Okay.. another question.. How do you list your LA? do you include reading, spelling and writing ? Like would I just list our spelling workbook, our LA book, and our handwriting etc all under the LA? Also do you list all the books that the child will read, or just the instruction books and save the read list for the quartly reports etc?? Thank you!

Ok. sounds good. I think we have about 6 - 10 total that with the LA and a few I picked for historiy purposes.. then I will let her pick.. she loves to read but really likes to choose. So as long as we get that reading time in each day we should be good. I plan on keeping a log of the books in case the state asks. Thanks! :001_smile:

Just wondering if anyone has any advice for writing an IHIP for the first time. I sent my LOI & have not heard back from the district yet.. but Im going to go ahead and start writing up my IHIP.. Im in NY. I have found several samples that have helped alot But I want to make sure Im not missing anything. Thanks :D

Maybe this is a silly question./. But on an average is there a certain number that should be read each year? Going into 5th the LA program we are using only requires 4 books. I have others that I plan to have her read. But just wondering .. thanks :D

Where in Upstate are you?? I found a great pediatric Dentist in Latham NY! We travel about an hour to get there, but has been worth it!!

We just had a dental visit for my daughter and the dentist told me that my daughter has the same problem. Her 2 canines are high up and over top of her others. She recommended a visit to the orthodontist.... Im hestitant because shes so young.. she will 10 in august. Those teeth are not even coming through yet.. in fact the one side she hasnt lost the baby teeth yet. I would say to get a few different opinions. I personally think they should wait until late teens for braces.. I just do not see a point in gettng them so early. Im really not sure what to do either!

Wow that was a deal! But yea bummer unless you have family resources to help you move it and install then it would have cost too much! Personally I am remodeling a house and I found square corner pieces of Granite and the backsplashes for $4.95 each!!! at a bargain outlet on clearance! Thats right, I bought 8 pieces and They originally were about $90 each, so I made out great! My dad does construction and has the tools to cut the granite and although the edges wont be smoothed we are going to finish them with some kind of wood edging , so it will be fine. And we were able to move them , being they were in smaller sections. But if I didnt have him, I would never been able to do it!! :D

Okay , Thanks for all the info! It doesnt surprise me that I havent heard anything from them but wanted to be sure that I can just go ahead and send the IHIP in. So I will start working on that. What schedule do you school on? Im thinking of starting in August to give us a few extra weeks for flexibility. Thanks again for the info! As a newbie i really appreciate it!! :D

Quick question for those of you that homeschool in NY I sent my letter of intent at the end of June right after my daughter finished school. June 28 i think it was.. I sent it registered mail so I'd be sure that they received it , and they did the next day. Its now July 16th and I have not heard a word from the district! ? Just wondering what is normally suppose to occur after mailing the LOI?? Thanks! :001_smile:

I saw the other thread about why others chose German, But Im wondering about resources for teaching it to a 10 yr old. I have decided on German because we have a lot of German history in our family and I think it would be interesting to learn along with her. So any resources that you've used and liked please share. thanks ;)

Maybe try advertising in your local newspaper. Or make up some flyers and hang them around. :001_smile:

:DVery nice! I did something similar.. I used donnayoung also and printed mine calander , planners,etc . I organized mine into a binder. Im using the quarterly planner sheets. I only have one child so I think it will work good. It always looks so nice all put together in a binder. ;) and makes me feel organized! hehee:) Im all ready for our first year :D

Okay.. yes thats basically what Im thinking.. with the alternating it would leave 2 days one week and 3 the next for each subject. leaving the extra day for projects etc like you mentioned. Great thanks! :D

So I was thinking at first of doing History 3 days a week ( Mon, Wed, Fri. ) and science 2 days a week (Tues, & Thurs.). Then I started to think.. what if we just alternated every other day science and history?? this is 5th grade level. Just wondering what others do for these subjects?? Thanks :D

After being on FB for a few years.. my thinking is.. If I knew then what I know now.. I would have NEVER joined! ;) (If you just joined it may take a little while to show up in the results, they have tons of issues.)

My "only" just finished 4th grade in PS. She will start 5th grade HS'ing . Im super excited and so is she! ( I just sent the LOI this morning. :D) This is going to be a wonderful journey! Giving her the chance to explore beyond those brick walls ! ;) Im not sure if I could do more then one child though.. ?? Maybe if I wasnt a single parent. But overall I think its going to be a wonderful opportunity to learn so much for both of us together! :D

Okay.. so we were at my aunts house and the adults were playing cards and my daughter was in the other room watching tv. I was trying to help her find a movie,, when suddenly the adult channels came up on the tv guide!! I was flipping out with the "Titles" I saw!!!! Of course I didnt say anythng and tried to quickly turn the channel! :glare: I could not believe some of the obscene titles there were listed. :ohmy: How the heck can you block them ? Or can you at all! I was really mad that my daughter could read these just innocently flipping through the channels. they were really bad! We just recently got the new cable box for our tv, and even though we definately dont have those channels, they still appear on the guide. ( Our old cable didnt have the updated guide) anyone have this or know if you can take them off the guide?? Im rather disgusted.

I need to start running again, I hate it but I always felt so much better when I did run. When I started I would alternate a fast walk and a run for so many minutes each. Like I would walk then run for a minute then walk for a few, then run.. Then eventually it gets easier and you end up running more then walking. Although I have heard just a good fast walk is better then running, not as hard on your knees as running is. ;)
