  1. I'd love to see a sub-forum started on this topic! I just don't know what my next move will be and I am interested in what other SAHP are planning to do when they are "retired." I think I probably have more to offer the world than a tidy garden and imaginative cooking, but I no longer have the urge to go out and conquer the world. I don't need to work to keep the wolves from the door and my husband probably would prefer I stay home, so getting a job would be purely for my own entertainment, and I worked for 19 years, so I have been there and done that. I feel like I should feel guilty, does that make any sense? Is this just a phase that others have been through, survived and thrived? Do I need a purpose? Want a purpose? I am full of nothing but questions. My kids are still at home, but they are edging out the door rapidly. I've never not had a plan for my future before.
  2. I want to take off my big girl panties and burn them.
  3. Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. I would be equally hurt and annoyed. I would want to have an honest conversation and look him in the eye and tell him how hurtful his words are. Perhaps using conflict resolution techniques, you know, when you say X, I think X and feel X. What are you really trying to say to me? That sort of thing. But only you can say whether or not he is too big a jerk to bother with.
  5. Liking this wasn't enough. There are plenty of people more than willing to serve science, society, and themselves without earning millions. Folks being paid out of government grants are not earning what they could earn in private industry, but they are still willing to do it. Give scientists a small income and they will do drug research because they actually want to help people.
  6. Thanks Hoppy The Toad, I will do that. I am reading The Effortless Sleep Method. I am at 57% (Kindle book) so don't have an opinion yet.
  7. My husband has trouble sleeping possibly due to stress. If there are any good books on the subject, I thought I might read them and give him the "executive summary." He's stressed from work and sleeps better on vacation. He went through mindfulness meditation classes several years ago and that was helpful, but he hasn't kept up a meditation practice. Anyway, books specific to addressing sleep issues?
  8. You have asked an interesting question and I hope the smart boardies here will be able to offer you some help. My thought when reading your question is that the particular university highlighted here does not meet need down to the EFC level. Most colleges don't. Here's an article with some that claim to meet need: http://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/paying-for-college/articles/2014/09/15/colleges-and-universities-that-claim-to-meet-full-financial-need. Based on what others have written in the past, I would think that the university you have listed here is estimating that your family will have to pay $19,000, regardless of your families EFC. Sorry.
  9. Interesting, there are definitely downsides to living in a meritocracy. Would you like to expand on this point - and what do you think should be the next system adopted?
  10. I'm curious, why do you think your husband would not go without you?
  11. I hope your son gets lots of responses, you ladies helped my son last year and I was thankful.
  12. Pleaae provide your age, gender, and religious belief (if any). Then, answer the first five questions with either a yes or no. You may give a brief answer (not yes or no) to the sixth question. Below are the questions: Age 51; gender - female, non-religious 1. Do you believe that the government should be responsible for fixing the rising cost of healthcare? Yes, quite obviously this has been successfully done in many other countries. I am not so cynical that I believe Americans to be so uniquely stupid that we cannot do likewise. 2. Do you believe that the government has the responsibility to pay for all 18-24 year old American citizens to receive a college education? No, but it would be in the best interest of the country to do so. 3. Do you believe the war in Iraq was justified? No! 4. Do you believe that the welfare system is a good idea? Yes! Anyone who doesn't lacks both compassion and imagination. Any of us who possess less than multimillionaires could find ourselves in need of assistance. Anyone could have a child who is mentally incapable of caring for themselves. 5. Do you believe illegal immigrants should be allowed amnesty in the US? No. 6. What do you believe is the biggest issue our government faces today? Long term it is the rise of the robotic workforce. Many, if not most, workers will be displaced. We will need to completely re-think our economy, re-think capitalism. People will need to acquire their sense of self worth through something other than working. Like This Quote MultiQuote
  13. Clark Howard mentioned two websites today for cheaper textbooks: Tun.com and Slugbooks.com Just an fyi Azalea
  14. I don't remember if this has already been mentioned in this thread, but another weird thing in the Bible is calling menstruating women "unclean" and stating that they must be sent away while menstruating. As an introvert, a private place I could go to for a few days a month sounds pretty good to me. In stressful times, I have told my husband, "I want my menstrual hut!" He says I can have my hut, if he can use it the rest of the month! It occurs to me that I probably first heard about menstrual huts on WTM, thanks for the laughs.
  15. It would depend on whether I committed evil as a mentally well person or (dangerously) mentally ill person. If I was psychotic it would be because God chose to make me psychotic. Another example of an evil act committed by God. God killed all the firstborn of Egypt, why was that not an evil act? Please don't respond with anything about Pharaoh. Women in Egypt didn't deserve to lose a son because something Pharaoh did.
  16. But you worship a God that created everything. Every type of sin, every natural catastrophe, every disease, everything type of evil. I'm sure he's thinking up more kinds of evil as I type. Therefore, you worship an evil God.
  17. Thank you so much for this information! Very helpful.
  18. Wow! Kids will have to wait up to three months for their results? I hope they re-think that decision.
  19. Khan Academy has a full length practice test for the new SAT. It says that it will provide raw scores, not the 400 - 1600 score that the real test will provide. Does anyone know how to convert the raw score to the 400 - 1600 scale?
  20. Wow. You should revise this to be a good site for many graduate programs!!!!! I just looked for physical therapy, very interesting!
