  1. 😥 It was the first news that I saw this morning and it took me a few minutes to realize it was real. I was a big fan before he became known, before Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise. I actually don't care for the music that made him famous. I saw him in concert twice in the 1970s - once in Tallahassee when I was in college and once in Orlando while I was home from college on summer break. When I lived in Georgia and would get homesick for Florida I'd play this song over and over. "Salt air it ain't thin. It can stick right to your skin and make you feel fine. Makes you feel fiiine."
  2. I have a number of reasons for wearing a bra but the main one involves two words: boob sweat It's not just a matter of discomfort. In my climate under breast sweat can cause yeast infections. I don't wear one to bed because we keep the house cool overnight and because I find it comfortable to let them breathe a while. I only had one baby but I had him at an advanced age, which changed my body forever. If I still had my perky small to average (34B) breasts I might go braless more often. But the way they fall now makes it too easy to get hot and uncomfortable. I can't wear underwire. I hate it. I also hate sports bras but I wear one when swimming. It's the only way I found to be comfortable in a UV SPF swim shirt. Bingo. When my mom and stepfather split up in 1973 she could not get a credit card. She could not get a check cashing card at the grocery store which was a big deal back then or you had to bring cash to the grocery store all the time and be careful not to go over what was in your wallet. Oh, and she was lucky to have found a bank that actually let her open an account on her own. It wasn't until 1974 that banks were forced to allow women to open accounts. She couldn't buy life insurance. As a single mom without the kids' father in the picture (my dad died 3 years earlier) she wanted to know we were taken care of. One life insurance salesman told her "If you want life insurance get a husband". She kicked him out of the house. Finally, even though she was financially capable of making payments she couldn't get a car loan without a man's signature. My grandfather, a retired man on a fixed income, had to cosign for her. Thank you rah rah women for seeing to it that I never had to go what my mother went through. I don't always notice but when I do, it's usually younger women. Good on them! I'm glad to see women choosing to wear or not wear a bra based on their own desires, not some arbitrary social pressure. Especially if you had a baby who liked to play with the cover! I tried using a cover but ds would always grab it in his little fist and wave it around. 😂 I gave up. While I never got any comments I did get some side eye now and then, and sometimes giggling teens (girls and boys). One time we were at the IL's for a big family thing. I took ds in the other room out of what I figured was respect. I heard dh's Tennessee Mamaw ask where I went and heard him answer. I heard her reply "I guess I'm just a ol' country mountain girl. I fed my babies wherever they were hungry".
  3. I thought of another one - Sweet potato black bean bowls. Someone here mentioned it I think on the well trained bodies thread a while back. There are a number of recipes online. Just pick one that matches your taste, or do like I did and take a little from each recipe. Also, pasta e fagioli (Italian American slang - pasta fazool). I'm afraid I can't give you a recipe because I just make it. It's Italian peasant food no matter what some Italian restaurants would have you believe. It literally translates to pasta and beans. My mom made it often because it was cheap and filling. Fortunately my brother and I love it and never got tired of it. You can search for "authentic" pasta fagioli. You can use white kidney beans but cannellini beans taste best. Substitute chick peas for the beans and you have pasta cici.
  4. Most of what I make takes 45 minute or less. Here are a few favorites. Some are recipes I found online. Some are my own and the recipe links are the closest I can find to my not-really-a-recipe dish. Korean Beef and Rice Bowl - not sure how authentic it is but we all like it. I always serve it with cucumbers as recommended because they help cool it down. We're having this tonight. It's super easy and very tasty. https://www.cookingclassy.com/healthy-lemon-parmesan-chicken-and-veggies-cooking-classy/ Egg Roll in a Bowl - We don't eat keto so don't necessarily use keto specific ingredients. I also make wonton chips using wonton wrappers. Angel Hair Pasta with Basil and Tomatoes - This is similar to what I make. I use more than 5 leaves of basil and slice it en chiffonade. Often I'll add chicken. I use boneless skinless breast or breast tenderloins. Season it with salt and pepper, cut it into bite size pieces, and cook it. Remove it from the pan before cooking the tomatoes and garlic, then add it back in. Save some of the pasta cooking water and add it as needed. Oh, and I just read the full recipe. I don't discard the garlic. What? I guess because they don't mince it. I mince it and add it to the pan. Be careful not to brown it or it will turn bitter. Grilled salmon is always a hit. Put some sweet potatoes in the microwave if you don't want to take the time to bake them. Make honey cinnamon butter or flavor them however you like. A quick side salad or steamed broccoli goes well with it.
