  1. I only know a handful of people who haven't had it. I do agree there are people who have had it who don't realize it. I have a friend who had some tests done recently and found it she had had it but she had no idea! I think 75% to 80% would be pretty accurate.
  2. I will definitely try it next! This is gonna sound weird - but it's actually been nice to realize I can use drugstore shampoos. I have an incredibly sensitive scalp and struggled for years with scalp irritation. My head would itch so much I had trouble sleeping. When I started using Biolage the irritation went away so I thought I just couldn't use drug store shampoos. With prices on the rise and one in college (and one headed to college next year) I thought it would be a good time to explore my shampoo options. It seems like drugstore shampoos have really upped their game in recent years.
  3. Those are great points! I didn't even think about hair being dead LOL.
  4. I've looked at the L'oreal Elvive line, I may try it next.
  5. It wasn't just the youtube guy. There are several articles that say the same thing. I'm not freaked out, just curious. I wanted to see what other people thought! I like Tresemme so I'm going to stick with it for now. Maybe when I get both kids through college I will go back to a more expensive brand lol. My scalp (my whole body really) is very sensitive so I know what to avoid. I don't mind parabens because they are less irritating than other preservatives and there isn't any actual evidence that links parabens to cancer - that i know it anyway. This particular Youtuber (the blow out professor? I think) makes money off of selling salon products. Which is why I did independent research to see what others had to say. There is so much knowledge on this board I wanted to take advantage of it!
  6. No one bashed Biolage so I'm a little confused by what you mean??? Or do you mean that because Biolage contains the "bad" ingredients they were being indirectly bashed?? But yes I do think there is some lying going on. I know tons of people who use drugstore shampoo (including DH and both DD's and no ones hair is dirty or damaged) I was just wondering what others thought? Especially those who currently aren't profiting from selling salon products.
  7. I used Biolage shampoo and conditioner for years, but in an effort to economize I purchased Tresemme. I like Tresemme, Recently, however, I watched a youtube video that demonized ALL drugstore shampoos. He said drugstore shampoo actually harm your hair. Something about they contain products that coat the hair, making it impossible for the ingredients that cleanse and nourish the actually reach the hair shaft. So basically drugstore shampoos leave your hair dirty and damaged. So I began to do a little research and came across things like "salon shampoos don't contain sulfates or silicones" which are potentially bad. But yet when I looked at the ingredients of my beloved Biolage, it contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Dimethicone. I know Sodium Laureth Sulfate is the milder version of Sodium Laurel Sulfrate which I do actually avoid because my scalp doesn't like it. The Tresemme also contains these two ingredients. Even Purology and Redken both contain Dimethicones. I do believe that salon products are more concentrated, therefore require less product per use, but I don't use 3x the amount of Tresemme than I do Biolage, making Tresemme less expensive. I am mainly interested it knowing if drugstore shampoos are actually harmful. So what says the hive?
  8. I appreciate your response! I really think the issue is my DD wasn't feel well Tuesday when she texted me. She is generally easy going and doesn't have melt downs. (I didn't know she felt bad!) So when she texted me kind of freaking out, I took it as more seriously than I should have. I think she has calmed down. She has dealt with this before so I know she can get through it. DD is very organized so disorganization annoys her! But that is something she needs to deal with. DD20 is getting the material so that isn't the issue. But it does bother her to hear her other classmates being berated in class.
  9. The exasperation part. But the students are exasperated too. I agree taking out frustrations on your students isn't helpful, especially when the professor is very unorganized. I mean it's one thing to be annoyed at students not doing an assignment, but quite another to be annoyed at students not doing an UNassigned assignment.
  10. Mainly how to cope. Shes actually doing better today. She realizes her professor made a bad joke - a couple of weeks ago someone threw a homemade bomb on campus. So tensions are pretty high and to make a joke like that just makes things much worse. I understand her professor is frustrated -but this professor is also extremely unorganized which frustrates the students as well. Also it turns our DD isn't feel well so that may have contributed to her breakdown. (I didn't know she wasn't feel well at the time)
  11. The Nutrimill I have is the sister to the Bosch - they are very similar. It is a great mixer! I went with the Nutrimill because they were on sale at the time. But I looked at Bosch too. I don't think you can go wrong with either.
