie: HELP!

Christmas Miracles?
Melissa in St Louis replied to Melissa in St Louis's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Know what's hysterical? The whole time DH keeps telling me "stop stressing!" What a funny, funny man. :001_wub: -
Anyone else have a Christmas miracle? Here's mine: Even though I changed my debit card info and shipping info on Amazon, they didn't "take." So, since the old debit card is expired, nothing went through. Since the new email address didn't "take" either, I never got confirmation. When I checked a few days later (like 7 days before Christmas), nothing was purchased! Nothing was shipping! So, I redid everything and now had to expidite shipping and all that stuff. :glare: Ok, so everything was scheduled to be delivered on the 24th. :scared: When it wasn't here at 2pm on the 24th (30 minutes before we were supposed to be at MIL's!), I started checking tracking numbers and all that jazz...turns out, the address change STILL didn't work, and everything had been delivered 2 days prior to my OLD house. :scared: Hopped in the car with wet hair and kids in jammies and prayed and prayed that someone would be at the old house AND have the gifts! Oh my goodness. The house looked empty when we pulled up, but a gentleman answered the door and said he was hanging out there today purposely in case I stopped by to get the packages!!!!! :D Praise the Lord! Sometimes I can't believe the way His blessings save my behind!
