  2. Simple short lessons. Affordable. Mastery. The teacher's manual is very easy to follow. We love it.:)
  3. Yes, you will have fun! Don't forget to check out Ripley's Aquarium and the little old fashioned candy making store along the businesses there. There are some beautiful waterfalls at the area state parks also. We rented a cottage at Carr's Cottage. Our patio was next to a beautiful creek and we awakened to the sound of the waters each day. Everything was walking distance. We saved a ton by cooking in our kitchen.
  4. There are some on the yahoo group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Elem_Apologia_Science/
  5. Thanks for visiting my blog, Sophia!:) Let me know how the recipes come out.
  6. Thanks! We usually have activities, play, and some things from Letter of The Week in our days but last week was play time since we really didn't have school. We were slackers so I thought that I would post about it in a slightly humorous way. LOL! I see that you are a twin mommy too! My twins are 10. : )
  7. I know many of us link our weekly reports here but I am also having Tot School with my toddler. I thought it would be a neat idea to post a weekly Tot School report and see if others who are homeschooling Tots would like to join in. I'm not the host but there's a link to the host blog on my post if you would like to join in. We report every Sunday. We had an interesting week. You can check it out on my blog. (link in siggy):)
  8. Thanks everyone! Dh had been set on Spanish during this past year but after telling him about some of the great Latin programs and hearing about the benefits of learning Latin, the boys won!:hurray:They have been wanting to learn Latin so badly so I'm really glad the principal has given his ok. I have been reviewing the sites along with the comparison chart and Lively Latin looks great! I love how it incorporates Art studies and a little bit of History. Thanks so much!
  9. I meant throwing together your our curriculum for your homeschool. Now, that could be in the form of tweaking what you have. Although, some have actually written their own. I just basically wanted to know the PROCESS of getting ideas together so that I would have a clue as where to begin if I wanted to do this also. Tweaking, that is! But I have enjoyed reading about how others have written their own curriculum. Awesome! Sorry, if I confused you.
  10. Do you have any links to the curriculum that you had written? I would love to see them.
  11. I love the Narnia books but my oldest twin lost interest with PC after he discovered some bad language. Bummer! But we are going to see the movie tomorrow. Hope it's even better!
  12. I have posted a Blogger Blogging Basics post with links to some sites that have some really neat templates. Hope it helps someone. :)
  13. Katie in Arabia, Wow! An Islamic History curriculum sounds great! And Elemental Science looks really great! I agree. One of the reasons that I am interested in designing my own curriculum is because I can't find anything that meets every criteria that I would like to see in a curriculum. Thanks so much for your thoughts and suggestions. I am definitely taking notes here. This is something that I really want to explore. Oh, Kimber! I didn't know you had written a Spanish curriculum. I'm going to check it out!
  14. Yes, :iagree:. My oldest does some notebooking with history with pages from History Scribe for Highschoolers. I don't think you can outgrow it.:)
  15. We have tried both and my children work well with mastery. Like the pp stated, it really depends on your child's learning style. If she enjoys have new information thrown into the mix while reviewing the old, she may love the spiral method. If it appears that she has mastered certain concepts then I would skip the extra practice and move on. If she continues to get bored, you could give spiral a try. But I would skip those mastered concepts and just move onto new topics in order to save my dollars. Just MO.
  16. and what subjects do you write? I know that Jessica (Trivium Academy) and Elemental Science are writers. Has anyone else given it a shot? I'm curious about trying this perhaps later on down the road. Could you share your process?
  17. I have a great chicken salad recipe on my blog under recipes on my sidebar but it has mayo.:D I think it'll hold better if you make it the day or night before. I'm weary of eating food that is prepared too far in advance when they are made with mayo or refrigerated items. I've had food poisoning as a child (store bought cole slaw) and I've been picky like that since that experience. That's just MO.
