Okay, um, i'm sorry England, but......
cin replied to Halcyon's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Good point. I forgot about Tolkien being from Britain, raised, anyway. And yeah, a few kilts would've been nice. :D:D -

But Mr. Bean is there!!!! How can it be boring with Mr. Bean!!!!!! -
My first thoughts were the same as several posted here. Aspie are not nearly as 'recognized' as Autistism. Therefore, I think there would be more help available. Also, with the recent changes in the DSM whatever, it's probably a good thing that her diagnosis has been changed. Or that those changes led to the change in her dignosis. If there's not been any changes in her behavior, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Poll: What Should I Order at Chinese?
cin replied to Jean in Newcastle's topic in General Education Discussion Board
sesame chicken is my favorite. And don't forget the eggrolls!! -
What exactly is "processed" food?
cin replied to Jean in Newcastle's topic in General Education Discussion Board
This hit us on Tuesday. We ended up at McDonald's. :leaving: We were both starving after our veggie lunch. I had a headache, and dd8 was almost in tears. That plus just learning. A bowl of lettuce will not last me more than an hour. Now, add beans or some grilled organic chicken, and that'll do me much longer. -
I have been on OC for probably close to 10 years. About 7 years ago I started taking it without a break. It may, in the end, knock 5 years off my life, but the quality is SO. MUCH. BETTER. No painful periods, no arguing with the Dr. over what is causing the pain:glare: and as an added bonus, no PMS  I was never able to have children. They don't know for sure why, but I have endometriosis. 1+1=2, in my book anyway. I had 2 surgeries over a 3 or 4 year period. Then started on the OC. Unfortunately, I also had some other meds back then, hormonal, to work on the endometriosis, and it was unpleasant. I grew (and still have) too much facial hair.

Thinking again about buying from Amazon
cin replied to Joyful's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Assuming your husband in one of the heroes in our Armed Forces. If so, he and his co-workers were the first thing that entered my mind when I read this thread. How hot is it over there, and how much equipment do they carry? Oh, and how often do they get to take a really good shower?!?!? If he is, thank him for me, and thanks to you and your family. The families serve as much as the soldiers do. -
In addition to all the other great advice, I'd pass the inlaws to your husband. And I've always thought it would be rather clever to turn the tables on the parents. Gee mom, you really must not have any confidence in your parenting skills if you think you raised me to be a weak, go with the flow, idiot who can't teach a child to count to 10. Well mom, I'm learning from your mistakes :D Really mom? I thought you'd be proud of us for taking this step to raise our kids the we think is really best, and not just blindly following what the government thinks is best.

Why is marriage important in America today?
cin replied to SKL's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I think it is a societal thing. But for me, it is important because it is symbol of a person's commitment to the relationship. If a person is not married, it's a heck of a lot easier to walk away than it is with the contract. I would not build a life with someone who would not take the step of marriage. jmho. -
First off, the boys are minors. That shouldn't matter in some crimes, such as this, but legally they are protected. There was a 5 yr old molested in a Mc Donald's play area by a 12 yr old boy. He was shackled in court, but we never saw his face. Secondly, I thought both parties had to agree to a plea deal? I guess I'm wrong on that one. But I can't believe that she could be held to something that she didn't agree too? Thirdly, If I were her, I'd probably do the same thing :) They ruined her life, at least right now. (Hopefully, she can go away to college, where nobody knows her and sort of start over). She should have the right to ruin hers. This plea, to me, is like BTK getting the death penalty and all the rights under no cruel and unusual punishment. Really? Why should he get to go to sleep into eternity? And make sure the needle is sterile? puhleeez. off the mini soapbox.

How many times a do you check your cell phone?
cin replied to helena's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I check mine way too much. :D I have scrabble games on it and if I get bored with whatever is going on, I'll check them. And if I'm away from the girls, I check it periodically for missed calls/texts. I swear sometimes it'll show that I have a missed call, and it's been sitting next to me the whole time. So I do check for that if we are away from the kids. how did our parents leave us with babysitters with NO cell phones?!?!??! -
How can i cool down (mentally)?
cin replied to amo_mea_filiis.'s topic in General Education Discussion Board
Sounds like my daughter, dx anxiety and depression. She is currently on 10 mg prozac and 4 omega capsules/day. She is OFF all artificial colors. Each one of these was a step to get her 'better'. And each has worked well. Combined, we can live with in the same house with her. I kwow we will be upping her prozac soon, in the next year or so because of puberty and mood swings. She is also in counseling, but the counseling did no good until we started her on the medication. It was truly a case of not seeing the forest because of the trees, or something like that... :grouphug: On the up side, your friend heard, so at least somebody knows you're not crazy. Piper holds it together great until we get home. I don't think she's ever acted out in public. My friends all think I'm crazy. ALL kids throw tantrums. I hit my head when I get frustrated, (on the solid wood headboard?) everybody yells at some point when they get mad..... -
I know how to use them, but I can't explain it to my dd10. What is the difference?
-
While I agree, I am a mom who changes her mind often. My oldest has MAJOR meltdowns, and I never know what will trigger one. Sometimes I change my mind because it isn't a hill to die on. Just to note, she doesn't always have meltdowns over NO. Sometimes we have no idea what happened. And many times, if I say no, she's fine. It's not a form of manipulation.

So, you think it's hot where you live.....
cin replied to Tammi K's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I wish it were 'smokin hot' here, instead of upper 90s. :D -
So, it was 7 years and 2 days ago that she joined us. A chubby, Sumo Baby born in Dian Bi China. Her birth day is actually an estimate, based on the status of her umbilical cord. But it's pretty accurate, within a day or two as she was left on the steps of a government building. Just another baby girl, born in a land that values the male child more than the girl. Or maybe a second or third baby, born to family that has already reached the 'legal limit'. She was blessed. She was VERY well cared for in her orphanage. She knew snacks. When we opened a brown bag of food that was from a local delivery place, she knew the sound, and came flying across the floor to us, as fast as a Sumo Baby can, crawling on all fours.:D Her caregiver handed us our precious bundle of joy on the 15th of July. Exactly 3 years after we were handed our first bundle, in Vietnam. She cried so much the first 2 days. Looking back, we now know that was good. It sure didn't sound good, but it meant that she was attached to her caregiver, and was well developed, emotionally. And she still is! Zoie has brightened our lives in so many ways. Her laughter echos throughout our home. Along with the sound of her feet pitter pattering. Zoie, Zee, or Tiny Hiney (don't ever tell her I told you that nickname!) is sometimes, a light on a dark day, and we LOVE the JOY God has given us, through her!

My daughter 11 yo. wants to have a Toga Party for her birthday. She wants Latin on her cake. I started trying to wrack my brain to come up with 'great' ideas, and then I thought why should I try to re-invent the wheel? I'm sure that some of you moms of exceptional children have had birthday parties with a similar theme, so PLEASE, give me all your fabulous ideas?!!!!??!!

I have traces of blood (invisible to the naked eye) all the time in my urine. I had both tests that you are scheduled to have. They are not bad. They numb you before they do the scope. Turns out I had a couple of polyps right at the top of my urethra. And will always have microscopic blood. :glare: -
Those With Dementia Experience...
cin replied to Hunter's Moon's topic in General Education Discussion Board
You can get a release form. If your mom signs it, then the Dr can talk to you. Also, doctors with dementia patients tend to not be as strict with the HIPPA stuff. At least MILs doctors were. They flat out said it's just common sense. DH was an only child and MIL was a widow, so DH was the primary caregiver. -
