  1. :iagree: with Mama Anna on "The Chronicles of Narnia". We purchased the set and the entire family has enjoyed them. Well worth searching out. We bought our set during Waldenbook's teacher appreciation days and saved a bundle!
  2. Very cool site! My dc sat totally speechless while watching the anaconda video. Thank you for sharing.
  3. This is great, and the timing is perfect! Thanks for sharing.
  4. I'm just the opposite. dh worked away from home for so many years of our marriage that it really throws a kink in my routine when he is home.
  5. OK, I obviously missed something. Aaron is Jack's nephew? I wondered how Kate ended up with Aaron. At least we have one question answered. Didn't even think to look for the scar.Your good!
  6. After everyone is in bed and the house is quiet, usually about 2 hours.
  7. Only have room for a small kitchen garden - onions herbs tomatoes (lots) zuccini crookneck but, have a small orchard with apple, pear, and peach trees.
  8. We are using SOTW and I am always amazed at how much dd recalls months later. History has become her favorite subject. I bought ABEKA and then sold it, dd said it "talks down to her". I have seen History for Little Pilgrims and it just didn't do anything for either of us.
  9. I like Battlemaiden's idea of working backwards. I hadn't though of it before, but it makes a lot of sense. I have nightmares about dd getting into highschool and suddenly I realize we left out something very important:iagree: But as for scheduling right now, I have a general plan for the year, pick my curriculum, and print up a weekly schedule every week. Life is to unpredicable for us to schedule further ahead. My dd loves having her "schedule" so she can work ahead if things are really starting to click (or I'm otherwise occupied:)). She slides her schedule into the front of her binder and can check off her work as she completes it. I'm hoping this will give her a sense of responsibility for her work.
  10. I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers:angelsad2:
  11. I had to vote "other" since this is my first year of hs and we are still finding what works for us. While I don't have a budget I also don't just go out and buy for the sake of buying, but have researched what is out there and buy when the need arises. Fortunately, this board has been a wonderful source of information and guidance.
  12. This is a really tough issue. There are so many sides to consider, but I feel the safety of the children must be the first concern.
  13. What a wonderful site! Thank you for sharing:001_smile:
  14. Hand me my passport and I'm out of here! We have lived in states across the U.S., taken multiple cruises, and traveled to Europe. What an education!
  15. He is absolutley beautiful and I love his name! Congratulations and best wishes to both of you:)
  16. I know exactly how you feel! I have always loved books and dd is the same. I have fantasies about owning a book store. When I go to the library I go straight to the "for sale" section. Sorry, all I can offer is understanding.
  17. I have a page which is divided into columns for days of the week and subjects, with small blocks to check off when finished. This is done in Excel so all I have to do is fill in the blanks, print off, and put in the front of dd's binder. This has worked great for both of us, allowing dd to work ahead on subjects which are "clicking" for her. I do require the daily work done, but this gives dd a balance of control and responsibility in completing assignments.
  18. Just took a quick look and downloaded. this looks great. Thanks for sharing:)
  19. It seems that everyone has a very definate opinion on this issue. Thank all of you for your take on this. It is always good to get a different perspective. Although I truley believe that this camp would help "round out" dd's education with art, sports, Bible and group activities I probably won't count it since we don't need the days.
  20. We don't need the days, just wondering if anyone counts summer camp as school time? It is a one week, overnight Christian camp with a very oganized daily schedule (Bible study, sports, art activities, etc.)
  21. definately over the top, although everyone else is just happy to have it hanging around.
  22. This is our first year using SOTW and we love it! Our dc keep bring up things they have learned this year "Did you know?" or "Remember when we learned about?"