  5. Definitely! They're not native to this area though and are pretty rare. People now are more aware that a weird painful bite might be from a brown recluse but when he was bitten it was far from the first thought doctors would turn to. He was fortunate he didn't lose part of his arm.
  6. Oh wow! I hope your recovery goes well. While not a black widow, dh was bitten by a brown recluse before I met him. He didn't realize how serious it was and by the time he sought treatment they had to remove a good part of the dead tissue in his arm. He still has scars even though it happened in the late 1980s.
  7. Other than during my teen years I always hated talking on the phone. My mom loved it and would talk for literally hours with friends or one of her sisters. She used to call me all the time just to tell me one thing then I'd have trouble getting off the phone. It was one of the things I regretted after she died. Even now 15 years later there are times I wish I could pick up the phone to tell or ask her something, or answer the phone and let her chat about nothing/everything. My niece must have inherited mom's love of talking on the phone. She's a millennial so you would expect her to prefer texting but she likes talking on the phone better. She's one of the few people I enjoy chatting to on the phone.
  8. This is wonderful news. I hope you continue to get better.
  9. Which airport? I'm only familiar with Orlando. Get there 2 hours before your flight. You most likely won't need that much time but I'm a worrier when it comes to catching flights.
  10. No. I believe luck is how many people view random chance in order to make sense of it.
  11. Dh does that to dss. Or he used to. Dss finally asked him not to do that. Then he got a side promise from me to either insist dh tell him or I'll do it. Aww. In ds' sonogram he had his arm curled up with his fist next to his ear. He always slept like that and for all I know he still does.
  12. Oh dear. I was thinking that maybe he feels they're not problems he should address and you should see a specialist. If it's that he doesn't think those are real medical issues then I definitely won't be staying with him. Even if I never have those medical issues I won't support a doctor like that. When ds aged out of his pediatrician the first doctor he chose tried to wean him off his ADHD meds. No, just no. He found someone else. I hope I didn't find one of those doctors.
  13. Yeah, it's doing that to me. However, I do have some regular prescriptions I'll need filled so I had to find someone. His online reviews were decent and unlike some of the other local doctors, they could get me in within a reasonable time after my other doctor officially left our ins. plan.
  14. *UPDATE* I saw the doctor today and asked him about not prescribing these meds. He was confused. He said he doesn't know who said that or why. He has a number of patients with ADHD for whom he prescribes meds and the only thing he won't prescribe is opioid pain meds. That didn't surprise me because most general practitioners won't prescribe those meds. Weirdly, that's the one controlled medication the woman I spoke to didn't mention. I think I'll be happy with this doctor and will give him a chance. I'm just curious if anyone knows. Of course I can ask the doctor. Google is not being helpful. My PCP left our insurance and I had to find a new one. I have a new patient visit scheduled for next week and yesterday they called me with some last minute information. The receptionist said, "Now just to make sure you're aware, Dr. B does not prescribe antidepressants, anti anxiety medications, ADHD medications, or sleep aids." I jokingly said the only time I need anti anxiety meds is when I fly. She laughed and said actually that's fine. He just doesn't prescribe them as a regular medication. I don't have ADHD and though I don't currently need any of the other meds that doesn't mean I never will. At first I thought he just doesn't want to deal with Schedule II drugs. Many doctors don't, and ds has had trouble finding one to prescribe his ADHD meds. But she didn't mention pain meds, many of which are Schedule II so it has me scratching my head. Anyone have any idea what his reasoning might be? I've never had a doctor's office tell me this up front before. I probably won't ask him since I don't need them, though I might mention my need for something when I travel by plane. Like I said, I'm just curious. It doesn't actually matter to me, at least not at this time. And if it ever becomes an issue I can always change doctors.
