  1. Thank you all for your time, I appreciate it very much. Your responses are very helpful.
  2. Thank you for your responses & I have a couple of other questions if I may. How do you go about determining if a fictional book is "well-written" or "historically accurate"? Is there a resource you use that recommends such books?
  3. What do you feel is the benefit or value of using historical fiction in your homeschool History curriculum?
  4. Tami, Thank you so much for all the helpful information.
  5. Tami, Thank you for your reply & for your suggestions. I had originally considered MOH but was told it might be too advanced for a 1st grader. What do you think? Have you used it at that age? I will have to check into the Bob Jones Heritage Studies 3 & 4. Thank you.
  6. Chanda, Thanks for your response and the Usborne Book of World History suggestion. To answer your question. I would be comfortable with short lessons that could be done daily or more involved, well laid out lessons, that could be covered in 2 days a week. I am really wanting to focus most of our time each day on a couple of other subjects. However I do want to gently cover history in a way that would lead us down a 4 year course of study.
  7. beginning in 1st grade with ancient history. What are my options for curriculum besides SOTW? I am interested in something written from a Christian perspective. I would like something gentle & age appropriate, but fairly straight forward. I don't want a unit study. Nor do I want to have to track down a lot of separate books. This idea is wonderful in theory, just not a good fit for us. I would sure appreciate any suggestions you might have for me.
  8. course would you recommend starting with for 1st grade? Astronomy Botony Zoology I, II, or III (does it matter which of these I use first?) Anyone feel these are too advanced for a first grader? If so do you have any recommendations? TIA
  9. Thank you for sharing this resource.

  11. It is my understanding that GWG is a secular program. I wondered if anyone could tell me whether it contains material that might be offensive to Christians or is it fairly neutral? Thanks
  12. Hi Trisha, I am sorry it has taken you so long to get approved for the SWR yahoo group. It usually in very quick. I want to say for me it was only a few hours. I wanted to encourage you to apply again. Something doesn't seem quite right if you have been waiting a week. It is such a wonderful supportive resource. There is a lot of helpful information in the files. It is a busy board and everyone is so helpful. I am also in the beginning stage of using SWR and still learning to figure it all out. I am starting with a beginner so I am in a little different place than you. I was very encouraged to hear your ds loves the program. It really is a wonderful program. Just somewhat complicated for us as teachers. Looking forward to seeing you on the SWR board soon!
