  1. No kidding! And in pts. of California, that still can't buy you a home! If you don't like it stay home and cook. Servers btw is the correct term. Waitress or waiter is similar to stewardess.
  2. I love the Leslie Sansone Walking videos. You can get them for $8.00 or so at Target or Wal-Mart. They are indoor walking videos, but with extra stuff so you won't get bored easily. I like the 4 mile tape, and I generally walk 2 miles (which takes about 28 minutes). :-). Great tape for those of us with limited motivation to exercise, too! She uses a resistance band in some of the tapes.
  3. Thank you. Tuscaloosa is still wrecked in some parts. My daughter (10) hates to go to certain places because of the devastation in them. We were 4 miles away from any damage, and thank God for that! This town, and state, certainly welcomes something to celebrate. Especially since Alabama Player, Carson Tinker, lost his girlfriend in the storm. He was holding her when it hit...I cannot imagine!
  4. You silly girl. It is part of our homeschooling curriculum materials. TP 101. We also debate whether we should fold or wad our toilet paper prior to use.
  5. WendilouBoowho? Just repeat Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer...... about 2999 times. It may help your trash talkin' wound
  6. My cholesterol was 227 at my last appointment. I started on an over the counter medicine Cholest-Off by Nature Made and added Metamucil to my diet 2x a day. I just got my new bloodwork back and it is down to 198. Not bad for 3 months of adding few pills a day and some Metamucil.
  7. I actually kept my head shaved for two years in my early 30s. I loved the freedom and thought it was quite sexy. However, when I moved to Alabama, people kept coming up to me consoling me about having cancer.:001_huh: After the 50th stranger approached me about his or her cancer story, and I had to explain I was not in treatment, I let it grow out. :D
  8. Did you have the right brush? There really are "right" brushes for blow drying and Paul Mitchell Skinny Serum is awesome for sleek, non - poofy styles. I use a flat iron when I want extra sleek form, but even then, it is a 30 second job!
  9. Perhaps I was destined to be! I have the entire MAC Villains collection of makeup unopened. I just can't bear to use something so beautiful! Luckily, since I make more than DH, he doesn't dare say a word. :D. Actually, he has a shoe obsession, so his hobby is far more expensive than mine!
  10. I'll bet I'm the only one who has over 400 bottles of nail polish. I am addicted and can't stop myself from buying polishes simply because I love their names, or unique shades. I buy glitter and flaky polishes just because I think they are lovely, even though I never wear anything but cremes and jellies. I love everything from Chanel and Butter London down to OPI, Essie, and even Sally Hansen and Wet and Wild (sometimes the cheap polishes are better than the expensive ones). I once spent $95.00 on a bottle of polish just so I could have the "conquest" on ebay.
  11. I adore the Ft. Walton, Destin beach areas of Florida. Panama City is way too commericalized, though there are lovely small pockets between Destin and Panama City. Vrbo.com has great information and deal on condos. We generally stay in San Destin properties because once there, we never need a car~:auto:. A shuttle runs internally on property, and many condos supply bikes.
  12. two words for you : Rooooooooooll TIDE!
  13. Our chow has very serious allergies. We alternate Canidae and Wellness.
  14. When it is a meal, we do some meats...like diced ham or turkey with swiss cheese or hardboiled eggs and bacon bits. We love baked chicken fingers and almonds with honey mustard dressing. Taco salad as a meal is always a big hit here, too. Oftentimes I will pick up a funky new dressing and work backward, for instance, what goes with a raspberry balsamic vinaigrette? Citrus food and sliced pork! We never eat iceberg lettuce; it is always a spring mix, romaine, or spinach.
  15. I would wear a cocktail dress and hope my DH would wear a nice suit with a fabulous tie. I see theater, opera, and symphony dates as a chance to break out our very best. I use blingy accessories and a beautiful clutch...just so I feel that those items get some use! Unlike the PP, I wouldn't wear my church clothes, which are more subdued. I want to be dressed-up. That said, you will see all levels of attire from business casual to semi-formal.
  16. I am somewhat comforted to know that this error is an issue of education and not locale. I never thought about pronunciation contributing to the error, but in fact, it does make sense. Many of my friends here pronounce email as "e-mell" and they will go to the mill, "meal." I've been on Craigslist a great deal lately and it has really stuck out, along with chester drawers and chase lounge. :D
  17. It drives me batty. It is as if craigslist posters purposely reverse the two just to irritate me.
  18. I have a chow, but I know that no matter how well-bred and loved, there are always dangers with a dog. A pit bull, at least without going through a top-notch breeder, could be very risky. I don't hold it against the breed, but bad breeders. We also found a dog through a rescue, he is part lab, part who knows :-), and he is the BEST dog we have ever, ever had. He was in someone's home for 2 months as a foster dog before we adopted him. I would truly look at only top notch breeders for any dog, or a pound/rescue. Mixed breed dogs are often the most intelligent and easy to train.
  19. Gender Trouble is her most notable book. It is hard to muddle through, at first. But if you stick with it, the ideas are profound. Even if you disagree with Butler, you will have a much better understanding of the history and factions within feminist thought.
  20. Well, you ought to read on third wave feminism, which encompasses many of your thoughts. It argues that we need to be sensitive to fluid nature of gender and recognize the social constructions that exist with and apart from biological imperatives. Judith Butler is dense, but enlightening!
  21. Though I applaud the thought, we need words to describe ideologies. We need to understand how people think and what beliefs are salient to them. That is like saying, "Why do I need to be called a Christian, Athiest, or Muslim? I just want to be known for my beliefs." We use labels to help make sense of our world.
  22. We have Cubby (Chicago Cubs) and Tiki (Tiki Barber). Boy, do I wish I could change Tiki's name! He was going to be Manny (for Manny Ramirez, which may have been worse!)