  12. Nutrimill Artiste https://www.nutrimill.com/product/artistemixer/ I much prefer the nutrimill to a Kitchenaid when making bread. However I have never made a cake batter with it, I use my KitchenAid for lighter work like cakes, frosting, whipping cream etc. The nice thing about the Nutirmill is it is so light in weight. It lives in my pantry and I get it out when needed vs my Kitchenaid which lives on the counter. Because the Nutrimill is so light it relies on suction cups to keep steady, so if a suction cup won't adhere to your counter it may not work for you.
  13. My dd20 just texted me and is upset about one of her classes. Her professor said today she was going to jump out the window because the class isn't getting it. This is a freshman level class btw. The past 2 years have been tough for everyone. But last year has been particularly difficult. My Dd17 has been suicidal and dd20 (the student in question) went through an awful breakup. She almost dropped out of school and moved 16 hours away. I guess her teacher had been kind if mean but today was my daughters breaking point. Any advise?
  14. I never expect a thank you after a baby is born, but I admit I do kind of expect one after a bridal shower or wedding. Especially when at the bridal shower the guests fill out their own addresses on the envelope. But I'm never mad to not receive one! I will add that it is nice when the happy couple actually prints their name along with the words "Thank you" on the photo card. We received one with a picture of the couple an the words thank you and nothing else. We didn't know the groom, but I had know the bride for years. Well, for her wedding she had on a ton of make up (I am not judging!!) when she usually didn't wear much and I did not recognize her!
  15. Thank you's after a funeral are pretty common where I live. Typically the family will have a place to leave a donation for a non-profit. St Jude's, American Cancer Society, or even a local historical society. Plus many families send flowers or bring food to the family. The funeral home provides Thank You cards to the family and they generally have a pre-printed message. I've never received, nor sent, a thank you for attending a funeral. I know it may seem strange, but there is something about sending the thank you's that is consoling. Just going through the names of those so generous and kind can be very comforting.
  16. I agree. When I read the post my first thought was how do grown ups in Maine not know that ma'am is used as a sign of respect in some parts of the country. I know not everyone watches tv, but any military show or show set in the South will use the word ma'am. I would be surprised if a teacher of a new student didn't realize they were from Texas, especially considering this was a rural (and I assume small) school.
  17. "reached out" So and so reached out to me. I think it rubs me the wrong way because the people IRL who say this generally couple it with name dropping. The mayor/president/someone super duper important reached out to me, when in fact that someone spent 10 seconds sending you a text asking for a favor. I know some people don't use it this way, but this is just my personal experience and this term just drives me nuts!!!
  18. I don't 😊 Maybe I should care, but this is one of those "it honestly doesn't bother me" things. But I can't stand grease spatters on my stove, counter, or floor. (My stove is at the end of my counters - not between 2 cabinets- so occasionally I will get a bit of a spill or grease spatter on the floor.) So I do care about messes, just not the ones I can close the door on LOL.
  19. Wanted to add I do not flip my bacon, nor do I drain the grease in the midst of cooking. I do save my grease for scrambled eggs. I used to work at a summer camp and we baked at 500 high fan. Apparently I was trusted to cook the bacon, but I can tell you I burned my fair share!
  20. Now I need bacon 😀 I also line the pan with foil first.
  21. I set my oven to 400 convection roast (high fan), and bake for about 12 minutes. It really depends on the thickness of the bacon and if I put it in before the oven fully preheats (I'm not very patient!) The really good bacon from the local butcher is thicker and takes a couple of minutes longer. I also do not put on a baking rack because I hate cleaning them. The second batch always cooks quicker - I reuse the same pan and it's still hot when I reload. The more I think about it, I think I do 375 convection roast. I do it so often I don't even think about it.
  22. We use Total Wireless which uses Verizon towers. 4 phones, 100 shared gbs of data, $106/month ($100 for the services, $6 in taxes). A 2 line plan is $57 (plus probably $3 in taxes?) and you share 30 gbs of data before throttling. We've been happy with me. When we switched from Verizon years ago, the first thing I did was research which pay as you go plans used Verizon towers (that's all we have where I live) So I would recommend deciding which towers to use first, then look at pay as you go plans.
