  1. The hopes of a lot of homeschoolers and prospective homeschoolers were dashed today when the Senate failed to pass the bill out of committee by a vote of 7-8. The bill had been passed by the House of Delegates and the governor was behind the bill. My daughter is a rising ninth grader who really wanted to be homschooled next year if the "Tebow Bill" had passed. She is an avid tennis player who made All State in her eighth grade year and wants to play at the NCAA level. Without the ability to play tennis at the high school level, homeshooling is not a viable option for her. I have spent a lot of time sorting through the options over the last three weeks and we both were looking forward to embarking on a homeschool path. Maybe the General Assembly will pass it next year. It has been a pleasure using this Board as a tool to get up to speed and I pray that God's blessing will be on you and your family.
  2. My daughter visited Berklee last summer and she fell in love with it. I was impressed that they seem to place a high emphasis on having on getting their students employed post Berklee. They also have a tract for the business of music. Their musical emphasis is much more jazz than classical.
  3. Thanks for sharing. She is an excellent math student. She is taking Geometry this year and will take Algebra 2/Trig next year. I was under the impression that AP classes could not be taken until the 10th grade. Do you have any online providers that you would recommend?
  4. We are seriously considering shifting out daughter into homeschooling for her ninth grade year. I am sorting through curriculum alternatives now. She is taking Earth Science in her private school this year. She is an outstanding student so I am looking for an online course that would be rigorous. If she attends public school next year she would be in an IB program taking Honors Biology. Thank you very much for your input
  5. I am new to this site. I posted this question in the accelerated learning board and it was suggested that I repost the question on the high school board. We are seriously considering moving our daughter to homeschooling next year. She will be in the ninth grade and does very well academically. In addition, she is a talented tennis player and VA may be about to pass rules which would allow homeschoolers to be involved in public school sports. She is currently in a private school. Her schedule for next year would include Honors English and Honors Alg2/Trig. Any advice as to the best curriculum or online school would be greatly appreciated. The other classes that I would see her taking next year would include French 2, World History, Old Testament Survey, Music Theory and a science (she is scheduled for biology at her private school). Happy to receive any counsel from the pros in this forum. Thanks in advance.
