  1. We had it for 3 months with the extra sports channels... Pros: low price, no contracts, take it anywhere with the app as long as you have internet, easy to cancel Cons: you can only watch it on one device at a time (which means everyone has to watch the same thing), you can't record anything, no local channels, not all the channels that we like. I'd say if you're used to being without cable, you'll like it, but if you're trying to get rid of cable and you have multiple tv watchers, it will be hard.
  2. We used Lively Latin before moving to Henle in 7th grade with my oldest two. It was a great introduction for all of us. I had never studied Latin before using LL and it was easy for me to use and learn. It really broke it down into baby steps for all of us. I actually liked that I could just print out what I needed every day or two. We tried Latin Prep before moving to Henle and it just didn't work for us.
  3. We used R&S through 5th grade and then switched to Horizons PreAlgebra in 6th. Now he's doing Saxon Algebra 1 in 7th. We didn't have any issues skipping the R&S 6th grade text.
  4. I used this article yesterday and it was very helpful... http://www.macworld.com/article/2010911/how-to-free-up-icloud-storage-space.html
  5. I came to ask the same question. My microwave died last week, and I'm wondering if the convection feature is worth spending an extra $150-$200 on. Maybe we'll get some responses. :-)
  6. Sea Captain's House-on the ocean Flying Fish Market and Grill-barefoot landing Islamorada Fish Company-next to bass pro shops Joe's Crab Shack-barefoot landing and broadway at the beach
  7. We have the online version. Book 1 for about 4 years now and Book 2 for about 6 months. I've never had any trouble logging in and printing out what I need. I thought I'd eventually print out the entire book, but that hasn't happened. I usually print out a week at a time in black and white.
  8. I would start with JAG after FLL4. AG ramps up quick and moves fast IMO. If my oldest hadn't had R&S for two years already, I would have had him complete JAG first before moving on. My plan right now is to finish AG over two years and then move on to their high school reinforcements along with SAT/ACT type grammar prep.
  9. We use Blue Buffalo duck recipe. I researched and switched because my rat terrier had a terrible skin rash that she licked and scratched all day. Mostly under control now unless she gets some cheap treats from my dad. :glare:
  10. We loved it! Of course, we had a great tutor and I know that can make all the difference. For science, the first 15 weeks were spent researching different biology topics and presenting them to the class. The second 15 weeks were spent memorizing and studying different systems of the body. Our tutor also did a frog dissection, but I don't know if that's standard. I also took my boys to a weekly science class to get some more hands-on science time. Henle Latin was a definite challenge, but I'm glad we stuck with it. He had spent the previous 3 years slowly working through Lively Latin I. IEW the first semester was the most time consuming and most difficult for my son because he hadn't done much writing prior to that. Saxon 8/7 was my least favorite. We dropped it after a couple of months and switched to a Pre-Algebra text. He continued to participate with the others during math though. Once the CC year ended a few weeks ago, I added Analytical Grammar to his because there is no formal grammar study in CC.
  11. I think JAG would best follow FLL4, but I say that having never seen it (other than samples). I do have FLL 4 and AG, and I think that transition would be quite a leap in intensity for my boys. My 7th grader just started AG this month, and prior to that he had completed FLL3, FLL4, and two years of R&S 5. My 5th grader is finishing up FLL 4. Next year he'll do Essentials with Classical Conversations, and then my plan is to complete JAG before moving to AG.
  12. We used FLL 4 for 5th grade grammar this year, and we'll use Jr. Analytical Grammar next year. I have R&S 5, and used it with my oldest, but my middle child gets overwhelmed by R&S and prefers to have a workbook curriculum.
  13. Math, Latin, and Science. *I* want to pick English as the third, but I have to pick science for the boys since they love it so much.
  14. I used Big Book of Lively Latin when mine were in 4th and 6th. Worked out well.
  15. Can't speak to moving to Dolciani after MM5, but we are using Dolciani PreAlgebra and supplementing with the MM worksheets for 7th/8th grade. It will probably take a full year or maybe longer and then we'll move into Algebra. This is good to know since we've only been doing the odd.
  16. Hands-on science and grammar review are the two things I added to the Challenge A curriculum. My son attends a science class once a week for the messy/fun science, and we did/will work on grammar review during the breaks. Our CC community has 6 weeks between fall and spring and about 6 weeks after the spring session ends. Does yours have that? That would be a good time to add anything you need.
  17. One lesson of Saxon Math a day plus addition/subtraction math flashcards Reading one or two early-reader books plus sight-word flashcards One or two pages of handwriting Mondays he does a 2-hour science class
  18. I just started using Galore Park French with my 5th grader. I'll probably use book one for the next couple of years combined with lots of vocabulary. I have a minor in French but that only helps me with the grammar and not the speaking. I'll have him work with a native speaker in order to complete French 1.
  19. Are either of you doing the Disneyland 1/2 at the end of August? I'm thinking of doing the Dumbo Double Dare (10k and 1/2) to get my coast-to-coast medal. Registration opens today. Not cheap...but when is anything associated with Disney cheap?!
  20. My Crossfit gym scales all the workouts for your individual fitness level. I think anyone can do it. I suggest you meet with the gym owner and share your concerns. Someone at my box (what Crossfit calls their gyms) recently shared this blog post... http://www.poshmeets...t-crossfit.html
  21. I like Jeff Galloway's plans because he encourages walk breaks and his midweek runs are just maintenance runs. You don't have to spend all your free time during the week running. His plan is http://jeffgalloway....f_marathon.html
  22. Just ran (well, run/walk using Galloway) the Disney marathon last weekend. 1st time doing a marathon and it was a doozy. Should have done a better job following my training plan but was having IT band issues. Fortunately, Disney does a lot to keep you distracted from the many, many, many miles. I'm going to do some 5k and 10k races through the spring and summer to work on speed. My next long race will probably be Disney's Wine and Dine 1/2 marathon in November.
  23. I paid $25/month for a gym membership I never used. Now I pay $100 for a gym that I use 4x a week. I like the challenge that Crossfit provides, and I like that it's something different every time I walk in. I get bored doing the same thing every time I go to the gym, which is why I never went to Zumba, kickboxing, step, etc., for very long. So for me, it's worth it. Workout example...I did the following for 3 rounds and for time...400m run, 21 kettle bell swings, 12 pull-ups...3 rounds took me 14m 15s. This was scaled for me with a lighter kettle bell and a band to assist with the pull ups. We usually do a warm up, practice some type of strength move (back squats for example), followed by the workout. We then cool down and stretch. I guess I could do this in my garage at home, but I really like the motivation that comes from working with trainers (usually 2 for our group of 10-15) and other crossfitters.
