  1. We used Horizons Math K & absolutely loved it. We will be using Horizons Grade 1 this year. Horizons might be a good fit for your child. Hope this helps.
  2. Ladies, thank you for your very helpful responses.
  3. I would appreciate any information you can tell me about TOG. Pros & cons, likes & dislikes, why it worked or did not work for your family. It seems costly, is it worth the cost if you only have one child? How teacher intensive is it? Is it easy to use or complicated? At the 1st grade level which subjects are not included. I have not been able to see the program so I would greatly appreciate any information you think might help give me a clearer picture of how it functions. Thank so much for your time.
  4. LNC, does the book you purchased from Amazon include the CD-Rom? Thanks
  5. Thank you Nukeswife for the detailed explanation. It was very helpful.
  6. Welcome! It is great to meet you & to have you here. Just jump right in & make yourself at home. You will get great advice & recommendations here. I am sorry your dd has had such a negative experience & I hope she is doing much better away from the bullying. Bless you both.
  7. and the Workbook? Does the workbook include the information covered in the text? I definitely want the "workbook", but I am not sure if I also need the text, are both necessary to teach WWE to its full potential. I was planning to order both, but some where along the way, reading WWE posts here on the WTM board, I feel somewhat confused about whether both are really necessary. Thanks in advance.
  8. Thanks again Maverick. I called my local Staples and they said they would honor the online ad sale price. I just needed to print the sale ad page & take it into the store. I went & purchased a Desk Apprentice last night.
  9. Thank you, Maverick. Do you know if Staples Stores honor the online prices?
  10. Does the Desk Apprentice ever come on sale at Staples? If so, do you know how often? Does anyone else carry it? Thank you.
  11. Does the Desk Apprentice ever come on sale at Staples? If so, do you know how often? Does anyone else carry it? Thank you.
  12. Thank you Nukeswife, for the instructions. I did what you suggested & it changed the title inside the post once you open it, but not on the thread that is posted on the board. Did I do something incorrectly? Any other suggestions?
  13. Okay I am thoroughly embarrassed & humiliated ! The really sad things about this is that I realized I had not put AAS, but couldn't seem to figure out how to edit the question portion. However until I came back in here & read the first post pointing it out I did not even catch what I had ACTUALLY posted. Needless to say I am so sorry & beyond embarrased. If you knew me personally you would know just HOW embarrased I am at this. Please if anyone knows how I can edit the original thread portion I would appreciate your assistance. If I have in any way offended anyone, please accept my sincerest apology.
  14. These sound wonderful & this is the first I have heard of them. Can you please tell me more about them & where I might purchase them? Thanks!
  15. My child loves "Planet Earth" & "Blue Planet". I actually found some workbooks & flash cards to go with this study at the dollar store. I recently purchased three new sets called "Planet Ocean" (4 dvd set) & "The Wild Arctic"(4 dvd set) as well as a the Reader's Digest set, "Natures Great Events" (6dvd set). We have not used these yet but they look really great. I purchased these from Sam's club, they were very reasonable. Hope this helps
  16. ((HUGS)) I am sorry you are struggling so much with this & feeling so discouraged. I think what you are feeling, happens often with new homeschoolers. I have no doubt you can succeed at homeschooling. You have gotten some wise advice so far. I won't repeat any of it except to say, please don't make any decision until you are feeling less discouraged. If you decide to continue with homeschooling I would like to recommend you check into "Spell to Write & Read" (SWR). From all you said, it sounds like it might be a good fit for your daughter. Especially since she likes to write, you would be approaching reading from the point of spelling & writing. If you would like more information there is a wonderfully informative yahoo group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SpellToWriteAndRead/ Hope you find this helpful.
  17. Here is where you can try online samples. http://www.explodethecode.com/02_how/student_demo/ Hope this helps. BTW, how are you finding out how many have signed up so far on the Homeschool Coop site? Thanks.
  18. for the letter tiles. I don't really want to pay the extra shipping just to buy the magnets. Has anyone bought magnets locally that work for these letter tiles? If so, can you share which ones you got, size etc...., where you got them, & how well they have worked out for you?
  19. I am very interested, however I was thinking I would not want to start until the Sept date. Is everyone else planning to sign up for the Aug. date? I just read on the site that each month has to have 26 to get the 33% off discount. I was hoping it wouldn't matter which month you started as long as you signed together. No such luck. If everyone is planning to sign up for the August date I will go ahead and sign up for that date as well since it might be the best chance for a discount. BTW, thank you Homeschooling6 for sharing this great information here. Bless you!
