Which online math for remediation?
dtsmamtj replied to ByGrace3's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I can't get the Catchup site to work. I too am looking for some math help for my daughter. T -
I don't have one, and probably will never have one. My oldest has one that started out as a "family" idea. None of my other children have one and they can't give me a good reason to have one in the first place. My oldest started out via reconnecting with my BIL and SIL who live in another state and we only see once every 5-6 years. I will log on and skim especially if I know a friend is having a baby, etc. I see absolutely no point in sharing anything about my daily living. My daughter will post about special things, but that is usually about it. I personally don't like the Facebook security/privacy issues, etc either.

Dysphoneidesia - form of Dyslexia?
dtsmamtj replied to dtsmamtj's topic in The Learning Challenges Board
Thank you - that actually makes sense to me now. He struggles connecting the two together at times. His struggles mainly focus on "words" not "things." In reading he would sometimes look at a word and "see" something else (or guess). After yesterday, I am starting to see a similarity between some of the letters he struggles with (l, t, h, d, b, k are ones that come to mind). The letters are not "backwards" but just seen incorrectly at times. Right now we are using a home therapy that uses rapid naming of letters and directions. I think I will have him look at some pictures and see how he does though. Any thoughts on home school curriculum adjustments or other exercises would be appreciated. In Him, T -
Anyone out there ever heard of this one? Recommendations if you have? This was one of the results of my son's vision testing that was recently done. T

Great book for foster parents and teens about a teenage foster girl
dtsmamtj replied to Ottakee's topic in The Chat Board
Thank you. I passed the name of the book on to my dear friend who has a 16 year old foster daughter. -
I had a friend who bought a new bookshelf/display piece. I remember her telling me she needed to get straight home and get it put in place because her husband would notice it if it sat in the middle of the room, but not if it was against the wall with books, etc. placed on it

For me, Citalopram works. I had major side effects when I first started this medication, but well worth it!!

Our entire family uses this. I had a smart phone (android) until it died. I got a basic phone because I couldn't afford anything more - I am waiting for my mom's hand-me-down after the first of the year when she gets to upgrade. We have a couple of different plans going - most are on the $12 plan, but I am on a larger one allowing for a bit more texting.

Children being bussed across border illegally. Heard of this?

There is no misunderstanding that the US immigration policy, by and large, isn't enforced. Yes, I live in an area affected by this. -
Generalized menopause anxiety thread: ask a question, get an honest answer
dtsmamtj replied to a topic in The Chat Board
I did - they kept me in the house for up to 2-3 days at a time. I ended up having a biopsy done and my OB ended up doing a mini-DNC right then and there to see if it would help. It did help, those cycles were less often. I was only 38-39 when things started changing for me. My doctor told me I was "too young" to be having female issues like these so he did nothing. Fast forward after three horrific miscarriages and one pregnancy to term my new OB was furious that this had been untreated. My mom failed to enlighten me - having this information of family history would have been enough to spare me four years of **ll!! My girls know everything now. I plan on reminding them and telling their future husbands so they can be of support if/when the time comes. I have a friend whose husband didn't believe her when she started having female issues because she was young :cursing: She is getting the help she needs now and her husband is very supportive. Although at mid-late 40s the cycles have ended the rest of the side affects are still alive and kicking :glare: but am grateful for my medication. :hurray: T- 172 replies

Survey Questions # 1 through # 3
dtsmamtj replied to kalphs's topic in General Education Discussion Board
2. A variety (except unschooling) - depending on the student - depending on the subject. I guess that might put me in the category of Eclectic. 3. This too depends on the student and depends on the subject. -
Spanish at home vs in a class
dtsmamtj replied to kilo90's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Does anyone have a more "affordable" option they can recommend? My son just took Spanish I through Currclick.com. I just found out that the teacher will not be teaching again next year. I think I paid just over $200 for the entire year!!! My son loved the class and did very well. She was from South America and taught conversational, verbs, grammar, etc. He really wants to do a Spanish II class that is NOT from a textbook only. T -
Is anyone watching the playoffs? Hockey that is.
dtsmamtj replied to Canadianmumof5's topic in The Chat Board
"Life will be postponed due to playoff hockey until further notice"!!!!!!! - :hurray: My 10 year old daughter hit her mouth on the scooter handle a couple of months ago - her comment when she saw that part of her tooth had been fractured off was "Look, I real hockey player now." This daughter has Down Syndrome and loves to play street hockey with her brothers!!! -
Civil Air Patrol Encampment question
dtsmamtj replied to a topic in General Education Discussion Board
We are in Oregon and my son participates in CAP. He has been to several encampments - one as a basic and then as staff for the others. There was one weekend for a rocketry event that had and issue, but that was resolved by going up the chain of command. I know there is some yelling, etc. at the encampment, but this is suppose to be a mini boot camp so to speak. My son has never said that this kind of behavior was excessive. Really sorry to hear of the horrible experiences - ( T