  15. I use Google Assistant on my Watch 5. I don't remember how I told it to use Assistant instead of Bixby.
  16. I love my Galaxy Watch 5. It comes in 40mm and 44mm. I have 40mm because the larger one looks clunky on my small wrist. Years ago I had a Galaxy smart watch and hated it but that was when they used Tizen as the operating system. The newer watches use Android. I have a Galaxy phone and Galaxy earbuds so everything works together seamlessly. Still, I'm pretty sure the Galaxy Watch works well with other Android phones. I think the Galaxy Watch 6 is out now so you could either get the latest one or possibly get a good deal on the 5. I wouldn't recommend the 4 - when I bought this one I looked at a lot of reviews and apparently the 4 had issues that were addressed in the newer model.
  17. I've had both of these fabrics for about 10 years and no longer remember what autumn themed project I originally planned to make. Since downsizing and moving to this house 3 years ago I've had trouble finding seasonal wedge shaped placemats to fit our small round table. I haven't liked any of the ones I've seen so I finally decided to just make some. I have enough material left to make a round piece for the middle of the table.
  18. Ds was a huge Steve Irwin fan. He named our dog Dingo because - "Steve Irwin is from Australia and dingoes are from Australia". I remember having to tell him about just after his Crocodile Hunter themed 9th birthday party we had the previous weekend. Poor kid was so sad.
  19. Yep. It was a Saturday. We had a family event scheduled for later in the day and we weren't sure if dh was going to make it. No one was allowed to make or receive calls but he managed to give me a quick call to let me know he had no idea when they'd be released. He did eventually make it but he was late to the family thing (I can't recall what the family thing was even though I know it was important at the time).
  20. Oh I forgot the Watergate hearings. My mom was constantly watching on tv so I absorbed it even through my teen I-don't-care-about-politics attitude.
  21. I was in 3rd grade at Catholic school. If I hadn't been home sick that day I would have been in church with the entire school for a mass that was called for when the news came.
  22. Well I'm old so there are many - JFK - I was home from school sick that day. My grandmother called my mom and told her "Turn on the radio. The president's been shot". Yes, radio. We did watch all the rest of the events on tv (black and white) but the initial news was from the radio. Oddly, though I was older when both MLK Jr. and Bobby Kennedy were shot, I don't remember the details. I just remember hearing about the assassinations. Moon landing - My parents were separated and it was my dad's weekend to have us We were making candy apples at his house and kept stopping to watch the tv. I watched Neil Armstrong actually set foot on the moon at home because by that time my dad brought us back. Elvis - I was working in the fabric department of a regional big box store and they always played a radio station throughout the store. It came over the radio. I called my mom on my break and she hadn't heard yet. She was a huge fan, always played his records while I was growing up, and she cried when I told her. John Lennon - I was among those who heard it from Howard Cosell. I was watching Monday Night Football with my then roommates and he announced it. We all just looked at each other in shock and one of my roommates kept saying, "No! No!" Berlin Wall - I don't recall where or when I heard. I just remember that my mom and I were on the phone both watching it on our tvs and talking about what it meant for the future of the Soviet Union. Challenger - I live on the Space Coast. We watch launches all the time. At the time I was teaching at a high school that's directly across the river from the launch pad. Many teachers, including myself, took students outside to watch launches then went back in to our classrooms to continue the lesson. I was standing outside with my special ed students and we watched it explode in the sky above us. I was dating a guy at Patrick AF Base who flew rescue helicopters. He later said they went up expecting to rescue the astronauts and the realization that there was no one to rescue really hit hard. 9/11 - It was a dreary day. Hurricane Gabrielle was either a tropical storm or tropical depression. It was across the state in the Gulf of Mexico but brought us outer bands with some rain and I was trying to keep my newly minted very active 4yo (ds 25) occupied in the house. When the first plane hit my mom called to tell me I should turn on the tv. Columbia - Again, I'm on the Space Coast. I turned on the tv to find out when it would land (we always looked weirdly forward to the twin sonic booms) and the local newscaster was saying they lost contact with it. Dh worked for a civilian contractor at Canaveral AF Station and was at work. He had worked an overnight shift and was supposed to be home soon but everything was locked down and no one was allowed to leave.
