  1. The Toyota Center in Houston is a big arena style, so all seated; of course, people around him may stand, so he may want to try to get front row of whichever section in whichever venue, so that his view isn't blocked by the folks in front of him standing up. Also in that case, I'd avoid the floor sections unless he can spring for true front row, b/c again, standing. But one level up, two levels up, etc., on the sides will still be a good view, just get the front of that section so his view isn't blocked. I believe the Austin and Dallas locations are similar style venues, though I can't be certain. But the Toyota Center is where the NBA Basketball games are held, so it's that style of venue, arena seating.
  2. Cookies just because is a great plan. Home from STEAM Night - it was so fun! I'm so glad I went. Watching Grey's Anatomy, while DH is on his way home from a baseball game.
  3. had a nap got the laundry folded did some more quilting stuff while I watched TV heading to the store for chalk/pastels and then to STEAM night
  4. y'all, I just typed up my notes on the kid I had to ask to w/draw....putting it all on paper is crazy. I had no idea things had been *so much* of a problem, and just how much I'd done to try to make it work. Wowsa. (still hate having to do it, but definitely the right call)
  5. Well, the printer is rebelling so ordered the next color ink (which I'm not trying to use, but...) Loaded the school bag - luckily I have next week ready for K/1st already, have tomorrow ready for 2nd grade, and will resume school prep on Thurs when the print cartridges get here Made a lesson plan for the eclipse week going to fold clothes, etc.
  6. decided on a plan for the eclipse - found some fun crafts, I already have some fun educational things, and I think that will all work together to make a fun day for my kiddos. Now to get things ready...
  7. Praying for your mom; I'm sorry it's still such rough going for her! And for your DH's job to be better than expected; glad he found something!
  8. I am so sorry; praying all are okay. So grateful your DD had her phone and you were able to get her home safely!
  9. Oh, @ScoutTN - thank you for reminding us that the anniversary is approaching this week; praying for your church, the school, the families, and all of you. (and why don't we have a better word for "the date occurring again after a horrible thing" instead of the same word for when we are celebrating?). Amy, yes, it's only Tuesday! 🙂 We are home from the tournament -- DH did *GREAT* -- he came in Top 16 (13th) out of 50-something in the hardest event he had (Div 1A), but then fenced poorly the next day in his "easy" event (Div 2) so didn't do well in that one. He was tired, sore, and just could not get his head in the game. (his words) but his fencing on the first day was amazing, and I think a good encourager/confidence boost for him. I fenced well, for me. I realized that I *love* fencing at tournaments....but I do *not* love competing....I'd had those things in my head as all one thing, but I realized I can indeed fence at tournaments, without *competing* in them (I hope that makes sense...it's all a mindset thing) -- that was a good realization for me. Anyway, long-winded today! Sorry about that!! My list: ...coffee ...make some notes in case a parent calls -- I had to ask a parent to w/draw their kid from my class yesterday -- they said they understand, and would like to call to discuss it (I hate having to have done it, but I just can't meet the needs of this student) ...fold & put away laundry ...work on school prep for week after next (Eclipse week) ...decide if we're going to do something really special, or just a little special, for the eclipse (at school; the family may drive to totality w/o me) ...get some quilting stuff done if there's time after the school prep stuff ...figure out who's doing dinner, me or DH ...cook/prep dinner if needed DH is making soup, so I'm off the hook tonight ...go to STEAM Night at our co-op tonight -- I skipped it once and the kids *still* ask me about that ...come home, veg out/watch TV ...go to bed Have a good day you guys!
  10. Gosh...what a fun thread! ER Gilmore Girls Grey's Anatomy Friends Seinfeld Big Bang Theory Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (until the last season, which wasn't as good) This is Us Firefly Lost Currently, we also love Ghost, many of the Disney/Star Wars shows, and Amazing Race is for sure a favorite.
  11. So, I can't tell from the pics how big it is, but some thoughts: -do wash it and then hang - it will kind of tighten everything up. Use a color-fast detergent like synthropol, OR use your normal detergent, on cold, with plenty of color catcher sheets so it takes care of any bleeding. (Shout is one brand, they are in the laundry aisle in a little box) -once you wash it, dry it in the dryer - letting it sit wet is actually what leads to more bleeding, so drying it immediately will help with that, and then that's of course what tightens it up -if that doesn't kind of take care of the waviness - which it may not, b/c it looks like the middle is quilted differently than the border - then yes, ironing the border out/the quilt out will help it kind of straighten up. -I can't tell how you have it hung (looks like with one of those hanging bars that grip the quilt?), but if all of this doesn't work, then yes, blocking can work; I haven't ever had to do it, but I don't know that I've hung a quilt that large -- well, one over my bed, but it's vintage, well loved/washed, and has a scalloped edge, so is hanging pretty well and the scalloped edge means you don't notice. BUT, I know plenty of people have had great success with blocking. It's a gorgeous quilt! I'm so glad you've got it on display!
  12. napped, eating lunch, gathering snacks for the car/weekend, and heading out - have a great weekend all!
