  1. I just got this idea to get dd a charm bracelet and have an official first day of the new school year. Anyone know of any really cute homeschool charms? She is five so something for a young girl.
  2. Is everyone still progressing? I finished through Numbers 8 today. I am really learning a lot and looking forward to my readings now.
  3. :grouphug: to your daughter.
  4. I haven't bought one but have thought about James Avery. Pandora is pretty, but I kind of like the traditional charms. Pandora charms don't fit most others, and I can't speak for anything else.
  5. How about the book Boundaries? Sounds appropriate to read and it is written from a Christian perspective.
  6. I've read a couple of Janet Evonovich's books and my mom who is just now reading her first one has been laughing her head off.
  7. I didn't get all my reading done for the day yet. I still have 1 more chapter to go. This morning took longer and I don't know if it was because it was a longer section or because I ended up reading a lot of it out loud to dd since she got up early. In reading numbers, just trying to wrap my head around 603,550 men over 20, and an additional 22,000 males 1 month and up from the Levites from the descendants of Jacob (Israel). It seems like such a short time since Jacob. Dd asked what barley is, and I pulled it up and showed her the computer and told her we could try to make something with it. Does anyone have an good recipes that use barley?
  8. :grouphug: and prayers for your MIL. Be safe traveling.
  9. We backpacked some in college 20 years ago and I really enjoyed it, some of it on the AT. I have never been for more than about 4 days. I have been pretty overweight for a long time now and am working on loosing it (28 lbs so far since Feb.) I want to be able to backpack and do lots of other things with my dd, so I have been pretty motivated. I have gone through spell where I get into bike riding anywhere from 4-13 miles a day. I need to loose more weight before I get into walking long distances due to trouble with my knee. I am hoping that taking the weight off will improve that. I hope you have a great time and I will be following your journal.
  10. How did you start out preparing physically. I read your journal entry and by that time you were already in really good shape for hiking.
  11. It was a nice quiet morning reading this morning and I am almost through Leviticus. Tomorrow will be one more chapter in Leviticus and then on to numbers. How is everyone else doing?
  12. I understand fully what you are saying, I just was dumbfounded that Aaron was part of this in particular. We are all sinners and we all fall short of the glory of God.
  13. My thoughts on the end of Exodus and the beginning of Leviticus... Why on earth did Aaron suggest making a golden calf when the people came to him saying they wanted Gods to worship when Moses was gone to long on the mountain? Aaron had been by his side the whole time Moses and Pharaoh were going back and forth. He knew that God was there and real, at least I assume he did. He and his sons became the priests. From Exodus 32:14 God repented of his anger towards the Israelites when Moses reminded him of his promise to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I also heard repentance was turning away from what you were doing and usually associated with asking God's forgiveness. Just an observation I found interesting. God wasn't sinning, he was just turning away from his anger. In Exodus 32:22 Aaron blames the Israelites for him building the golden calf, just as Adam blamed Eve for eating the fruit. Aaron could have said no. It was interesting that there were so many kinds of offerings discussed in Leviticus...sin offerings, trespass offerings, meat offerings, peace offerings, wave offerings and heave offerings. Am I correct that the Jews don't sacrifice today because there is no tabernacle at this time and therefore no place that is holy to do the sacrifices?
  14. How did everyone do today? I finished reading this morning and will post my thoughts tomorrow.
  15. Fried spam and ketch sandwiches, yum...other than I am no carbing it right now, so the bread is out.
  16. Meat, veggies, fruit, rice, etc. Use simple seasons not mixed.
  17. We have plenty and we both still worry about tomorrow. Some of the current worry is coming from the probability of dh's project being complete in another month and kind of being back in limbo as to what is next. This time a lot of our connections are out of work and no one has any leads on open jobs. We can get by for a long time if we have too, but that isn't where we want to be. We want to be in control instead of letting God provide. We both plan things to death.
  18. Just finished reading through Exodus 28...it was hard to keep my eyes from glassing over the detailed descriptions of the ark, tabernacle and clothing for Aaron and his son's, but I made it. One thing that really stood out is that God will provide. He provided for the Israelites whenever they needed food or water. The state of our economy has been bothering me and dh a lot lately. We see lots of signs that things are getting worse not better...it is good to step back and remember that God will provide.
  19. If it looks like a real possibility I will contact you. Thank you.
  20. Thank you Lanny, I am e-mailing this stuff to my dh.
  21. I finished the Israelites crossing the Red Sea this morning. Thank you Slache for starting this. I set a goal at the beginning of the year to get a better grasp of biblical history. This is a big step in that direction. Reading for an hour or so a day has really cut down on the time that I was wasting playing on the internet.
  22. I would guess 6 months to a year and we don't know yet how much help they would be. They are opening an office and dh isn't even sure yet if they have something he would be able to do over there yet. He is going to talk to his boss this week.
  23. We are not looking for a permanent move, dh has been doing contract and expects to continue. The area we are discussing right now is a large city in India. I am thinking a couple of suitcases and maybe shipping a couple of boxes if needed.
  24. Dh is once again talking about the possibility of working overseas. Let's start at for a year for discussion purposes. There are lots of unknowns and we don't yet know how likely it is to happen. So this is just the beginning of thinking about possibilities. What do you take with you? I am thinking clothing, computer stuff, camera, small box of favorite toys. If you buy kindle books and load them, will they go with you or how does that work? Any other suggestions would be helpful.
  25. I was already starting to come to that conclusion. I will pay more attention now though. Thank you.
