  1. My dd refused to look at Richmond for the same reason! Here is a thread on College Confidential about this subject. WARNING - don't open the thread unless you have a lot of time (it's very long) and don't be drinking anything or you'll end up needing a new keyboard - parts are very funny ;)
  2. Thanks for your thoughts, everybody!! DD is paring down her list and adding authors, and doing subsections by genre. She could have a subsection just for C.S. Lewis:lol:
  3. You could put Latin I and II on his transcript, with a note saying 8th grade courses were high school work.
  4. It sounds like our dds are alike :) So. If you were my dd, would you go back and add the authors? (it will require many hours of work). Or would you send the list "as is" without authors? Or would you edit the list down, and make it a "selected list"? :bigear:
  5. Some colleges request it, yes. Nothing on dd's list, but it made me want to throw out the question :001_smile:
  6. If you have included a recreational reading list, did you include everything read 9-12th? And did you include authors? I've had my dd keep a list since 8th grade, but have just discovered to my chagrin that she did NOT list authors! Is it worthwhile to go back and add the authors? Do a selected list with authors? Send the list "as is"? Scrap the list? Thanks! :)
  7. I love my Whole Foods bag. It's huge and also insulated. I've walked to the store (~ a mile) and brought home ice cream in the TX summer heat and it's held up fine :)
  8. :iagree: we have two sets from Discovery Toys. One of the few toys we still have.
  9. :hurray: Oh yea!! Congratulations, Carole!! You did it!!!:thumbup1: :cheers2:  DD is about 10 days from submitting her first app. Man, I could spend about 3 more years fine-tuning my part. :glare::001_huh:
  10. Honestly at this point, I wouldn't try to put everything into a nice neat package. My dd is a senior, two weeks away from doing some early applications, and I'm STILL playing with the layout of things :) That said, I *would* document her course descriptions, awards, etc. I have a big file folder where I've kept things for easy reference.
  11. No, the only one that "counts" is the test taken during junior year. I had my dd take it as a soph with no prep at all. She scored within range of qualifying for our state, so when she took it as a junior, we did some fairly serious prep, including a full blown practice test as well as some other one-section (25 minutes each) tests.
  12. :iagree: My family hasn't been affected by diabetes, but I've looked at this site and it seems warm, caring and welcoming. Very similar in look and feel to WTM. :grouphug:
  13. honestly, I think the best calculator is the one the student has the most experience and is the most comfortable with - he/she won't be as confident trying to figure out a new calculator - and it will kill precious time.
  14. From this booklet for test administrators (scroll down to page 6) - You may want to print out that page for ds to take to the testing center ;) I doubt any proctor will fuss about his calculators. Be sure to send him with a fresh set of batteries ;)
  15. :iagree: UVA is that way with the McIntire (business) school as well. Leanna already gave you some great advice... I just wanted to point out that College Confidential has a forum just for nursing majors. :001_smile: (you may have already known that).
  16. Don't sweat it. I know of at least one NM Scholar who didn't take it in her soph year but did great in her junior year :) Agreeing with the others, I wouldn't put her through that long test 2 days in a row. Trying for Sunday is a good idea, or have her do some short sections (25 minutes or so) using a timer, so she'll know how quickly each section will pass.
  17. I would recommend taking them in May or June of the year they studied that subject. Most students take the subjects they've done well in and have enjoyed, as they'll probably want to study some before taking the test. Do you have twins? :) My dd took her first subject tests in January of her junior year, and she's taking her last (hooray!!) this morning. So you have some wiggle room but good for you for thinking ahead.
  18. Just a quick clarification - any particular state's cutoff may (and often does) move up or down a point or two year to year. Otherwise, I love (and often refer to) the site Michelle posted :)
  19. Oh was that my post? I meant for practice - he could do short practice tests of just one 25-minute section, when he didn't have time for a full blown PRACTICE test. :001_smile: I think you've got a good plan to have him go in cold for his soph year, then you know where to focus your studies next year, for the one that counts :)
  20. My only complaint about the AG dolls is the quality of the hair has gone downhill since Mattel bought AG. When Pleasant Company owned AG, the dolls were made in Germany.
  21. Same here. I'm 5'8". The biggest issue is I occasionally drop wet items on the floor.:glare: I don't remember the platform costing $400 though
  22. He's the capital markets manager for a Fortune 500 company - basically what that means is he writes a lot of the reports that go out to the media on their financial status. He also handles monthly, quarterly and annual closing of the books. He does have his MBA which was a requirement for this job, so as Moira mentioned that's always a possibility for your ds.