  13. filled out (late) my March Madness bracket -- DH & I fill them out just for fun; we have avoided the news so were able to fill them out today w/o cheating. Packed the fencing bag Packed my clothes/toiletries for the trip Grabbing breakfast and then will head out
  14. They do it because they are afraid for/worried for their kid's futures. It isn't some horrible anti-music bent, it's just parents worried about how their kiddo will support themselves, particularly those who want a daughter to be independent and not need to rely on a husband, or those who are parents of a son who are imagining into the future how their child will one day support a family on the salary of a music teacher. It comes from a good, honest place of parents just being concerned for the future of these humans they've raised and guided. They may, or may not, get there one day to realizing that sometimes money shouldn't be the only/main concern, but it's really not mean-spirited or because of a lack of valuing music as a valid field (just from a place of acknowledging that music is not a *money-making* field, which it's generally not).
  15. Good morning! Today we leave for Dallas, for a weekend fencing tournament. This one will determine whether or not I need to later on fence the "Divisional Qualifier" to see if I qualify to fence at Nationals. We shall see. Hopefully it will be a fun tournament (should be), and hopefully I also will do well (we'll see). Fingers crossed! So, today's list: ...coffee ...pack ...wash/dry fencing gear (currently in dryer) ...go do my Friday morning stuff/tutoring/gig/thing ....come home, eat lunch, nap? ....load car, make sure kids are all set, head to Dallas Have a great day/great weekend, all! Hopefully I'll have good news when I check back in on Tuesday!
  16. Did the tutoring - mom is *very* pregnant, so we'll see when I get interrupted for "oops, the baby's here!"; in the meantime, moved next Tues to Weds b/c I have a thing on Tues night that starts at 5:30, not 6:30 like I thought Waiting on dinner and then fencing, etc. - one more round of storms tonight. yay.
  17. Got all of K & 1st printed for the following week; printed the assignment sheet for 2nd but pausing there, I need to gather things and figure out what I'm doing first. that's today's list, so going to veg out/watch TV till time to go tutor
  18. Took care of some electronic chores -- our co-op switched to an electronic system for registration, payments, etc. which seemed great at first (it's much easier for the parents and the registrar) but I've discovered some gaps/flaws/things it's not good at keeping track of, so creating some files for my personal record keeping for next year - I've got 5 students so far between the 3 classes, plus 1-3 for an extra class I'm doing on my own. About on par for this time of year! Put away the laundry as well Now time to tackle the actual list....
  19. Prayers for today to be better, Chris. I'm sorry yesterday was more bad than good.
  20. Good morning! Today I have: ...coffee ...load bag for next week ...school prep ahead for K, 1st, 2nd ...put away the laundry that was folded on Tues and left in a basket (my fault) ...remember to put dinner in the crockpot on time (DH prepped it, but it only needs a bit to cook; he'll be gone when it's time to put it in) ...make sure I have some things to do with the kids today at tutoring ...make sure DS knows what all he needs to work on this weekend (DH & I leave tomorrow for a weekend tournament in Dallas) ...somewhere in there, get a nap ...go tutor ...come home, eat dinner, go to fencing ...come home, go to bed
  21. got my tutoring stuff printed, then mom texted to ask could we move it to tomorrow - yes, sure will work on some quilt stuff instead then
  22. Did the PreK - we picked the April date, and will set the rest after that; it went really well DS is on top of things, and came down to tell me he's taking his psychology exam, so that's good, hopefully he does well Took a long nap Grabbing a snack and will fold clothes/prep for tutoring - the printer is being wonky, so hopefully I don't need to print much
  23. Good morning! today I have: ....coffee ....make sure I have everything ready for the PreK kid -- today we drop to once/month to finish out the year/summer, which I"m happy about ....make sure I have the stuff for tutoring this afternoon ....fold laundry ....work some more on quilt stuff ....go do PreK this morning ....go do tutoring this afternoon ....DH is cooking dinner -- chicken legs & ?? ....make sure DS takes his psychology exam ...check in on Grandma, Mom (phone/text) ....not sure what else....eat dinner, veg out, etc. I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting, but....
  24. Ran errands with DH -- the tool I got to speed the de-lettering worked!! yay!!! I'm almost half done, in roughly the same amount of time I spent yesterday removing one word! Whew!!! Also got frames for all the things, and got those put on; we'll work on hanging them this weekend. dinner is cooking, and tonight we'll veg out. Not sure if that will be movies or games or what.
  25. Hooray for the good hockey fit! Happy early birthday Scout; sorry your present is the car a/c repair (those years are so blah) - hopefully you can get some small little pick-me-up, even if it's just a fun coffee on the day of. Took a short nap, and had a brainstorm that may help me speed up the de-lettering of the quilt. Grabbing a bite, and will head out & about with DH shortly to pick that up, shop for frames, and then tag along while he does some stuff. I'll bring the quilt to work on in the car (if the new thing works, it could be done by the time we get home, or even by the time we get where we're going).
