  1. I have one that is very distractible! I will be watching this thread with interest. :) I don't know how old or for what activities, but when my son is working on something he can do independently, I gave him my iPod and he listens to music. This helps with things like copy work and simple math pages that he doesn't need me for.
  2. We have done: Psalm 8 Psalm 23 Psalm 100 Psalm 139 James 1 1 cor. 13 Matthew 5 - beatitudes and sermon on mt.
  3. This may have been shared elsewhere, but I am reading The Wheat Belly and wow! Very eye opening!! I have seen a lot of what is in this book in my own life...the book is also great for a boost of motivation or inspiration to keep up the low-carb if you need that boost, like I do. :)
  4. Are there VERY simple ways to do weight training at home? I am down 16 pounds and seem to have plateaued. I am also doing low or no carb and that has been the only thing that has really helped. I am also walking with jogging intervals 3-4 times a week. I would like to do something simple but just don't know what I am doing and can't spend much money. My Dh has weights but they are all too heavy for me. :tongue_smilie: Thanks!!
  5. We enjoyed A Living History of Our World this last year. :)
  6. Thanks for those ideas!! I am making a list of new ideas to try this week...hoping we hit a few that help!!
  7. Have any of you used her books or products?? I am teaching my first boy to read and he is...well, a boy! :D Easily distracted, would rather be playing, active and all over the place...normal 7 year old boy! I just think I need a little help I'm teaching him to read. He can sound out words and we do it daily with me trying to get him to sit still on the couch with me. :001_smile: Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!
  8. Thanks, Megan!! Duh! I had not thought to watch the video to see what is used!! Ha!!
  9. Jam having a bit of trouble finding some of the specific supplies for atelier level 4 and wondered if anyone could either offer insight or help me know a good alternative. I am looking on amazon now, hoping I can find some of this that hobby lobby didn't have, that is all we have around here. 3/4 inch easel brush Wax crayons - are crayola fine? Tag board - not exactly sure what This is? Thanks! :)
  10. We have also tried several and not had much luck! Ugh!! This year we are going with Spanish for Children.
  11. For those of you that do multiple read alouds and other various things in the mornings, approximately how long does this take? And help me figure out how to get my kids to listen for longer. :D I do break it up (with the movement activities mentioned earlier.) I do let them do things with their hands. But I need to be reading MORE. And I really like to do it ALL in the morning. I think it's my own issue, after lunch I am just done. :tongue_smilie: I have been known to give consequences, especially lately...but I really wish there was a positive way to help them enjoy this time more! It's MY favorite time of the day! :)
  12. To break it up a bit we do exercises to skip counting about halfway through our memory work and reading. We do jumping jacks and count by 5's. We march around the room while we count by 2's. We touch our toes and count by 10's. Etc... I do need a few more ideas for "active" breaks...we have had so much reading and such that my kids are getting restless!
  13. Thank you all so much for helping me with my craziness!! :tongue_smilie: I think I have the right thing. I do think it might be an older version. But, I appreciate the suggestion to look at the DVD schedule. I was thinking ONE DVD was ONE lesson. And since I didn't have any of the teacher pages, I thought this wasn't the right thing. I have printed off the whole PDF file and I think we are good to go now! Seeing that schedule makes a LOT more sense!! Thank you all so much! Sorry I was confusing myself on top of my original question! :) Oh, and I can't find a date anywhere on my stuff...
  14. I think I am confusing myself! It has to be the right thing if it matches that picture, right?! I guess I was wondering since it said "day one, day two" if I bought the wrong thing??
  15. Ok, well the front of the notebook and the DVD look just like the picture on this page? http://www.excellenceinwriting.com/sid-a
  16. Ok, my DVD cover says this, and there are 4 separate DVD's in the pack. Day One: Outlines, Summary Day Two: Story Summary Day Three: Reference Summary, Paragraph Structure Day Four: Creative Writing UGH!! I am thinking I do not have the actual program!! We had watched a lot of the first DVD and I felt like it was really moving too quickly for us...now I think I'm seeing why. So, is this just a seminar and not the actual SWI-A course?!?!
  17. Ok, I've been printing and going through this notebook that I bought (used) from someone and I am starting to think that it is 2 different things! ugh! On the notebook I bought (which I thought was SWI-A) it says at the bottom: Student Seminar Materials - and in the notebook it says day 1, day 2, day 3, day 4. It doesn't even have the same handouts that are on the PDF that I bought to go with SWI-A. Do you think I got the wrong thing? (not trying to say the person lied to me in selling it to me...I've had it QUITE awhile and am not trying to get my money back or anything at this point.) I'm just curious if I don't actually have the full program!?!
  18. Thank you all for your suggestions! I was afraid that since I purchased a used copy I should not call for help. What do you all think about that? Although now I guess I did purchase the PDF file...but that was less than $10 I think. I think part of what I am missing is where it tells the parent what to do at each lesson...like just what you explained in the paragraph above...that is helpful, I just need directions like that for the whole program!! Ha!!
  19. **Update: please read my last message today, I have a somewhat different question now that i have looked over the materials better!! I bought the SWI-A used and we have tried and tried to start it...but it is missing pages and I just feel clueless!! We have watched the first lesson and done a keyword outline...a few times I guess. But it's been awhile because every time I open it I get frustrated. I purchased something from the website that has student and teacher pages in it. But I'm still feeling clueless! I am wondering if I just need to print off all the student pages and start over. Maybe if I had it all in front of me I would see what we needed to do? I really want to make this work. What would you do next??
  20. We love amazon prime! We got rid of cable and got a Roku box, amazon prime has lots of great shows and options, so we use it for tv -- much cheaper than cable!! :) We also use the 2 day shipping quite frequently. And I also enjoy borrowing kindle books from time to time!
  21. We are halfway through the 2nd level and we love it!! We have been using it for a little over a year I think.
  22. Actually, for me it took longer. With it being summer and hot they can't ship them. Ours took more than a month. Ugh!
