  1. I am so very sorry! I am praying for you and your family during this very difficult time.
  2. Praying for you and your family, and your medical team.
  3. Thanks! We are loving our Core E American History!
  4. I'm sorry to hear about your dd, Ellie! Praying for her and also that the doctors will be able to help her.
  5. I think I've looked at it before. I see they have the Bloomsbury in the outlet section. Bloomsbury is great for at-home reading, post-it notes, etc. By the way, I don't regularly shop from Levenger. :) Right after I posted about it, I thought oh no, I forgot about all their ridiculously-priced stuff! In about 15 years, I have splurged on about three of their things. I would love to get the Nantucket Lapreader, but I'm sure I could find something similar elsewhere for less. But I do love to drool over the catalogs.
  6. I just looked again and thought oh, I didn't mean the super-expensive ones! Wow! I'm sure those are great, but I love my Bloomsbury book tote. I think the staff bag and the go staff bag look great and those close, which is important if you are out in bad weather.
  7. Thank goodness for Land's End! Dd loves their simple dresses and wears them to church. She doesn't care much for ordering clothes because she wants to be sure they are comfortable and not too baggy. But we do order things that are the same as, or similar to, a brand/style she likes. Yes, I think this is probably the last time you will be able to order clothes without her input. :)
  8. I love bags! Have you looked at Levenger? They have some very well-organized bags that will last you a long time. :) Just an idea.
  9. I agree that gold wouldn't be my first choice, but I honestly was afraid you might say something like raspberry or lime green. :) Hope you enjoy your new minivan!
  10. My dd likes to work the problems in the workbook, then enter her answers into the computer. She really likes having both the book and the computer. She's doing TT6; this is her first time with Teaching Textbooks.
  11. Praying for you, Jean. That sounds incredibly difficult.
  12. Enjoyed reading your blog! Your dd's year and my dd's year are going to look very similar! We started Sonlight Core E a few weeks ago and are loving it! We had used SL before but not in the past couple of years. My dd adores reading, my reading to her, talking about books, etc. She is now certain that we should use SL through 12th grade. :) I'm not certain about that, but I'm pretty sure I want to use Core F, at least. She is in fifth grade this year. We also bought SL Science E and are in week one. It looks great too. She is using Teaching Textbooks 6 and loves it. I feel like we are finally finding (or coming back to) the things that really work for us! We also just started Mosdos Lit Coral and it seems like that will be a great fit too. I need to look over the SL Lang. Arts and see if I want to use any of it. I have other things I want to use, but I might pick out a few assignments for some variety. Here's to a great year in fifth grade!!
  13. I can't answer your questions, since we are just getting started with Coral. Do you have the books yet? They are wonderful!! I am SO glad I bought the teacher's manual (couldn't find the tm used, so I bought it from Rainbow Resource). I was just reading the background info for "Samuel's Choice." It's fascinating. I may let my dd read some of the tm (such as the background info) after reading the story. I think she would love it. I am so excited to use Mosdos Coral this year!
  14. I'm certain that you posted this to make us all turn green with envy.... :) Congrats on moving to such a lovely area!
  15. CalmingTea, I'm sorry that happened to you. I don't order very often from RR, but I did order Mosdos Lit and two geography items on Monday. It came today - two days later!! I was shocked. The Mosdos (Coral) looks awesome!!! I do love ordering from CBD and Amazon and Sonlight. I have had great results with those three companies.
  16. So sorry to hear about the accident! Praying for Faithmanor and her son.
  17. We recently started Sonlight Core E and it is amazing. We have had numerous great discussions. My dd is so, SO happy to be back with Sonlight! I have heard from various SL users that Cores D and E are two of the best cores SL has. I regret not using Core D. I have not officially used Ambleside, though I have gotten book ideas from it. I personally do not see why you could not read an Ambleside selection sometimes? Absolutely, you could never do both Ambleside as written and SL as written, at the same time! But if you just want to get some book ideas from AO, why not? I get ideas from all over the place (HOD, VP, etc.). But maybe I am misunderstanding your question. I think the advice to continue with your SL and read about CM is great advice. I don't think the AO method is far superior to SL. You must do what works for YOU and YOUR dc. I am currently reading about CM and have gotten some great ideas from my reading.
  18. Have you watched the sample videos? To me, eight is really young to sit and watch a lot of video teaching. I tried two BJU dlo subjects this past year and neither worked out for us. But overall the videos do seem to be well done. BJU textbooks seem to be considered excellent textbooks. I would suggest trying one or two video subjects first. Our problems with the dvds might not be problems for other students. The math 4 teacher did extensive, slow-paced review. My dd did NOT want to sit through the dvd lesson. She is now doing Teaching Textbooks 6 (she does her work in the workbook, then checks her answers with the cd) and that is working out so much better. I plan to add some drill work to TT. We also tried science 4. We did not care for the teacher (her style would be better for 1st-2nd graders) but we liked the book. We are starting McHenry's Elements soon and are really looking forward to it; it looks great! I personally cannot imagine using one publisher (like BJU or Abeka) for all subjects. It would drive both my dd and me over the edge. :) But that approach works well for some people. We will continue with the BJU English (books, no dvd) as it is comprehensive and well written. I plan to add more of the review sheets (from the teacher cd) this coming year. We have enjoyed BJU literature (way too many comprehension questions! I only used about 25% of their questions) but are trying Mosdos Coral this year. Best wishes for a great homeschool year! A friend's dd is very involved in dance and homeschooling has been a blessing for them.
  19. I am so sorry for your loss. I am praying for you. Hugs.
