  1. Could someone point me in the direction of the "Fun" Shakespeare that has been mentioned around here before? (Shakespeare written as the way someone else talks? I don't really know.) Also, if you have used it, do you think it would work for a small Literature class (grades 6-7) at a co-op? Thanks!
  2. Bake with olive oil and a little bit of spice. This is one of our family favorites and it is so easy!
  3. cross-posted: We switched to CLE for LA last year. This year my son is doing level 7. It's thorough, challenging, and I feel like we are becoming masters at dissecting sentences. It's also very tedious and eats up a lot of time. I am committed to getting through it this year, but next year I feel like I need more time for Literature and Writing. So, where do you go after LA7? If you continued on with Level 8, what did you do (or what do you plan to do) for High School? I went to a private high school and took honor's classes, and I never had this much grammar instruction. I think it's wonderful to get such a solid foundation, but I think we are going to need to move on next year. Thanks!

  6. My kids are sensitive and they were fine with it. I remember being concerned about the reviews too.
  7. Ok, I'm watching it and I don't think it is that bad. (I always thought the original muppets were a bit "adult.") I haven't actually laughed yet though, so I don't know if I will watch it again. I always thought that Miss Piggy treated Kermit horribly. They never made sense to me. I'm not heartbroken that they broke up.
  8. Oh my. Did anyone like it? How depressing that they brought the Muppets back only to have the show be horrible. I haven't seen it yet. I may try to watch it on Hulu tonight.
  9. Have you ever been in a group of women where everyone helps to keep an eye on whoever is closest to them? This is what I mean. Of course the child is the mother's responsibility. I do think that the other women can help lovingly correct the child though.
  10. Two toddlers.. and the youngest one is 14 months? That is a hard age. The mom might be hoping that the group will help her keep an eye on her ever-wandering & striking toddler. I would correct and redirect the child, and I would mention something to the mom about it, but I would be gentle and gracious.
  11. This thread makes me feel better about my life. It's not just me. Why am I the only one who can smell a dirty diaper?
  12. Yup. I have had to be very direct about asking my kids to stop talking to me at times. It sounds awful, but I can't handle the chatter. I also discovered the other day that I don't mind ironing as much anymore. I am alone in my room and it is quiet. It's not so bad....
  13. I'm the same way. It is always a sad day.
  14. For our surprise baby #4 - I waited until I was almost through the first trimester and then messaged my family members with a picture of my 3 kids holding the ultrasound picture. I didn't need any negative comments, and I thought it would benefit everyone to have a little time to process before talking to me. It worked out well. Congratulations!! :hurray: Babies are blessings!! I am excited for you! :thumbup1:
  15. When I first read this I thought it said "Hug a Horse". Then I read it again.
  16. :banghead: My son has wasted hours today looking for a calculator. He needs a calculator to complete a section of his math. His sisters also joined in the hunt. They never found it. I was dealing with a separate crisis and I have no idea if anyone has gotten any school work done today. This lost calculator thing makes me feel absolutely crazy because it is such a common occurrence around here. What systems do you have in place for dealing with this type of stuff? Thanks!
  17. We get donuts, take pictures, and fill out a 'first day of school' paper.
  18. http://jenwilkin.podbean.com Jen Wilkin's studies are really great. Her teaching is phenomenal, and the studies are very detailed and challenging. And, she shares them for free online.
  19. I like the colors on the first one and I think the quotes on the bottom are cute. It's really about which one you prefer though. :)
  20. When I was growing up my parents were absolutely clueless about introverts/extroverts. And, during the first several years of my marriage my husband was convinced that there was something wrong with me because I was not like him. :glare:
  21. You do your best. Find independent curriculum, plan the major subjects, and relax on the rest. :grouphug: Maybe get some chocolate, go for a walk, have some time to yourself. We started again this week, and my overwhelming thought by day 2 was "Homeschooling (with a toddler) is stupid." This is definitely a challenging task we have taken on. I believe that God has led our family to it though, and He will work His purpose through it.
