  1. Another alternative is duffel bags. Fairly cheap, sturdy, and easily collapsible when you return.
  2. Try TJ Maxx & Homegoods too. And maybe Costco.
  3. I heard recently that everything except grocery has a maximum markup of 14%. So technically everything is a pretty great deal there IF what they’re selling is the quality you want. Costco is the only place available nationwide that’s never given me food poisoning, especially with their salad greens. I haven’t gotten salad greens from Sam’s Club since the pandemic started and not ended up with food poisoning, but Costco is safe. We get most of our groceries there.
  4. It might take up to three weeks for that stuff to get delivered. Even when it isn’t scheduled that way, weather delays and accidents that change the schedule happen. And when we hired movers ourselves, the corporate moving contracts took precedence because they had contracted dates. So when our stuff got delayed for a 2-day weather incident, it was actually delayed by weeks because of the contracts. Stuff that’s sentimental, hazardous, or valuable they should move themselves. Unless they’re minimalists, that might be enough for a small rental truck. It usually is for us. That would include: -Jewelry -Computers -Valuable electronics (not TV’s, but things like stereo equipment) -Guns or any other weapons -Expensive specialty gear (kitchen knives, sporting gear) -Valuable art -China & crystal -Personal files that could be used for identity theft (especially tax and health records) -Paint -Garage chemicals - All Cleaning products that couldn’t be eaten by a toddler, including essential oils - Anything they want to move ahead or leave behind, like cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, and a vacuum cleaner to use before they move in or after the movers leave -A kitchen box with necessities like a coffee maker, a couple insulated mugs, a small set of dishes and cutlery or disposable versions of the same, and I often bring one large pot and a strainer to make pasta, and one large ceramic skillet and a large spoon & spatula to make simple foods like scrambled eggs or proteins or sauces. Because sooner or later takeout gets gross. -Personal luggage with a few weeks of clothing and hygiene items -And because this might be read by someone who isn’t older, we have personal boxes for each of our kids with toys, electronics, books, art supplies, and smaller/lighter musical instruments.
  5. Do you live in an area with hurricanes, wind storms, or ice storms that will occasionally knock out the power for days or weeks? That’s the reason I’ve heard most frequently for choosing gas over electric.

I think there’s no moral problem with trying to sit with an attitude of grace towards her and simultaneously not trusting her when she’s proven repeatedly she can’t be trusted.
  7. I never worked in that area of nursing so I’m sorry to say I don’t know. But I know it happened to my aunt at least twice. I don’t know how far apart the imaging was though- no clue if it was hours or weeks. I would call but someone else in the family just got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer so I don’t think it’s a great time to call & ask a lot of questions.

Not me, but my older half brother’s mom hit on my dad repeatedly - in front of my mom, later my stepmom, and then in front of me. I think she was married to her second husband every time. Despite her rumored repeated affairs, her second husband never divorced her. I also had completely strange women when I was growing up and even into my 20’s ask if my dad was my dad, and how his marriage to my stepmom was going. It was creepy. I guess some women really like cops. As far as I can tell my dad was really only interested in women who were initially not interested in him.
  9. My aunt (the only one on that side who’s never had breast cancer) has had to go in for imaging like that every six months. She has a history of dense, painful breasts. Every time they’ve done a biopsy it was just a cyst. Cysts can come & go pretty rapidly I guess. She stopped complaining about cysts after menopause but given family history still gets frequent imaging. You always have the option to delay and go against medical advice. But if you do that and they eventually find something, will you be able to shrug it off? Or will you always regret not getting imaging sooner?
  10. Take it with you or throw it out. It doesn’t matter.
  11. Mmm, the bread is fluffy instead of flat, so closer to a sandwich. Are gyros tacos?

    Jokes & memes

This isn’t a meme, it’s a couple TikTok videos from a late GenX or Elder Millennial having her daughter rate teen stars from late 90’s & early 2000’s. I just thought it was funny. oh, linking the scarymommy article so you can watch embedded videos instead of going to site. I still haven’t figured out how to embed tiktok. https://www.scarymommy.com/parenting/gen-x-mom-asked-her-gen-z-daughter-to-rate-90s-teen-heartthrobs-tiktok?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=owned&utm_campaign=scarymommyfeed
  13. Trust me, cardiac care unit nurses are used to grumpy old men. I think I’d ask for anxiety meds for him. He clearly got embarrassed and now no longer wants to try. Maybe a dose or two of anxiety meds will lower that inhibition and enable him to sleep better when alarms are going off all night. I’m sorry for your loss with the other family member.
  14. I will never understand trying to hide information from kids who can read and have unsupervised internet access.
  15. Take a picture and send it in, but after that it won’t hurt to pull it off. I bet at some point when it got caught on something the blood supply was damaged. Just watch it carefully afterwards. If it takes longer than 10 days to heal, go to a dermatologist and get it removed. Something similar was the start of melanoma in a relative.
