  1. Here's to hoping my son finally pushes the games away for a bit. His obsession is the computer video games.
  2. I still do not let my son use the calculator. He still has trouble with his basic facts. He actually does multiplication better than addition if you can believe that. I am waiting till Pre-Algebra before letting him use one. I think he needs the foundation like everyone has previously stated. That being said it takes him 2 hrs to do his Math assignment and 10-15mins to do 100 basic addition and subtraction facts.
  3. We don't start back till after Labor Day. We are in Summer School mode. Mostly Math.
  4. I will look up artistic pursuits and spelling power. My son hates coloring so I hope it will not be too painful.
  5. While this is my first year I tend to do better with schedules. If I don't have order I can not function. My son also does better when he knows what is expected of him.
  6. For a 5th grader and also good spelling book too.

  10. I am waiting for my dive cd for Saxon 5/4 and Organic baby food.
  11. Penny, School is just the wrong situation for your daughter that is even more distractions. Have you had her tested for ADD? My son acts just like that when he was not medicated. He has a moderate case. He still has trouble getting focused so I pretty much have to leave the room when I give him the lesson because he uses me as a distraction too especially if he does not want to do the work. Take her for an evaluation to look into behavior therapy if you do not want the med route if that is indeed the case. We tried it for 4yrs but we eventually had to resort to the meds with the therapy.
  12. We plan on starting at 9am. I am well rested and so is my son. If 8 works for your family go for it!!!
  13. With my 3rd child my children were there with us. They stepped out of the room when the baby was born but they were there for the labor. It is no big deal to me.
  14. Glad things are working out with you. We have the same issues here in my house with how hubby reacts to ds behavior. We are going to family therapy tomorrow to see what we all can do as a family about it. This past Sunday, My daughter was rude and disruptive in church and I had to take her out several times she is 5. I think she may be diagnosed with adhd when she is older because of some of her similar behavior problems. Her problems are a little bit more severe I am afraid than ds. I am working on being more patient with her. I try to remember parenting is a learning process and we all tend to make mistakes or lapses in judgement. I also think men take it hard when it is a son because they want them to be just like them rather than realize they are individuals.
  15. I have 200 college hours. I did get my nursing diploma though.
  16. I could not finish the book either it was too silly. I think that is one of the few classics I could not finish.
