  2. Thanks everyone!! Im doing much better today! She is off spending time with a friend, so hoping that helps! I really appreciate all of your kind thoughts and support! It helps to get outside input from others who have been and are in the same boat! thanks:grouphug:
  3. :grouphug: That made me laugh , i idont have a dh to tell me but yes right on there! I realized thats probably most of it along with the other stress at the moment.. it all built up and so it just exploded into a meltdown. (which i realized I cant even remember the last time I cried like that!) So apparently I needed it~! ;) I feel much better this afternoon.. shes with my mother and Im at work (doing my dreadful Biology).. Thank god I have my own shop so i can do my HW there! I left her with an art project. I had a nice chat with one of my regular customers who hs'ed her daughter for a few years. very helpful! I will not give up.. this is what I chose to do for a reason at this time in our life and we will move forward. :001_smile: Thank you!!
  4. Thank you! :grouphug: I did explain to her that sometimes we grownups have a whole lot of things that build up and we do cry! She understood. I think she felt badly about me crying.. she thought about it .. then said.. mom should i finish my math now? lol Gotta love em! I said no we are done for today. She openly said.. I guess I need to give it more of a chance! yah! ;) THanks everyone for your support!!
  5. Thats what I keep reminding myself.. her PS is terrible and the reasons why we did this! Just one little meltdown for me.. :tongue_smilie:.. and it was probably bc of a whole lot of other built up stuff and this just let it loose! thank you for your support, I so appreciate it!! We will get through this & on a positive note! thanks:grouphug:
  6. Im just sitting here in a chair crying.. she went down stairs and is just watching tv. I dont even think its the math.. it was just review multiplying worksheet and she knows the answers just didnt want to do it. shes refused to do any reading and she loves to read & draggn in everything else. she knows the stuff.. just isnt into doing it. She wanted to hs all last year.. Im just so upset I cant think straight.. and being single parent.. its times like these that really stink! :001_unsure:
  7. okay.. so today was only day 4.. and I thought it was going to be better but it didnt turn out that way. We did a few short lessons, trying to keep her attention.. got to math and it was absolutely horrible.. she whined complained, refused to do the work.. long story short. we stopped and I just started to cry! She had the saddest face, and while asking her to talk to me.. she finally said, I hate homeschooling. Its not at all what I thought and I just dont like it. Iwant to be in school with my friends, i dont like being home all day. so im stressed as it is.. trying to make this work,do my last college semester work being slow.. etc.. SO im just having a breakdown. I cant send her back to that PS. not to mention what will all the people and family say.. if this HS'ing doesnt workout??? Im a mess!
  8. My 10 yr old has her own laptop. This is only because It was mine previously and I was having issues with the vista and needed something I could rely on for my internet college courses. She really doesnt spend a whole lot of time on it, just some games Hopefully it will be handy for school work.
  9. ;) We took several breaks today & I'm thinking positive that each day will get a bit easier! and that a routine will fall into place :tongue_smilie:
  10. Ahh nice to hear I wasnt the only one going through this!! Sorry your day wasnt so good.. we had the same problem MATH! We were doing okay with the LOF and Spectrum, until in LOF chapt 3 we hit a bump.. at the 2 digit division! ugg.. she was so frustrated that I just stopped. I didnt want to make a huge issue and thought..Ill figure something out before tomorrow.;)
  11. Ahhh.. Day 3... Day 3 was not so good... Trying not to get frustrated here as I know we need to adjust and get into routine.. but " Did I make the right decision?" ran through my mind a billion times in the first hour! We hit a few bumps today.. and Math was the biggest! Im not going to "worry" to much yet.. I know we just started... But Im wondering how all the other "New to Hs'ing moms" are doing??
  12. LOL.. I have become a morning person the past several years, for some reason my body just wakes at 6:30 am. So I make coffee, and should go for a run, (maybe I can figure that out) Im thinking that maybe I should take advantage of the few "quiet" hours I'll get while shes still sleeping to do my own school work! I think tomorrow morning I'll let the little night owl sleep in a bit longer and see what happens ;)
  13. I'll have to try something different, giving her more time in the morning to wake up first. We did breakfast first but I guess I was afraid we wouldnt fit everything in if we started later. Maybe after an hour of awake time I'll try doing spelling first then we can move to math. She loves spelling, so perhaps that may work. Im feeling a little lost but I guess its all about finding a routine! ;)
  14. after finishing day two, I have realized that doing math first thing is not working, she was too tired and not awake enough to focus and just didnt want to do anything. Just wondering how you get a "non morning child" to get motivated !? ;) is 8 am to early??
