Mara, Daughter of the Nile
E_Edgerton replied to SLH in ND's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I read this one aloud to the children I work with. I didn't find anything wrong with it. Occasionally, I would notice that the oldest child 12 (girl) noticed the romance a little more than the younger child 10 (boy) he liked the adventure and suspense! I liked this one! -

What do you smell like?
E_Edgerton replied to OnTheBrink's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I tend to wear vanilla or lemon scents. But, I have recently been having a great time on http://www.demeterfragrance.com I am thinking of buying several of my favorite smells and wearing them either layered or as individual scents! Be warned....you will spend way too much time at this site!:D -
Sofa cushion covers
E_Edgerton replied to Shawna in Texas's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Do you have a local upholstery store? We have a few local ones...I know they are willing to bargain....unless you are totally committed to doing this yourself. I think if you supplied the material and measurements you could get a good price...not to mention it would spare you all the cursing! Sewing brings out the worst in me!:) -
I need a few ideas for very low cost birthday...

I think when it comes to stickers, candy, coloring books, crayons, etc....you can't go wrong! Kids love this stuff and I can see why!:) -
Anything by Roald Dahl, Tolkien, CS Lewis. Homer Price is hysterical. What about a book of collected poetry, The Canterbury Tales, Bible stories, Grimm Fairy Tales? My grandmother read the Grimm tales to me...I am forever grateful to have Grimm over Disney! :)

Natural remedies for high cholesterol?
E_Edgerton replied to melissel's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My father has allergic reactions to all cholesterol meds. He has to rely solely on diet and exercise...which is enough...just continue to drop weight and keep a healthy diet. Don't underestimate oatmeal!:) -

Trying to find jeans that fit
E_Edgerton replied to Dawn in Ohio's topic in General Education Discussion Board
You may want to try the Sweetheart fit from Old Navy. I am curvy and find that they hit just at or slightly below my bellybutton, they accommodate my hips but fit my waist, and they come in short/average/and thankfully long. I feel like they are some of the best I have found...especially at the price of $29.50-$34.50. http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=5468&vid=1&pid=675662&scid=675662012 -

My Dh and I share an itunes account, but I have a Classic for my music only and he has a Touch for games and only some music. We keep one account by keeping everything manual (only checked items will sync to the attached pod). This has worked really well. My music stays on mine and his games stay on his only! Just sync manually. :)

What are you currently reading?
E_Edgerton replied to gandpsmommy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I am reading Trouble by Kate Christensen (she is the author of The Great Man, a fantastic book!), A High Wind in Jamaica by Richard Hughes, and some works by John Muir (Ken Burns National Parks series has inspired me) :) -
I think that anytime you are going against the grain you will have times like this, feelings like this...etc. The proof is in the pudding so to speak...if you are happy, your children are doing well/closing gaps in their education, and this is what works for your family then keep up the good work! Just keep on doing what you know is best for your family. People who don't understand this process probably won't change their minds, just as you will never understand such narrow thoughts. :grouphug:

Homemade Christmas gift ideas?
E_Edgerton replied to scubamama's topic in General Education Discussion Board
A couple of years ago, a friend and I got together and over a bottle of wine made some fantastic homemade truffles. We did several different flavors (all with the same basic base recipe, just different variations.) We also made a couple of varieties of biscotti. It was so much fun, it was inexpensive and it was a huge hit. The same friend and I also pulled resources to make a recipe collection...just made copies of our favorites and put them in inexpensive binders. They too were a success. People love food!:D -
Wow, thanks for posting this...:)

Magazine Readership ??
E_Edgerton replied to elizabeth's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I subscribe to Dwell, The Week, and Food Network Magazine. I usually buy one fashion magazine a month for fun. I always read Mother Earth News online. I like New York Magazine, but I only seem to read that one at the library. I used to subscribe to The Atlantic Monthly, The Wilson Quarterly, GQ, and W magazine. I enjoyed them all but decided against renewing them for one reason or another...maybe out of pity for my mail delivery person! hehe -

I also discover loads of great music on http://www.npr.org. Enjoy your new pod...I love mine!:) -
The cutest thing I would not correct was said by a little girl I used to babysit. She was only 2 and whenever she wanted to do something by herself she would say, "Let me do it by my lone." I just loved it coming out of that cute little person! What a nice thread, I needed to remember that piece of cuteness!:)

retired racing greyhounds
E_Edgerton replied to EthiopianFood's topic in General Education Discussion Board
There is a track in our vicinity and greyhound adoption is big here. They are beautiful dogs...so striking in person. But so much bigger when you are actually standing next to one! They seem quiet, gentle, but do require daily walks and I would imagine some space both outdoor and indoor. I would look into your local program and ask all the questions you may have. You could also research the breed at http://www.akc.org or go to your library. There are several in my neighborhood that I see while walking...I like that they seem really calm, laid back dogs! Good luck. :)
