  1. Thank you, that's all I needed to know before ordering. I happen to have the larger print copies of Alice and Mole, but it sounds like there is information in the books that won't be in the TM. I wonder if anyone is ordering anything on from the company besides these books. I was thinking of Classics in the Classroom.
  2. We basically only listen to history audiobooks and it's too bad our library and the whole California system does not have this particular one. I have found a few children's history books on librivox.org.
  3. So the 3 books are essential because there are notes in there that are not in the teacher's manual?
  4. I think there is value in place value disks when the numbers get high. There may be confusion in figuring how many tens there are in 10,000 (and I won't be teaching DD the trick for figuring that out) or 100s in 100,000. So, I need something that could help DD play around with the numbers while she is figuring out these things in her mind. I didn't get the HIGs for 1 and 2, but wow, for 3A, I'm wondering what I missed in the previous levels. We've been working on this orally, saying that 23 one-hundreds is equal to 2300 or 23 tens is 230. It would be good to play around with foam disks, but my RR cart only has about $100:glare: so I may end up ordering plastic counters from Amazon and marking them up with a permanent marker. One of the reasons why I hesitated with the latter is that I'm allergic to the smell of permanent markers.
  5. Is there real diagramming with lines and slashes? I didn't know about this and will need to re-consider it again. I hesitated buying because I thought it was just a story of the parts of speech, but if it goes beyond just an explanation of the "characters," I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have just one more grammar supplement.
  6. It's cheaper than base-10, although I do have these, but I would have to buy A LOT more to get us into the thousands.
  7. These are suggested for Singapore Math 3 in the HIG std edition. RR carries 2 different sets, here and here. Are these disks helpful, better than base-ten blocks? Or is there a place where I can download a worksheet of number disks and then laminate and cut them? That's a lot of work, isn't it? :glare:
  8. Knowing me, I'll probably forget to order it at the discounted price. Weekends are always more chaotic around here.
  9. I like more conservative, classy girl clothes so after looking at various places, I thought LE is the perfect place at a very affordable price after a sale. I don't want DD to be a walking advertisement for Disney, etc.
  10. Little Bo, Little Bo in France, Little Bo in Italy by Julie Andrews Edwards (yes, that Julie). These might be on the same reading level as the book you mentioned and all are about this one kitty/cat.
  11. And if a Sears employee is not aware of this return policy (as I once experienced), the receipt says that returns can be accepted at any Sears.
  12. Hi Stripe! We read the first couple of chapters last month after you recommended this on the other thread and DD had so much fun with one of the suggested activities.
  13. Here you go, hehehe. By the way, at least for Basher Astronomy (haven't not yet looked at the others in the series), it is all about character development. I think it will really amuse a boy.
  14. I re-read your post and I'm also planning to get Basher too at the library :D. We clearly are on the same path! To answer your question about confusion, there was none here, just eagerness to take out Grammar Island for fun (imagine that!) and choosing to listen to Grammarland as an audiobook.
  15. I almost bought Sentence Family but DD has found Grammarland to be extremely enjoyable and has learned all the parts quite quickly, so I haven't made up my mind since $12 is $12. She learns much better when a subject is taught in a story format, probably due to her age. We also have Grammar Island, which is good in the sense that it is fun, although not as detailed as Grammarland. Grammar Island doesn't have any characters like Grammarland. There is a free set of worksheets online that correspond with each chapter of Grammarland, but I don't use it since we do most of everything orally. I haven't used Sentence Island yet as I would like to re-do Grammar Island one more time. We've listened to Grammarland a few times and I'm beginning to read it as a read-aloud on my Kindle so that I can ask her questions. I do use FLL3 for more structure and practice.
  16. I basically only shop at Land's End for DD. About once a week, an email arrives about some sort of discount or sale and we find the best deals on the website. I've bought a cardigan that used to be $30 at $9.99. All her shoes are purchased there for about $10 a pair and they are very comfortable and extremely cute. It's not cheaply made clothes at all. I love their leggings, tights, skorts, and shoes! I can't stand shopping malls and especially with a younger child, it's nearly impossible to shop, so everything is bought online and if it doesn't fit, I have DH return it to Sear's :D. There's also no need to buy anything full price unless you really want it. Sales come rather quickly and emails with great promotion codes arrive often. I feel like a Land's End rep.
  17. Should Lollipop Logic be done before Primarily Logic or are they independent of each other?
  18. I'm not complaining or comparing :D, but I appreciate MM more now. I think Maria gives us a whole month and she is very responsive. By the way in my coop account I don't see this program under My Subscription. Does anyone? I ordered Arrow last month and it's still there. So if it's under that tab, it would be easier to just go there and download rather than looking through the spam folder.
  19. I found it in my spam folder yet the first email about the order confirmation was in my inbox . Maybe one has a link while the other contains the receipt, which made all the difference. It was sent at 7:45 pm, Tuesday, and the email says that I have until Wednesday the 29th, midnight, to download it.
  20. I just checked but no email and nothing in my homeschool coop account. That time limit seems odd and unreasonable. Thanks for the heads-up.
  21. Well, Henle (full text in Google books) has blood and violence. There's a lot about the Romans slaughtering the Gauls in the beginning. DD doesn't write out any of the exercises; we study Latin mostly orally.
  22. I skipped the last few lessons of WWE1 because I felt that DD could do 2-sentence dictation exercises. We are now on week 7 of WWE2 and haven't yet encountered problems. My plan was to try out WWE2 and go back to WWE1 if I felt it was too much of a challenge.
  23. I have the first book you listed, Bar Modeling, and Elementary Mathematics for Teachers. The first one I bought because I wanted to specifically learn about bar diagrams on my own, and I read on this forum and on the SM forum that this particular book was excellent. I bought the other book before I had any HIGs and I still think it's a useful resource.
  24. We're a bit late too. I'm getting them for fun reading (did I just write that?), even if the concepts have been done and understood.
