  1. Where am I? Letters from around the world. Classmates read/ hear the descriptions and their peers have to guess where they are based solely on the information that has been provided. Can describe the topography, culture & customs, etc... Would this work? Is this more along the lines of what you're looking for? or do you want something totally unrelated to geo? HTH
  2. Thanks Brandigirl. (What is "dog at block?") Anyone else? :bigear:
  3. [quote name=AK_Mom4;3784427 Giftedness and Classic Education works just fine here' date=' thanks. But what I have found is that Giftedness and Group Education don't work so well. [/quote] :iagree:
  4. Thanks! I DO need to clarify. Online LIVE classes Student completes coursework EVERYDAY BUT For a "live/ interactive" class that meets at a certain time on certain days - how many scheduled in a day could/would be considered waaay too many?
  5. Hi, What is an "ideal" online schedule? Do you schedule all classes on one day or spread it out? Typically, how many classes per day would be considered too many? (assume that the courses are taught by engaging instructors and that your motivated student likes taking on line classes) TIA
  6. Thanks so much (was talking about the on-line classes)
  7. Do students take Primary and Secondary concurrently or Primary during the school year and Secondary over the summer? How accelerated are the summer (Secondary) courses? Can someone advise either way? What would you do? (What have you done?) :bigear:
  8. My favs :001_smile: Facts First Aha Math - Learning.com
  9. Honestly, if you're not up for it... just tell the Grandma. Maybe she's drawn to you and your house is lively. There are children for her to interact with. And you're having a baby!! That's exciting. But if she's like my sweetie was at 7 she could be a HUGE help to you (think Mommie's helper) One or two days a week to help fold laundry/ read picture books to your little ones/ color/ put in a book on tape with you in the room ... think quiet activities. Just schedule a convenient time for you. It could be a win/ win. My neighbor and I worked out a plan - my super helpful dd would read to her ds (pre-schooler) 2 afternoons a week. He got storytime and snack with a friend, she got to "play Teacher," practice her reading, and help a younger child with letter recognition and phonics. That's a "b" B says buh... "Find the blue ball - is it under or above the table? They both looked forward to it. We, the Moms, got 1 hour one day a week of quiet time. Tuesdays - my house, Thursdays - her house.
  10. I certainly hope not!! I hope people care about people. The race issue is sooo divisive. Slavery and injustice have a cost. The price we have paid, are paying, may yet pay is TOO HIGH. On all sides white and black. and beyond black & white to include all ethnicities. When will people see one another as one - HUMANITY? Emotions are running very high. Thanks for explaining that this (trademark thing) is not out of the ordinary/ unheard of. It's just news to me.
  11. Help me understand the motivation to trademark his name. Read on-line that she filed two applications for a trademark. Profitting from this tragedy? Is the money to raise awareness and attorney fees? Who advised her to do this? Al Sharpton? IDK (I see him on the news discussing the case a lot) Is this a typical response to something like this? (Maybe I'm just totally clueless)
  12. maybe Teaching the Classics "Worldview edition" ???
  13. Other than my children's names Sterling & Stella are my current first name favs and perfect for twins
  14. Teachers also know who washes their hands and who doesn't. "Little Johnny made this special just for you!!" ** Had a co worker who confessed that her cat frequently climbs up on the kitchen counter. Well the cat tried to lick the cake she brought to an office party!! She caught her "just in time." (Me: "Really... Wow, she must really like cake, huh? Her: "Oh, she LOVES cake!!") :001_huh: I wrapped my piece to go. I like pets but don't want anybody's cat near my cake!! Who's to say Kitty wasn't on her third or fourth lick?!!! No thanks. But yeah, this is really tragic. and they need to be dealt with. Even a child is known by their actions...
  15. I've been in a similar situation. People have their own issues that really have nothing to do with how kind and how wonderful you are. She may be amused that you're so worked up or may be totally oblivious to how you feel.Have you had a "heart to heart?" If you've addressed it and it continues, you may be giving this individual too much power and influence. Why? If they cause you to FEEL undervalued, that's huge. She may in fact undervalue you but that doesn't negate your value. When I was dealing with a similar issue, a person very close to the situation gave me something to consider. "Sometimes, the way you feel is EXACTLY the way they want you to feel." At some point you have to refuse to allow yourself to be so easily emotionally manipulated. (Are you the youngest of the group? Can't remember) So you COULD continually invest the time & energy to understand her attitude/ effect change... But don't you have other things to do with your time? Shake the dust off of your feet. Be civil. Plaster on a smile and keep it movin.' Have fun and enjoy those who truly enjoy you.
  16. It was not meant to be harsh. There are options when it comes to sports and homeschooling and all of those things have to be weighed. cost, time, travel, distance, etc... there's hspn, aau, club sports, private schools... - ask around. If someone wants it "all" - it's going to come at a cost. Things won't always be convenient. To me, the issue of homeschooling not being a viable choice because a student can't participate in public school sports is interesting. I encourage the OP to "think outside of the box." I don't know of any independent private schools who'd say "No, you're great but you can't play for us." (and there are plenty of private schools) also doesn't Virginia have thriving homeschool sports programs?
  17. There ARE homeschool sports leagues. IF you have been sincere in posting to this forum and are serious about homeschooling your daughter then every decision you make will be motivated by this desire. Homeschooling is always a viable option. Just takes a little more effort. Everyone isn't up for it. Prospective homeschoolers are encouraged to consider all of their options.
