  1. Pamela- You didn't tell me you switched Gyms. Which one did you end up going with? KK moved up to the new level 3 a few months ago. We were kind of in limbo for a while but it is all official now. I paid for the competition leo so it better be anyways LOL. She is currently working to master the front hip circle and to make her round off back handspring prettier. She also needs to work on making her handstand beam dismount prettier. I guess for the most part it is just making things look prettier LOL. She has been doing extra summer practices and they have been worth every dime. The classes are much smaller and they have been focusing on what the individual girls need to work on. There has been a massive shift in the gym, with several of the upper level moms leaving and it has relieved a lot of stress that was building up so I am really looking forward to this season!
  2. Academy Sports carries a few. I will say though, that I prefer to put a little extra money into the leos that my daughter uses regularly. I have had issues with seams coming undone and fabric getting a hole in it. Granted, she is a competitive gymnast so there is a lot of use but if you are going to spend the money anyways, why not just get a better quality one :)
  3. I am just done with them to be honest. I am starting to get some minor capsular constriction which is causing pain, but I got them when I was quite young and now am just ready to be done with them. Also, our lifestyle has changed quite a bit since I got them and they don't mesh with my beliefs on what is healthy anymore. I am using the same surgeon that I used for the augmentation and am very confident in him. I am still doing research, but have contacted his office about setting up an appointment.
  4. Thanks. Hoping a few first hand accounts will help answer some of my questions. The doctor can answer them, but first hand accounts are always better.
  5. Very real. I have not found anything that helps, but I do know that it seems to be exaserbated by too much caffine.I once took a PM pill and that also gave me RLS. It was HORRIBLE. Nothing like being drugged and needing to sleep but not being able to due to the the RLS!
  6. I hope this is ok to post here. I did a search first and it has been talked about a bit before so going on that. Hoping someone with experience could help me out. My implants are 7 years old. I am looking at having them removed. In fact, pretty sure I am going that way. I am going to try to give the relevant information and then ask my questions. My original size was...well pretty much non-existant. I would have been lucky to be pushing AA so I don't have a lot of breast tissue. My implants are behind my muscles, are saline, small C, and my incision is under my arm. I am not having them replaced. I have contacted the doctor but I am wondering if anyone has BTDT and could tell me: Did your doctor go back through the original incision or did it have to be done in your fold? Did you do it under local/sedation or did you do full anestesia? How has your recovery been? Is there any special issues related to not having much original tissue? Are you pleased with the results? What was your cost? Thanks! While I am confident with my decision to have them removed I wouldn't mind some first hand perspective on it.
  7. It has been one of my favorites. I grew very tired of Bible curriculums that only teach basic Bible stories. I love that LP digs into theology and doctrine. We would use a different version of the Bible if it were up to us, but that isn't enough to keep us from using the LP. I usually purchase the box set which comes with the TM, but I don't use it very often. We just finished up 3rd grade.
  8. How is it that a child's birthday party can drain me so much. This is why I only throw parties every few years.

  9. Abeka History is pretty straight forward. Read the assignment, answer the questions, take a quiz or test. I went through 13 years of Abeka and that was pretty much the story of both history and science and I was in a classroom.
  10. I agree with others who said that the Teacher Intensive is absolutely necessary. I had the student stuff but sold that and have been using our own material with his teaching methods. I haven't had any trouble at all. I watch the DVD and then pass on that information to my kids. Andrew makes the method more than easy to understand.
  11. I haven't been doing it, but I decided I am going to add in a 15 minute quick review at the beginning of each day. We will just take a few minutes to go over what ever we are learning in each subject and maybe practice a word of the day or something like that.
  12. Got our standardized test results back. Pleased to announce that according to the test my kids are normal (read average). I hate those tests.

  13. IEW is less about grade level and more about writing ability. Do you have the Teacher Intensive? I would watch it and see if you need to start from A, but it is easily adaptable to different ages. You would just use more difficult passages and expect more from them as far as the dress ups and such go.

  15. Seriously downsizing the school room. In my wildest dreams we are "functional" minimalists. Not sure we will ever get there, but I am making real progress towards adjusting to our smaller space.

  16. 8.5 hours of gymnastics per week is killing me. I can not wait until we are done with the extra summer workouts. Good news is that DD8 leveled up 2 times over the summer and will compete on the new level 3 (old level 4) this meet season. At least the extra hours have paid off!

Congrats to her! My DD was doing 20 hours over the summer - crazy!

I don't think it would have been so hard if she hadn't suddenly gone from 2 hours up to the 8.5 with virtually no transition. She drops back to 6 once school starts back up though.

  17. I felt the same way until I looked back and realized we have that even though we are doing all of our work during those time, it is much more laid back and casual. I could definitely shorten our day but it would mean being super strict about how much talking we do and I definitely don't want to do that. As previous posters have stated if it works for you then it is perfect! I did find that this year (4th) seemed to really pick up for us. Maybe this is your year for that with a 3rd grader.
  18. This is what my techie husband is using for the girls http://www.raspberrypi.org/
  19. What about lapbooking it and just using what you find online to supplement? Will mean a little more work for you but could be a lot of fun?
  20. My husband is British and doesn't remember covering it at all. I also want to cover both sides since my children are 1/2 British by blood.
  21. I am not finding this year's curriculum search to be nearly as enjoyable as the previous years. I am ready to settle in and I can't seem to find "it" KWIM?

I would if the convention wasn't sneaking up on me!

  22. Nope. Plenty of times on this board but never in real life. I run our local group and we are all inclusive and so far have had very few issues (and those were political and between very two dramatic people). Sometimes the group splinters a bit and those with similar religious views choose to do activities together and I am fine with that.
  23. As long as I am using a good mix of biographies, historical non-fiction, historical fiction and a comprehensive checklist or scope and sequence, do you have confidence that a child can get enough history? I am finding myself drifting away from text books, even ones like SOTW and MOH. I find we are more likely to get it done if it is our read aloud or assigned quiet reading. Thoughts?
