  1. I want someone to do laundry and read bedtime stories to me....preferably in a James Earl Jones voice, LOL
  2. I always tip 20% b/c my stylist is fabulous! She owns the shop, but I don't think here anyone follows that rule. She happily takes it, and I always get a fabulous, trendy cut!
  3. Stuffed Baked potatoes with whatever leftovers (bbq, pot roast, etc) or veggies and cheese we have. If the potatoes are small, big people get 2. And, Panini. We use whatever bread or buns we have and brush them with garlic and olive oil, and fill them with any lunchmeat, cheeses, etc... Delish...:D
  4. Just an FYI, spaz medically refers to the spastic muscles that are associated with cerebral palsy.
  5. are the three things my daughter is wild about right now. I always love giving books, and my daughter loves getting them! You could always go with a CD of Hannah Montana or other tween-girl band...lots of girls that age love to belt one out, LOL. As for toys, sadly Barbie and American Girl rule the roost here. Good luck!
  6. So much depends on the field, the advisor, and the University. I did mine at Purdue in Communication. It was 3 years of coursework, 6 mos. of comp studying, then 2 years of diss. work. My DH is in the same field, but did his work at another institution; his comps were the same, but the dissertation was more like an article than a book and only took 6 mos.
  7. Love all the wonderful ideas! Thank you. I'll take pics as I pull all of our items together.
  8. Ph.D. in Communication Studies and would love to get a sabbatical so I could start Law School. I can't imagine not "being in" school in some form or another.
  9. Ah, food storage and composting -- I would have NEVER thought of those...thanks :-). Please keep the ideas coming :-)
  10. Johnny Quest, Speed Racer, and though not animated HR Puff N Stuff and Land of the Lost!
  11. I am trying to put together a gift basket for my church -- each group has a "theme" and ours is Go-Green and everyone has to contribute. What ideas can I give my group. I'm awful at this - other than CFLs and Simple Green cleaner, LOL.
  12. Thank you! I'll ask if either of these suit him :o. He wants to do this so badly....
  13. We need to build an erupting volcano, and my son doesn't want to do the standard paper mache version. Any more interesting and creative versions?
  14. Oh, since we love the first, I'm hoping the second will really knock our socks off! My kids haven't been this enthralled, together, in a long, long time! And, I'll definitely check out your rec!
  15. they love doing brain work! It's amazing how easy it is to make learning fun at home.
  16. from the Ezboard when I used to post there, before I had to curb my own internet addiction. I'm Carol, mom of Jonah (9 almost 10), Maren (6), and Archie (5). We afterschool because our current schools cannot and will not meet each of their individual needs. Jonah is gifted, and has been bored in school since kindy at a parochial school. Maren has a diagnosis of Trisomy 21 and is keeping up perfectly in a typical K parochial classroom, as long as we do some preparatory work at home. And Archie will start K this year, and has an insatiable appetite to learn. So, sadly, we are leaving Catholic schools and try our public school next year, with an IEP for gifted in place for Jonah, and one with minor modifications for his baby sister. We'll see where Archie leads us. In the meantime, we read voraciously, and tackle subject in more depth and more richness at home :-).
  17. for kids of various ages. My 5, 6, and 10 year old (2 boys, 1 girl) are all begging for more. And, it is so creative that it provides us great discussions about how we can alter and create new stories from classics. I'm sure most of you have read it, or your children have, but this is a new family favorite here and I think we'll read all of them aloud :D:D p.s. I occasionally posted on the old forums as Carol (momof3)
