  1. Oh yeah, this year our new kittens will have stockings thanks to my dd13!
  2. Our kids get stockings here. Before bed they take them down from the mantle and place them on their beds. Fillers. : apple, orange, nuts, and a few small presents. Now when Christmas is celebrated at my parents' house the adults get stockings too because my mom does the stockings and. We are still her kids!
  3. Yes, Christmas morning service at 9:30. Shortened to an hour with carols and short lessons. Opening presents after.
  4. Not since I discovered Martha Stewart's recipe! All fresh ingredients and just divine! It's my favorite Thanksgiving side dish. Here's the link: Martha Stewart's Green Bean Casserole
  5. Just my engagement/wedding ring (on my left hand), but on special occasions I add a beautiful diamond ring (on my right) I inherited from my grandmother.
  6. My 6 year old enjoys them in spurts. They are fun, but not as engaging to him as building with blocks or wooden trains or Legos.
  7. What's even more impressive is that it's the same kid doing both parts! We've watched his other videos and after about 20 times we realized he filmed himself doing both parts then put them together. Very talented.
  8. Another vote for Clark's. And they have some really cute styles. Penney's has some great sales on them. I bought some yesterday that sell for $90 on zappos and with a coupon and sale I paid $55.
  9. My sister-in-law couldn't lose any weight until she found this book: The Metobolism Miracle She has had amazing success with this! I think she's lost 18 pounds over the past 5 months and these are pounds that she couldn't get rid of no matter how much she exercised or no matter what diet she tried. Here is the book description from Amazon: There is a reason that some people can eat all they want and seemingly never gain a pound, while others count every calorie, exercise, and can’t lose an ounce. Millions of people—an estimated 45 percent of dieters—have Metabolism B, a condition that causes the body to over-process carbohydrate foods into excess body fat. Registered dietitian Diane Kress’s scientifically based, easy-to-follow program has helped thousands of people with Metabolism B lose weight and keep it off As someone who struggled with Metabolism B for years, Kress knows firsthand the frustration of diets that don’t work. The solution? A simple, three-step, carb-controlling program that stabilizes blood glucose levels and reprograms the metabolism to melt away fat. The Metabolism Miracle starts working on Day 1.
  10. Beautiful. Just beautiful. Reminds me of my grandmother who passed away this time last year.
  11. Thanks. I feel much more at home here now that I've introduced myself.
  12. North Pole Pumpkin Cookies a.k.a. Pumpkin/Chocolate Chip Cookies! I found this recipe about 20 years ago in my college newspaper. It had won a contest. These are the best! 1/2 cup raw brown sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 cup butter 1 cup canned pumpkin 1 tsp. vanilla 1 egg 2 cups flour 1 tsp. EACH of baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice 1/4 tsp. salt 1 cup chocolate chips (I use 2 cups) Preheat oven to 350. Mix raw sugar, brown sugar, and butter; set aside. Mix pumpkin, egg, and vanilla; set aside. Stir together flour, soda, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and pumpkin pie spice. Combine sugar, pumpkin and flour mixtures; blend well. Stir in chocolate chips. Grease cookie sheets with butter wrappers. Drop by teaspoonsful on sheet and bake 10-12 minutes.
  13. Thanks! I think we're going to be very busy shipping pencils! Not really sure what to expect once the 30 days are up, but I'm sure it will continue to be a fun adventure. My son has been asking me since he was very little if I could think of anything he could invent that could make my life easier. He's always trying to come up with an original idea. It helps that he loves making movies too so he could come up with a fun promotional video.
  14. We lived in OC before we moved to San Diego. We still go up there for occasional Disneyland trips!
  15. Thanks! I figured out how to put up my location, but how do I get a picture to show up by my name?
  16. Hi, I'm a LONG time lurker here and used to go to the old boards. I homeschool my 4 kiddos in San Diego. I have an 8th grader, 6th grader (Nathan-the-entrepreneur from an earlier post), 4th grader, and 1st grader. I love reading the threads, but mostly feel like I don't have anything to contribute. I'll try though! The only thing that might get me shunned here is that we LOVE Everyday Math. My husband and I are both math majors and we have been using Everyday Math since my oldest was in kindergarten. I can see why it would be difficult to use in schools, but at home we think it's great! My kids enjoy theatre (they perform in shows at Balboa Park), Legos, singing, games, and our 2 new kitties. I'll try to get a picture up as well as the bio I see at the bottom of other's posts. See you around!
  17. Matt and Nate are friends of ours. When Nathan approached them with his idea we had no idea what would happen. I'm so glad they knew about kickstarter.com. We are so thankful for their willingness to help Nathan. Nathan did his part of the video all on his own, but Nate and Matt set up the page on the web site. If you search around the site you can find some really neat projects. There are some games I'm thinking of backing because they'll send you one once they get them manufactured.
  18. I apologize in advance for this being my first post! I promise to post more in the future to prove I'm real. :) I've actually been a lurker since the old boards where I did post a few times. (I got some fabulous veggie recipes when everyone helped to get me out of my canned veggie rut!) My 11 year old is always trying to start up a new business, but mostly he has always wanted to invent something. He's had a lot of ideas, but finally found one that's very doable and found some friends willing to help him. This website, kickstarter, lets people create a video describing their ideas and allows others to help them get their initial funding. Rewards are offered for various funding amounts. Click here to watch my son's video. The amount of funding he has received has already passed our expectations many times! Hopefully this can inspire your young entrepreneurs. Edited to add: Just want to make sure you know I'm not asking for money! Really just wanted to inspire other kids out there who have great ideas. It's a fun video.
