  1. These used to be free. :( They might still be what you are looking for though. http://nutritionforhealthykids.com/shop/
  2. Thank you for the replies! I rarely go to the big mall so next time we are in the city I will check out American Eagle and the Gap.
  3. Our library allows you to print 10 pages per day, per library card for free. Printing though.. not copies. I have a library card for each family member (so 5 total) and I go to the library once or twice a week. E-books are already in .pdf, or I scan other pages I need into a .pdf and put them on a zip drive. It is a little bit of a pain to log in, print 10 pages, log out then log in with the next card, etc. But I'm cheap so I put up with it.. lol It's worth an ask to your librarian.
  4. Ell-ee-ah-nuh My friends have an adorable little pixie of an Eliana and they call her Ellie. Congrats on a little girl.. They are the so fun! =D
  5. Looking for a brand of jeans that will fit my gymnast. She is 10 and has very long legs (like a size 12), but a small waist (more like a 10 or even an 8) and of course a gymnasts thighs so "skinny" jeans are out. A long rise means that short rise jeans are to short in the rise and I've about given up hope of finding modest jeans(not skin tight) that fit all the different sized parts! Thankfully, summer is coming and shorts, capris and skirts are much easier to fit! However, living in the country.. she does need at least 1 pair of jeans. Any ideas for possible brands would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  6. http://museofthemorning.com/homeschool/2013/10/21/the-ultimate-guide-to-resources-and-activities-for-story-of-the-world-vol-1/ And this blog has lapbooks to go with the volumes.. SOTW1 and the first half of 2 are not of her creation and the original blog has shut down but she has the files and according to the comments.. should have them up and available through dropbox soon. http://brendajohnston.blogspot.com/2013/01/story-of-world-volume-2-lapbook.html
  7. I think it's the units, Nansk. Six units x 6 weeks = 36 week school year. Thanks for the link, Hunter. I'll be saving these!
  8. We did Getting Started with Spanish last year and liked it. My dd was 9 and it was easy enough for her to understand but wasn't fluffy in any way. No fancy colored pages. It is meant for all ages, even adults and is structured for that. I had 4 years of Spanish in HS/college and imho it introduced topics in a very logical way. For the price, I don't think you could get a better basic introduction to Spanish.
  9. My dd10 is halfway through Epsilon and has never used the blocks. She thinks Mr. Demme is funny and watches the videos herself. The only time I "teach" it is if she comes to a concept in her other mathwork (I have her do Scholastic worksheets and such too) that MUS hasn't covered yet, then I stop and explain that concept to her. At times I have overruled Mr. Demme though.. The way he taught multiple digit by multiple digit multiplication didn't click with her so I just told her how to do it and let her do it her way on the worksheets/test. As long as she got the right answer, I was good. Do they like the program?? I would say that if they like the program, are retaining it and getting decent scores they are doing fine. If they would prefer a spiral approach.. then switch ..I think those ages and where they are they should be fine with switching. There might be a concept or two that they may not have touched on before.. but at those ages.. they should be easy enough to be explained by you should you come across them. The MUS they have had will be a great foundation. And I wouldn't like Singapore either personally. =D
  10. Drive up window is G-E-N-I-U-S I am suggesting that to my library! I might just link them to this thread.. lol
  11. I knew there was a feature of my library I forgot to mention. =D Love, love the feature of emailing impending due dates!
  12. I read and agreed with many of these posts and here is my $.02. I live outside our library district and buy a library card for $115 per year. It is a multiple library system and the closest branch to me is in the next little town down the road about 10 miles. That particular very small branch has the kids section upstairs with only 1 way out (down the stairs and past the adult books and bank of computers). I love it that I can hop on a computer to look for books or print and know my kids can use the library/play and not be able to get snatched. I hate children's sections with multiple ins/outs.. It's very hard to browse and watch all the kids (who are short and disappear behind shelves). I love that they can use our little library on their own and feel independent and I don't have to worry. It's a small town and closed Sat/Sun but open until 8pm on Wednesday nights. <3 Other things about our library I love: No late fees - on anything Outside return bins for anytime returns Great online catalog that allows holds to be placed and the items sent to my branch for pickup Can have up to 50 checkouts and 50 holds per card, everyone in the fam can get a card for that same $115/yr fee Same great online catalog allows for the making and saving of lists of books to remember or to get in the future (GREAT feature for a homeschooler, Lists for every subject and every kid!) 10 free printed pages or copies per card per day! How many .pdf workbooks have I printed with library ink! =D Free ILL.. 5 requests per library card at a time. (I didn't realize it cost them quite so much as stated above! Now I'm even more grateful! I've gotten/previewed curriculum and books from all over) Access to borrowing e-books (I haven't done much with this one.) Reciprocal agreement with a neighboring library system that offers access to Mango languages Great staff Love, love, love my library! Of course my library system is huge and has a large budget even though my branch is tiny. Good luck to you.
  13. Both of my olders hate coloring. It surprised me a great deal to have the littlest whine for crayons and seem to enjoy the act of coloring! I think it is just a matter of how each child is wired and I don't force it. My dd does Artistic Pursuits and does enjoy the painting and drawing but will never do it for a living. =D
  14. Just some website suggestions for you to check out.. http://www.middleschoolchemistry.com/ might be to advanced but for a science-y or motivated kid, maybe not http://www.thunderboltkids.co.za/index.html free and online with downloadable adventure reading. I read somewhere that South Africa starts school differently and these would be the equiv of 3rd -6th grade stuff http://www.chem4kids.com/
  15. Thank you!! And I am so very sorry to ask you this.. but this is just Unit 1.. (I know on the first page it says 1-5 but in the actual pages it's only Unit 1).. So can I beg your benevolence to link up the rest? I know it takes precious time and I don't have anything to offer in return except my gratitude.. but I would be ever so grateful! =D
  16. I love Evan Moor books (had a teacher file box subscription last year) but I'm not currently using any EM books. I am, however, using Studies Weekly 4th grade science here this year and love it!! I do supplement from the library, online sites and Discovery Education/Brainpop videos just because my dd loves science and loves to read and watch videos.. lol Lower grades are really very simple I think but they would make a great supplement too. Can't beat the price! Side note: We are using the state history Studies Weekly also and it is great also!
  17. Does DES still have the learning guides for Elementary Spanish up on their site? I cannot find them and I'm thinking I probably have the basic version since it is offered free through our school district. I found a link for one and was able to access it with my basic account.. I just can't search for them. Would one of you be so kind as to link them for me? I am most interested in the 3rd/4th but 5th/6th would be great too. Thank you in advance for your time and I really appreciate it!! Lori
  18. We have used MUS from the beginning and are in Epsilon this year. When we got to those couple of lessons .. I just taught dd the first way you listed because she "got it" that way. I hope this doesn't mess us up for Algebra but she gets base ten/place value fine.. But this was just odd so we skipped it. It's just a couple of lessons though and then he moves on.
  19. Another vote for GSWS! We used it (half) last year and it was exactly this. ^^
