  1. Thanks for the advice. He's been using Hibiclens in the morning, based on a recommendation from one of the ladies at the spa in the hotel where dh works. I think that is too harsh for his skin - it just keeps drying it out. I'll look for the Neutrogena moisturizer tonight. He has a prescription of Tretinoin, which I think is a retinol cream?
  2. That's what I've been telling him. It has only been two weeks. His skin is pretty dry. I'll look for a moisturizer.
  3. Thanks. According to this link, It looks like I need to get a different kind of zinc. I just got what they had in stock at K-mart, but I will look for zinc picolinate tonight.
  4. DS has severe acne. We've been to the dermatologist multiple times, he's used the various topical ointments they have prescribed. He tried accutane/isotretinoin last year. It went okay for the first month, but when they upped the dosage it made him very sick. So he won't be trying that again. Since October 1st, he has been off dairy. I've started giving him zinc supplements. We are changing his pillowcase once a week. He is washing his face twice a day, alternating clear glycerin soap and Neutrogena foaming face wash. He is not using the prescription treatments from the dermatologist. Should he? What else can he do? He has always been an easygoing kid, not letting too much bother him. But this is bothering him. How long do you have to be off dairy to start seeing a difference? I'd just like to give him some hope that it will get better... Thanks!
  5. There is the Chesapeake Inn or the Bayard House in Chesapeake City. The Port House Grille or Unwined in North East. The Fair Hill Inn in Elkton/Fair Hill. Krazy Kat's at the Inn at Montchanin or Pizza by Elizabeths in Wilmington.
  6. DD started out with a Barnett Lil' Banshee and has moved up to the Barnett Banshee compound bow. They have descriptions on their website. Hope that helps!
  7. I can't help you with the planting - our house is where flowers and shrubs come to die. But you could put some kind of metal wall art on the chimney. There are lots of neat ideas here.
  8. The scene at the end of Glory, when Matthew Broderick leads the 54th in the attack against the fort. Gets me every time.
  9. We bought a folding mat from Tiffin years ago and it is still going strong. This is the one we got. http://www.tiffinmats.com/products/elite-tumbler/ We live very close to the Tiffin factory, so we saved on shipping by picking the mat up ourselves.
  10. DS got a JBL Flip for Christmas and has used it almost every day since then. It has been working great for him.
  11. I just saw this on FB. Benedict Cumberbatch on Sesame Street...
  12. I just found a great new series on Netflix - Endeavour. It's listed on Netflix twice - one is the first episode/pilot and the other has four episodes. It's a prequel to Inspector Morse and I've really enjoyed the first three episodes.
  13. Thank you for all of the suggestions. He and I sat down and looked at what he has finished and still needs to do to catch up. We've come up with a schedule that we think will work. We are going to add some of the Khan Academy videos and the lectures that Swimmermom3 suggested. He wants to stick with chemistry this year so that he doesn't have to do it again next year. Definitely not going to be a science major in college :)
  14. DS has been using Exploring Creation with Chemistry for the first 16 weeks of this school year and it is just not clicking for him. I've been reading the chemistry thread with all of the different recommendations and am considering a couple of them. But I don't want him to have to rush through a year's worth of chemistry in 20 weeks. He could do it, but I don't feel like he would be retaining what he's learning. So my question is, is there another science he can do for the rest of this school year (10th grade)? And then we can go back and start chemistry over again in 11th? Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
  15. When we needed something large for the wall in our living room, I built a wooden frame out of 1 x 1's from Home Depot, then covered it with a few yards of a pretty fabric from Michael's. We've gotten lots of compliments on it, and even covered it with wrapping paper one Christmas to add to the holiday cheer :)
  16. Can you tell me more about what this looks like? How many minutes/intensity of cardio? How do you know how many reps/what weights to use? Every day or every other day? I've lost 35 pounds since February and would like to lose another 5 - 10, but also tone my arms, thighs, and stomach. Thanks!
  17. My 19-year-old niece is moving to Australia in less than a month to attend college. Housing is being provided, but I was wondering if anyone can give advice about what kinds of things she should pack, what to expect living in Australia, insider tips, etc. She will be living near Sydney and relying on public transportation to get around. Thanks! Heather in MD
  18. I agree, and it's not just because I work for a resort in Providenciales :) U.S. Air offers a direct flight from Philadelphia.
  19. We are considering a tutor, but haven't gotten there yet. Can you post the ISBN # for the Lial's books and dvds? I'd like to look into them - especially since the price sounds great! Thanks, Heather
  20. My 9th grade ds is making okay progress through his current Algebra 1 book (Dolciani's Modern Algebra), but I am finding that it is getting harder for him with each lesson to understand. I don't have a strong math background, so I am struggling to explain the concepts to him. I am considering purchasing either Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1 or The Teaching Company's Alegebra 1 to help us both out. Any opinions on either/both of these programs would be appreciated. Or any others that you like. Thanks! Heather
  21. I do bookkeeping and answer the phones a few days each week for the reservation office of a resort in the Turks & Caicos Islands. I've been working for them for 18+ years now, so my boss is very good about letting me work from home :)
  22. I'm not sure how old your son is, but the Lancaster Science Factory is a fun way to spend a few hours. As for a hotel, the Fulton Steamboat Inn looks great. Hope that helps :)
  23. DS 15 recommends these: The Brotherband Chronicles by John Flanagan The Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer Theodore Boone books by John Grisham Island of Thieves by Josh Lacey Michael Vey books by Richard Paul Evans Hope that helps!
  24. We bought a mat years ago at Tiffin. http://www.tiffinmats.com/ It has been well-used and still looks great. We lucked out because their factory is less than 10 minutes from our house, so we were able to save on shipping costs by picking it up.
  25. We recently bought some undershirt/t-shirts for dd that seem to be comfortable. We got them at Kohls in the girl's department - I'm pretty sure they are Hanes. Also, I've seen lots of recommendations for the American Girl book, but what to do if your dd is a tomboy? I don't think she'll like anything with AG in the title :) Any other suggestions? Thanks!
