  1. http://www.hookandneedles.com/2008/03/22/amigurumi-tutorial-1/ This gal has her own site with excellent videos! I watched all of hers and they were the ones that helped the most. She has videos of all the basic stitches you'll need for amigurumi or crochet.
  2. Honestly, crochet is WAY easier! Check out some Youtube videos and you'll be surprised. I taught myself how to do the amigurumi animals by watching Youtube videos only. Once you learn the 'circle' (sometimes called magic circle) you have it made and can make ANYTHING. Try it but don't get discouraged after a few tries. If you can knit, you can do this! :)
  3. What about the possibility of going to Disney but scheduling your daughter to take the PSAT in Orlando? Would that be a possibility?
  4. Do you crochet? If you do or if you are good at translating crochet instructions to knit (not hard) then you should google 'amigurumi duck'. There are lots of cute ami ducks out there!
  5. "Yo, Sacramento! " It is a great book to memorize the states and capitals. You can do it in about 30-45 min!
  6. This was my first reaction too. I think I tend to avoid those threads that show potential to get too time intensive so that might explain it. I think it is a good idea to keep the 'online community' stuff in perspective. Life is too short to get wrapped up in online debates to the extent that it is stressing or frustrating JMHO. :001_smile:
  7. How old are your kids? teen and pre-teen What are they doing 15 minutes before you start schoolwork? taking dog outside to potty, making beds & getting dressed. What are YOU doing 15 minutes before you start schoolwork? feeding the cats, scooping & making coffee.
  8. We live about 2 hrs from Orlando and when the park opens we're soooo there! We want to get resident annual passes for Universal that year. We do the Hogwarts Summer School so we are huge HP fans and can't wait! :D
  9. Assigned reading & Texts: being the organizational maniac that I am, in the assignment bins. Their own choice fun reading: They keep them in their rooms.
  10. Yes. Actually some of the private schools in our area offer these classes (they offer pe, art & music mostly). I personally would only be interested in elective type classes though because we handle the core classes at home. No. No workshops on teaching tips needed. Have those skills down pat. ;) No. No online from any private schools for us since we have access to virtual school through the state and it is free.
  11. One word of caution about the raw diet-you'll want to only use fresh meat...not the store meat that has been sitting out and may have been frozen then thawed. Unless the meat is fresh, you run the risk of introducing bacteria into the pets diet and they can get very ill. I know..we tried the BARF diet (yes...that is the real name). Our dog got very ill with the raw meat. We even tried the packaged raw meat sold by a specialty pet store and she became ill with vomiting and runny stools. Then I changed to cooked meat. Throughout the pet food scare I made our own pet food. I cooked meat in the slow cooker then ground it up in my processor and bagged it in ziplocks (in daily sizes) and froze. It was a lot of work and I'm not sure if I saved much in terms of money. I did it mainly because I didn't know which food to trust. There are pet food companies that are safe to feed your pet (no euthanized pet issues in the manufacture) but you need to research. These are some good ones: Evangers, Flint River Ranch, Merrick. Another thing about making your own pet food especially if you are making it for a cat. Cats need special nutrients and you'll want to carefully read the internet sites that have recipes specially for cats. Those nutrients will need to be added. I am thinking about Taurine in particular. Taurine is added in commercial pet food. Can food is best for cats. They are meat eaters and dry food is not their normal diet. If you buy canned be sure to get the ones where the first 5 ingredients are meat or meat by product. Making pet food is probably the best food for your pet but you'll need to do a little research to really know if it is doable for your family. Hope this helps! :)
  12. I have Unitedstreaming Plus but we're in FL so I wasn't able to get Irrashai videos through my subscription. I was able to get something called 'Salsa-riffic' videos but I don't think these are the same as the Salsa videos that GPB has (?). I called and left a message with GPB to see if there they will have Irrashai available to Unitedstreaming and if I can get it in FL but nobody will call me back. :(
  13. I was able to download on my pc (no luck with my mac but it was probably just me). Play the video and either right click on it with the mouse to bring up the options or at the bottom right of the screen click the buttons and see if you can get a option to download to RealPlayer. I had to play with it for awhile before I worked it out. Hopes this helps!
  14. Cool! I just checked the Salsa Spanish videos and if you search by TITLE "Salsa" they all pop up! I'm glad I was able to help. :001_smile:
  15. Thank you for the contact info. I sent him a get well e-card. I hope he gets well soon. :(
  16. OK I don't know if I was supposed to find this but I found a link to the Irrashai Videos. I don't know how long they will keep them out there but if you want them, you might consider downloading and saving to disk.... Go to : http://dl.gpb.org/vsx/GPBPro/diglib_search/search For the drop down menu named BASIC, choose "japanese" by choose 'description' (drop down menu to the right) Then for the drop down menu named SHOW, choose "video" Then hit the search button (same line as where you typed 'japanese') The videos are in there! I don't know if any of the other discontinued courses are in there buy they may be. Like I said before, I'd get them downloaded and saved before they go poof like they did on the main site link.
  17. In the early years of hsing I felt some of that but after so many years, I think I've just gotten pretty good at scheduling better. The past several years we've managed to keep everything going smoothly and we get it all done. In the long run it does get easier. :)
  18. Ick! That sounds exactly what happened to us 2x in one year! It was some electronic control gadget that froze up and died. I wish I could be more specific but dh (who knows the scientific gadget names) is working late. It was an expensive fix...that I do remember. :(
  19. Based on that alone, I wouldn't join that coop. My dh and I don't do the submissive thing. We're a team. He probably wouldn't want to sign anything like that based on the fact that he would find it insulting and would think I'd lost my mind for wanting to join a group that sounded so bizarre. We run from coops that sound the least bit crazy or cultish.
  20. An Amigurumi teddy bear. I need to finish it soon too.
  21. I would only do it if that cabinet was used for storing non-food items and items that are not a contamination danger. Cats don't always hit the mark and you wouldn't want to risk getting sick. It sounds like a better location than the kitchen but just be sure you can get at it easily for cleaning.
  22. This concept is covered in Dolciani Pre-Alg. From the book... 7 to the zero power=7 to the 1st power/7 = 7/7 = 1 The powers of 7 in decreasing order are such that each power of 7 is the quotient of the preceding power divided by a factor of 7....This decreasing pattern suggest that 7 to the zero power is equal to 7 to the 1st power divided by 7.
  23. :iagree: We did it this summer and loved it too! We also read Tiner's Exploring The World of Chemistry too. It was a nice add-on to this program. :)
