  1. I wanted to just chime in again and let people know i'd be willing to help find things if need be! :) Also, if you "like" Homeschool Share on facebok, Ami has been posting the "reorganized" units as they are being finished!! She has posted a new unit for Mike Mulligan and one for Appalachian Mountains Connections that would include When I Was Young in the Mountains and an entire unit for Down, Down the Mountain. Hope that is helpful! :)
  2. Never mind, that did not come out right. :)
  3. You can still search for book names, some will be there - the ones that hss has enough lessons for *on its own* without using the fiar lessons. Some books just did not have enough lessons to make a complete lap book. Those lessons are likely still there but listed elsewhere. I would suggest searching by title and then by subject - be specific with the subject of the specific lesson - and see if that helps. Again, I will help also if I can! And I can ask ami directly too. That is what she has been doing for the past 24-36 hours straight or so! Ha! Just answering questions. :)
  4. Kerri, in a nutshell, if the lesson/lap book piece was based on a specific fiar lesson and said "fiar manual p. 43" it will now be gone. But, if there were basic lessons like France for Madeline that were not fiar specific they are still there. At this point, the server is still being very inundated and the search won't always work and links may not be 100% functional. But the site is getting so many hits there is nothing we can do about it. Also, we are still "in process." All the units are NOT finished or "rearranged" or "repackaged" yet. It will take time... If you are looking for something specific I can try to help, feel free to ask! :)
  5. I am a part of the HSS team and there are several things that have gone on that made this decision necessary. Not the least of which Ami explained in the blog post, their international adoption of 3 little ones. But also not having the FIAR blessing was a part of it all. Anyway, we are almost done with Madeline. :) And a lot of the units are still there, just rearranged. And many are being redone...but you do understand that it is just regular homeschooling moms like you and me working on all this, right?! :) Ami and Jason have always done everything to bless...this was not done to frustrate. There really were reasons why it was necessary. And I just think out if gratitude to Jason and Ami the complaints should stop... The emails and comments are out of control. Seriously. It has been a but unbelievable to me. And all the while Ami has been so very gracious!!! I hope everyone can put themselves in another's shoes and try to be understanding about this. :) there really are still thousands of FREE unit studies and lap books aside from the fiar stuff. And a lot of it is wonderful stuff, too!!!
  6. I know all of you realize that these few links you are reading is not in fact the whole story. This family lives in our area and has attended our large, non-fundy, church lots of times but attends regularly elsewhere. I had one of the younger ones in vbs a few years ago. They are a precious family that has been through a heck of a lot. I'm surprised to see so many of you suggesting private school. If you believe in homeschooling and believe you should have that right, why is that a good option?
  7. Here are a few links from my blog of things we have done over the years. one thing that i think is so important is faith traditions surrounding holidays like Easter and Christmas! These are some of my favorite ways to incorporate Scripture into our family/home life. For 3rd grade and up: we recently reviewed this Bible curriculum that i was very please with. A Proverbs Study I did with my kids Here are some things I wrote about memorizing scripture with kids. As for our routine -- we start each morning on the couch, we always talk about prayer requests and pray together. Then, we read from whatever Bible we are reading at the moment - I read one story/chapter daily and that's it, we discuss. Then we go over all our memory verses and poems. We do the verses/poems we are working on currently and then a few older ones each day. I really like memorizing longer passages with my kids too. Last year we memorized James chapter 1 together! woo-hoo!! Here are a few ideas for Lent/Easter (even if you're not catholic) I love doing things in our home to prepare our hearts for Easter! A few of our advent resources for the month of december. **disclosure: please don't let these links lead you to believe we have it all together in our home!! :) Just wanted to point that out...I'm a very messed up mama who needs the grace of God desperately in my parenting. I just happen to really enjoy finding and sharing good ideas on my blog.
  8. For those ages, have you read the Jesus Storybook Bible with them? That is my all time favorite children's bible. We have read it through multiple times...as recently as last semester! I just think the way the stories are presented is so foundational to how I want my kids to learn... I have a few other links I can share but will have to wait til I get on the desktop. :)
  9. I got the info from Ami on the server they have, she said they would love to have some more homeschooled kids join them there! :) She doesn't want me to post the direct link, so just send me a message if you'd like it!!
  10. My girls love their Smash books I got them around that age!! Also any type of little craft kit from Hobby Lobby or such they love. My girls do like clothes also...purses, scarves, accessories are fun too!
  11. I have a friend who has a private server, they are a homeschooling family. (It is Ami, the creator Of Homeschool Share.) and I asked her if they would like more folks on theirs and she said yes. So, I'm not sure the best way to handle it. She didn't want me to post her email, so maybe y'all could message me and i can send you their info??
  12. Oh I do think our lid is very hard to get off...but we still love it I suppose. :)
  13. Love our ninja!! The latest one we got (after daughter melted the base on our stove top) had the 2 blender containers, 1 big and 1 small. The small is for dough! We've done pizza crust in it and it works great!! We do smoothies daily and it's great! I also put oats in it to turn into oat flour and it did great!!
  14. Oh I would love to do this!! What a fun idea! :) British flags? Cucumber sandwiches?
  15. I've linked some of my favorite books and ideas here: http://www.mercyisnew.com/2013/02/the-start-of-lent-books-links-resources.html?m=1
  16. Can anyone recommend a good, quality brand if these? And is there a difference in a bottle that says acidophilus and one that is probiotics? Is one better than the other?? My kids keep on getting a stomach bug...I mean every few weeks one or more of them is throwing up again. since thanksgiving!!! Ugh! Any other suggestions??
  17. I love chicken breasts with taco seasoning in the crockpot....shred the meat and have a taco bar! Just set out tortillas, lettuce, cheese, salsa, etc. people can fix their own plates according to how they like their tacos.
  18. If she truly knows all the notes, names and placements on the piano, and learned that in a week - yes, that is fast learning! And scales?! Impressive! As far as memorizing a short one handed song, I think that is fairly normal. I have a music degree and am a former piano teacher, if that matters. :)
  19. I have been using it and love it! I recently wrote a blog post about how we are using it...would love to find more ways also!! :) my Dh and son use it in their hair but its not enough for me. http://www.mercyisnew.com/2013/01/uses-for-dr-bronners-quest-for-health.html?m=1
  20. We loved the Coke factory/museum! And Stone Mountain is great! Also, there are some great history museums there!
  21. I guess I'm the odd one...I actually enjoy Good Luck Charlie. It looks like I should be embarrassed by that, oh well. We just laugh together and it's entertaining... I guess I don't analyze it as much. Not that I am saying anyone is wrong...I just don't think about it.
  22. I'm having one of those weeks. I *only* have 3 children but I just know they are going to be the death of me. Ugh.
  23. A smash book can really be anything...a journal, a scrapbook, etc. I have given them to my girls as their first scrapbooks - they have put pictures in them, birthday cards, notes, other papers, written things in it. I love them!!
  24. I was not prepared for last night's episode. Ugh. I cried too. So sad... Why only 6 episodes?!? Ugh!! I want more! Ha! So bummed! I need to find a few more shows to fall in love with. :) Parenthood had season finale...in January?! Is that odd to anyone else? I also liked private practice and it ended all together, last week was the show finale. Boo. So we only have a few more Downton's?? Major downer!!
