  1. I think that's manageable. Starting 3 at once (my thought when I read the title) would be ridiculous at that age. But I say if she's comfortable with her other 2, adding flute should be fine. Especially because it's in a different family. I would worry about adding flute if one of her others was a wind instrument, because I would think you'd want to really develop a strong embouchure before trying an instrument that would ask something else of your mouth. But in her case, it sounds ok. I would watch her to make sure she's not overwhelming herself, but if she seems to keep up with it, then good for her!
  2. I've gone through the "sick kiddo, drunk mama" panic myself. Not worth it. DH doesn't drink, but he also can't handle vomit from anyone but himself... Ditto this for Ohio. Four seasons: Almost winter, winter, still winter, and construction. Brave woman!!!
  3. Sake & California rolls here for me. It's what's in the house... leftovers from dinner last night. DH made it. Ok, he bought the sushi & the wine. But he made a kick-@$$ shrimp stir fry & pot stickers to go with it!
  4. My favorite flavor of ice cream is... Yes. In all seriousness, though, a good butter pecan with a drizzle of caramel. Mmm. So, time to put the kids down & send DH to the grocery!
  5. My DD is 2, and I am dreading the inevitable difficulty of a mother-adolescent daughter relationship in the future. I'm :bigear:
  6. If my dog (or my kids...) destroys something, I feel like it's my responsibility to at least split the cost of repair or replacement. However, if I left something out where I knew someone's dog (or kids) might get it, I would feel responsible for the cost of repair or replacement myself. Especially if I had paid $400 for a single pair of glasses and neglected to buy a replacement plan of some sort. I kind of equate that with neglecting to buy car insurance. So I'm completely ambivalent on this one. I can absolutely see either side.
  7. :iagree: Grr is right. Is your library staffed by mainly high school students? Ours is, and often the volunteers get more done correctly that the paid students.
  8. Anyone have a great chicken salad recipe that I could easily multiply to serve about 100-125 people? I think I have everything on hand: chicken, grapes, mayo/miracle whip, walnuts, onions, celery... I think if I can't find a recipe, I'll just wing it. But that makes me a little nervous.
  9. :iagree: Not a good gig for me in any way, shape, or form. Ummm.... my list is short: Go camping on a random national park mountain after dark, and after having consumed an inordinate amount of alcohol. I remember calling my mom on the drive up the mountain, so someone would know where we were if we got lost. I remember trying to set up tents by cell phone light. I don't remember where that bruise came from. I don't remember falling asleep in that particular tent... :001_huh: And I remember the lecture from my fraternity advisor the next week. "You are at a Christian school. By your choice. There is no drinking. Not to mention that it violates our charter. And all of the rules aside, there's nothing worse than a sloppy drunk broad."
  10. Thanks for all of the responses. I always try to keep a balance when telling my kids that "We believe X" or "We don't celebrate Y" because I do want them to respect the rights of others to practice their religions, as we have the right to practice ours. My parents took a completely hands-off approach to any sort of religious teaching and left it up to my grandparents to expose me to church & such. I got in serious trouble in about the 3rd grade for telling another little girl that she was going to h*ll because she didn't believe in Jesus. I really would like to teach my kids to be more respectful of others than I was taught. That said.... I completely understand why she latched on to the idea-- it looked like a ton of fun!
  11. For the record, you just made me LOL... and then steal the apostrophe line from your siggy to use as a FB status.:lol::lol:
  12. No wonder I couldn't find it. I didn't even think of putting an 'i' at the end.
  13. Dads in my house can't always tell either. However, it's easy to know when DS is faking a bad dream. If he's fully awake before the "fear" starts, he's trying to get out of going back to bed. When he has the nigh terrors... it takes minutes (like, up to 20 or 30 sometimes) of him screaming & crying uncontrollably in his sleep before we're able to talk him awake.
  14. I admit it. We watch television. Not inordinate amounts... but after DS is asleep and I'm trying to clean the kitchen, I let DD watch Olivia or Ni Hao Kai Lan on Nick Jr. So this commercial just came on. (Or what passes for a commercial on Nick Jr.-- between the shows cartoonage.) It was a segment showing a little Indian girl (I know this because I've previously seen her searching frantically for a Sari so she could pretend to be an Indian princess) and her family celebrating something called Holy. Apparently it takes place in the spring, and involves lots of throwing paint at people? What is this holiday.... and should I be concerned at my kids being exposed to it? (I ask because we saw this last night, and at church tonight, DD(2) kept running up to people & telling them "Happy Holy! Happy Holy!") This is not behavior I want continued, so I redirected her and eventually had her saying Happy Holidays... (Wrong time of year, but at least not the wrong religion.) What says the Hive?
  15. While I understand about the church not prosecuting (my church would do everything in their power to keep such a matter within the church body), I would probably feel the same as you.
  16. My kids' dentist sees them for the first time on their 3rd birthday, and every 6 months after that.
  17. Overweight since I was about 7. When my parents divorced, and my mom kind of retreated into her lost childhood. It wasn't handled at all. We were allowed to eat what we wanted, and activity wasn't really encouraged. (Lots of TV time for us as kids.) If I had been my mom, I would like to think that I would have made a point of changing the food available to me. More fruits & veggies, less ice cream & Kraft Mac & Cheese. Also would be encouraging about physical activity. It sounds like you're on the right track with the physical activity... just watch snacks (don't forbid sweets or anything--she has plenty of time for her weight to even out)-- make sure she's getting enough healthy stuff that she doesn't want junk all the time. ETA: I wouldn't mention it to her at all at this point.
  18. It would be one of the only ways I could think of to prove copyright infringement of a map --and you do have to prove someone infringed-- it can be a tough battle. To prove that someone has infringed on your copyright, you have to be able to demonstrate conclusively that they had access to your content, that they used enough of your content that your original & their "infringement" are identifiable as virtually the same work. (At least in photography... I would think it even harder to prove in the case of maps.)
  19. Not a copyright lawyer, but I deal with copyright law a LOT as a photographer. This sounds perfectly within the realm of fine. After all, no one can own a copyright on the shape of Africa or the very existence of the Himalayan Mountains.
  20. DH uses injected meds, and he usually buys Anesthetic Wipes-- they had pulled all the wipes from the shelves in some huge recall when he went to buy some last week. I wondered why...
  21. The bold.... yeah, that. I long to be tv-free. We were when I was in high school, and I know I was missing nothing. But DH is television-centric. Ridiculously so.
