  1. A good 3-hole punch. Not one of the $20 ones, the $40 and up are worth the money. Trust me. I don't know if you have a Staples near you, but I paid less for the desk apprentice in the store than the online price. Not sure if it was just at my store that it was priced differently.
  2. The elem we can see from our front yard (on the next block) is a 9, as is the only high school in town (also down the street). The middle school (again, on our street) is a 10. We're in one of the fastest-growing DFW suburbs.
  3. Thank you for this thread. I needed a good reminder to schedule a gyno appt. I have them, but we have opted not to remove them for now. I want one more baby and so we will wait until I'm done having kids (my uterine walls are thin and irritable and removal could end my chances of another pregnancy). I did go on the pill for a couple of months last year to get things on track a little. The pain was just too much for a while. I have bad months and bearable months.
  4. Ditto. I was going to offer up my bunco brownies recipe.
  5. I give my kid my iPhone. Or laptop. Or get my girls to get him set up with netflix on the Wii and let the TV babysit for a bit. I know, I know. TV = bad, blah blah blah. The kid learned his ABCs off Leapfrog videos and can spell Thomas (as in Thomas the Train). Or I let him watch 4 hours of PBS -- Sesame Street taught him to count to 10. :D If he is truly clingy, I have the girls do work they don't need me for until their brother goes to preschool. He only goes from noon-2:40 so it isn't a long time, but it's enough to get science and history done.
  6. Good reaction! :D I'm never letting my daughters out of the house without me other then for them to go to dance class. The only boys in their classes are either the owners' son, or their friends' brothers. I'm good enough friends with their moms that I think we're safe.;)
  7. My girls were in 2nd & 3rd grades. That was when we finally had dental insurance on them. Couldn't afford it before then. My son was almost 4. My kids' dentist is actually a friend of mine. My son's first visit was conducted with him standing, me kneeling behind him to hold him still and the hygienist (and then dentist) kneeling in front of him to do the exam/cleaning.
  8. I'm a yarn addict who can only crochet a scarf (I makes lots and lots of scarves). Hmm...maybe it's time to learn knitting. 36 isn't too old to start, is it?
  9. Hilarious! Or you could just chug the wine down, then smile and say you had to finish it before your mama caught you drinking. :D
  10. No, it does not. It is there because scientists are trying to help detect diseases earlier (or prevent them - vaccines). I supposed your chiropractor is broke and the health food store you shop at makes no profit whatsoever?
  11. When my son weaned, he wouldn't drink cow milk. Our ped suggested giving him goat milk and then gradually mixing the two until he was switched to cow milk (goat milk is very very expensive). Worked great!
  12. There's a store in Lewisville, but I don't know if they sell new or only used. http://www.homeeducatorsresource.com/ I've only been there once but I got a lot of stuff.
  13. We listen to mostly Christian music or Radio Disney with the kids. That said, DH and I have taken our oldest (when she was in 4th) and a friend to see No Doubt and Paramore.
  14. Before residency, I would panic if the phone rang late. Now, the pager goes off at all hours, his cell phone rings whenever and he returns pages when they come in -- even if we're at the church carnival or if it's 2:30 am. The pager is suspiciously missing this morning. I swear I have nothing to do with that though! The hospital will just route his pages to his cell phone.;)
  15. I'm so sorry. I do know my mom's health history. DH and I don't use the same doc. If there is time, I go see my general doc. For "female" issues, I see my gyno. If I get sick on a weekend, I bug DH until he calls in a prescription for me. When he gets sick, he has a co-worker call in a prescription for him. Any check-ups for work are done at the med school's clinic (since he's at a childrens hospital, the clinic there won't fit him in). The money sucks, but the perks are pretty handy. Our children do have a pediatrician and he usually gets us in for appointments pretty quickly.
  16. I'm latina. My oldest got her ears pierced at 2 weeks old by a pediatric nurse from Honduras (my mom helped). We learned a valuable lesson. Infants don't like having their heads held still (but the nurse did numb her ear lobes). My second was taken to Claire's at 2 months old. I nursed her on one side and was ready to do the other when it was over. She didn't cry. I didn't feel wimpy for doing it the American way instead of the "old country" way for the second. Any more baby girls will be done the American way. My sister had her pediatrician do my niece's ears. Her gun doesn't get used nearly as often as a jewelry store. The gun got stuck on the second ear. I cried when I found out (my American DH had asked her to use a jewelry store because they do it so often). Anyway, there's my take. I don't care if anyone thinks it's cruel. The oldest didn't feel a thing (but she was pissed anyway), the younger didn't cry. :D
  17. We have a bunch of the Room Essentials bookshelves from Target. I think the 3-shelf ones are $19 and 5-shelf ones are $26, but that may have been the sale prices. The regular prices aren't bad though.
  18. If he says more winter, I can borrow my brother's rifle. Or just hit the stupid punk with my car. :auto:
  19. Add religion (gas to their Catholic school was killing me) and the fact that I don't like getting up before 7:30 a.m. Oh, and I like hanging out in my pjs. So do my girls. Oh, and my oldest has some learning difficulties, by homeschooling we are able to work through them to find her learning styles.
  20. Both girls take dance lessons 3 times a week. They have cousins close to their ages. They get plenty of social time. We are part of two co-ops, but aren't very active due to my 3 year old's preschool schedule and my daughters' ballet schedules.
  21. They can't force him to do it. That would be illegal.