  15. LOL thanks! You know how when something is all new, and before you start you have such great ideas.. then you get nervous and it all goes out the window!.. Im feeling a little nervous like I should have planned thiings better.. :001_huh:
  16. Okay.. so today is day 2 of our homeschooling journey.. day 1 was not bad. I felt a little lost but Im just taking it day by day & hoping we will find our groove. I do however feel I need ideas for projects and activities to keep her happy and so she doesnt feel like all we are doing is reading from text books. Im kind of drawing a blank.. I want her to have fun and enjoy this new experience! Any help is greatly appreciated! :D
  17. We are using LOF Fractions and Decimals this year along with Spectrum Math.
  18. Thanks everyone! I think it went pretty well. I think the biggest thing is the adjustment that she needs to realize we are not a PS classroom. She kind of expected me to be standing in front of the blackboard "teaching" .. We started at 8 and were mostly done by 11.. then I took her out to lunch to celebrate. She has called me 3 times already at work (my store) so I guess I have to kind of make her a list of things/projects to do in the afternoons when Im not there. But I think that its all going to work out fine once we get the routine going and she realizes that its more relaxed! ;) (than ps. ) Oh and p.s. .. The school responded and my IHIP was in compliance! Yippee! :D
  19. :D Well today is our first official day of homeschooling ! We got back on sat. from our 2 week vacation in Maine. (was a great distraction from the stress) We had a wonderful time with my parents and my brother and his family! We just love Maine!! Anyway its the morning of our first HS'ing experience ever.. im a little nervous & excited... didnt sleep very well.. but coffees on & here goes ...wish me luck !!! :D:D
  20. Thanks everyone! Im sure it will all work out.. I didnt make a big issue of it when she mentioned it to me, I simply said, well you have plenty of friends, and you have emails of your PS friends and you can call them and get together with them anytime. (We hadnt all summer because it just gets busy and really she didnt mention any of them) anyway.. she has wanted to homeschool for awhile so I think it will be fine.. I think maybe because its getting so close to back to school,, it made her realize shes not going & the change is almost here... we do not have any co-ops that I know of around. But she does have lots of cousins and other friends aside from school. And I reminded her that she can still play sports with her old friends. Shes such a social bug that Im sure its going to be an adjustment, but Im going to try and get her into some activities at the local gym, so she can meet new friends there too. Its just one of those things, that she mentioned to me last night and like I said , I didnt make an issue of it to her, but I took it to bed with me and then carried it on my mind all day today.. so I needed to get it out. Im sure its normal transition for both of us to feel a little funny until we get adjusted. excited, nervous.. exctited ...nervous.. ;) This forum has been such a great support for me! thanks everyone!:D
  21. I think its been around a while.. Years ago my aunt and grandmother use to go. They absolutely loved everything about it!
  22. My almost 10 yr old, asked me last night if she could return to PS for 6th grade.. because she feels like shes going to miss all her old friends... UGG...sigh.... We havent even started are first yr of HS'ing and she was on board with me from way before I made the decision and super excited when I did decide to let her HS. Im having such anxiety about it.. Im starting to feel guilty.. even though I know Im making the right decision for us for the time being. I wouldnt have a problem with her going to a better PS, its just we arent in the situation now for that. I do not want her going back to the district we live in, there are many reasons for that. Please tell me this will all work out.. Im starting to second guess myself. Im praying that in a few years financially we will be in a better place for her to attend a nice high school, if she so chooses. ( after homeschooling she may just change her mind right?? ) shes only going into 5th grade.. so we have time.
  23. BIG Yellow Lab 100+lbs Use to sleep on my bed & hog the bed. BIG Black Lab 100 lbs Moves in and starts sleeping Curled up at foot of my bed. :D Not so bad.. this moves BIG yellow lab to floor by my bed. BIG Black Lab gets reallly comfy in new house and now sprawls out in my bed..NOT so comfy... trying to get him to sleep on the floor But that big droopy face just gets me every time! occasionally they both get in a jealous mood and think that they can both fit! twin bed w/ 2 100lb + dogs and 115lb me.. doesnt work so well. :glare: LOL but the black one does occasionally go sleep with my daughter. Im set on not letting them on the furniture or beds when we move into the new house. Its just a pain to constantly wash the bedding~! Not to mention I dont get good sleep. But I do Love them!! :D
