  1. I use NKJV, my oldest (17) uses NKJV, and the younger two (14 and 11) use NIV.
  2. MUS is mastery-based...you can't just skip to a higher level. You CAN, however, work at your daughter's pace. If she gets the lesson and can teach it back to you, have her complete worksheet A, & the first review worksheet (D -- I think) and then the test. And then move on...
  3. My dh is an IT "geek" and he uses Adaware as a first try for customers' computers that come in with issues. He then follows up with an antivirus program like Vipre and sets it up to scan automatically.
  4. Try putting some moth balls around the area where they are "camping". ;) The smell usually makes them move out...
  5. Art Reed DVDs cover calculator use in his Saxon Algebra 2 series. Most calculators come with a User's Guide and we found that to be pretty helpful.
  6. Nothing but EXCELLENT customer service experience here. I've ordered from them 3 times without an issue. Is it possible that things were delayed because of snowstorms/bad weather? I can't remember where AAS is located...but the weather has delayed things in our area.
  7. :grouphug: I've never had twins -- but I did homeschool with a 10 yo, 6 yo, 2 yo and two infants that I watched. A schedule is your friend...get those babies/toddlers on a schedule = PRONTO! Don't allow them to ruin the house...buy a gate (or two, three -- however many you need to keep them contained) and give them toys/activities to do while you school. Also seconding (or thirding) more independent curriculum -- group "classes" never worked for us.
  8. Just wanted to add that this is my plan for my 14 year old. My 17 year old was quite a bit different: History - TOG Science - Apologia Grammar - Sandi Queen's Language Lessons Literature/Writing - TOG Vocab - Vocabulary from Classical Roots American Sign Language Art - TOG Music - piano Bible - Word of Life Quiet Time Diary & TOG Dual enrollment at community college - senior year
  9. :iagree: -- my daughter took a Nanny position last August. The Mom didn't really have "clear cut" plans and it has been very difficult for my daughter to work with the children. Also, a Nanny would want to know if any of your children struggle in a particular area. :grouphug:
  10. Math - Saxon History - Notgrass Science - Apologia Grammar - Easy Grammar Ultimate Literature/Writing - Notgrass Vocab - Vocabulary from Classical Roots Spanish - Rosetta Stone Art - God and the History of Art Music - piano Bible - Word of Life Quiet Time Diary & Notgrass
  11. Just wanted to "pop in" and say that I spoke with Art Reed on the phone yesterday. (I purchased his DVD series for Algebra 1/2.) His advice was to start testing with Test 1. The parent should score the test like "Atilla the Hun" (his exact words) -- meaning no partial credit for forgetting to reduce fractions, etc. Review the missed problems. In a day or two, do Test 2...and so on until the student scores less than 80%. This is the point at which you start in Saxon. He was WONDERFUL!! You can call or email any time with questions, concerns, etc. and he answers each and every one in person within 24 hours.
  12. Well, I can tell you what DIDN'T work: -My oldest is currently working through MUS Algebra 2. (We won't repeat this with the two younger children.) Our game plan for the younger two: -I spoke with Art Reed (Saxon) on the phone yesterday. We will be going with the older, hardback Saxon texts and Art Reed's DVD series. He said that a student that completes up through the first 1/2 of Advanced Mathematics can "ace" any standardized test and would have no problem being accepted at Stanford.
  13. :iagree: with all of the previous posts...it's very sad that this is the state of our public schools. My oldest is seeing this "attitude" played out in her community college classes. (She is the youngest student in both classes...and so far has the highest GPA.) They just don't have the skills to succeed...and many do not care. :001_huh:
  14. :iagree: My 2 oldest tolerated the elementary books...I wouldn't say they liked them. They both really enjoyed the high school level books. My youngest despises the elementary books...I haven't decided what we're going to do next.
  15. My 14 year old is :001_wub: over your new addition. She has been horse crazy since birth...well...almost. LOL
  16. I had the same reaction... ;) My husband and I became concerned about the "ease" with which our children were flying through the program. It just seemed too "easy"...they weren't being challenged and as I've already noted, it didn't seem to teach the same concepts as other programs. We want to make sure that we are adequately preparing our children for the future and it just seemed like the right time to make a change. Does that help??
  17. It *did* have a warranty...BUT when the dealer has it at the shop more than I have it and I don't have a "loaner", there's a problem!! :glare: We made them take it back...
