  1. This week's recipe is Orange Chicken and Sweet Potatoes. Bon Appetit! :) Orange Chicken and Sweet Potatoes 3 sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced 5 boneless chicken breasts 2/3 cup flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon dash of pepper dash of garlic powder 1 (10 3/4 oz) cream of celery soup 2 (4 oz) cans of mushroom stems/pieces 1/2 cup of Tang 1/2 teaspoon orange peel 2 tablespoons brown sugar 3 tablespoons flour Spray crockpot with non-stick cooking spray. Place sweet potatoes in the bottom of crockpot. Rinse chicken breasts and pat dry. Combine flour, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper and garlic powder. Thoroughly coat chicken in flour mixture. Place on top of sweet potatoes. Combine soup with remaining ingrediants. Stir well and cover. Cook on low 8-10 hours or on high 3-4 hours.

  5. Something you might want to try is only doing half a lesson at a time. Take your time, as you are building a firm foundation for your child. Add board games and card games which teach mathematical concepts. :)

  7. Good point! From what Dh and I noticed the WTM assigns the stages of the trivium to coincide with the age/grade levels in the public/private schools. On the other hand in Dorothy Sayers essay "The Lost Tools of Learning" http://www.gbt.org/text/sayers.html stages of the trivium are spoken of as phases of learning. Dh and I view the trivium as a "developemental process." Each individual is different and will progress through the trivium at their own pace. :)

This week's recipe is...So You Forgot to Defrost Bon Appetit! :) 6 boneless, skinless frozen chicken breast halves 2 (10 3/4) cans cream of chicken soup 2 (4 oz) cans mushroom stems and pieces 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper Place frozen chicken in slow cooker. Mix together soup, mushrooms, salt, and pepper. Pour mixture over chicken. Cover. Cook on low 10-12 hours. Serve over hot rice.
  9. Here is one of our favorites. Bon Appetit! :) Scalloped Chicken Supreme 2 cups cooked rice 3 cups cooked chicken, cubed 3 cups gravy 1/2 cup of slivered almonds 2 tablespoons chopped pimento 1 can of mushroom stems/pieces 2 cups buttered bread crumbs Gravy 6 tablespoons fat (I use butter) 6 tablespoons flour 3 cups of liquid (water, boullion cup broth or milk) Add fat to saucepan and melt over low heat. Add flour, stirring until smooth. Cook over low heat until it is bubbly/brown. Stir in liquid, taking the pan off heat to avoid lumps. Return pan to heat, stirring constantly. Boil 1 minute. Season and serve. Place alternate layers in a 9x13 pan of rice, chicken and gravy. Sprinkle almonds, pimentos and mushrooms over each layer. Top with buttered bread crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
  10. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: I emphathize with you. We are having similar issues with family. Dh and I came to the conclusion we can not change the family and their issues. Nor do we want to expose our family to the issues. We have chosen to celebrate the holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter etc..) in our own home. :)
  11. This week's crockpot recipe is beefstew. Bon Appetit! :) Beef Stew 2 pounds of beef stew meat, cut in 1 inch cubes 1/4 cup flour 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1 1/2 cups beef broth 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce 1 clove garlic 1 bay leaf 1 teaspoon paprika 4 carrots, sliced 3 potatoes, diced 2 onions, chopped 1 stalk of celery, sliced 2 teaspoons Kitchen Bouquet Place meat in the crockpot. Mix flour, salt and pepper, and pour over meat; stir to coat meat with flour. Add remaining ingredients, and stir to mix well. Cover and cook on low 10-12 hours or high 4-6 hours. Stir stew thoroughly before serving. Remove bay leaf before serving.
  12. I read the book "A Thomas Jefferson Education." DeMille's bullet points resonate with other books I have read on the topic of education. The phrase which I would use to sum up the book is, "there is nothing new under the sun." :)
  13. All will turn out well. It will be the event of the year. :) When my childhood friend got married, she chose a to wear a black evening gown in lieu of the traditional white or ivory gown.

  17. This is an easy recipe to take to holiday get togethers. Bon Appetit! :) Lil Smoky Appetizers 2-3 packages of Lil Smokies 1 bottle of Original Kraft BBQ Sauce 1 cup (packed) dark brown sugar 2 Tablespoons Southern Comfort Spray Crockpot with nonstick cooking spray. Add Lil Smokies, bbq sauce, brown sugar and Southern Comfort. Cook on low 8-10 hours or on high 4-6 hours, stirring occassionally.

  19. Dh is the primary teacher for American History. It was his favorite subject in school and he loves teaching it. Dh and I work as a team for the rest of the core subjects. We play off of each other's strengths. :)
  20. Dd had similar experience when we were reading CHOW. The King Tut exhibit came to the area, which enhanced our studies. :)
