  1. Do you have a clinic in your area for walk-ins or emergencies? ER? I'm going through this right now with ds, the alcohol worked at first, for 3 days he said his ear felt fine, but then it started hurting again and rapidly became worse, the pain intensifying to shooting pains. So, I took him in to the Dr. this past Thursday. He was given an oral antibiotic 2 a day for 5 days and antibiotic ear drops for 10 days. There was no visible drainage in ds ear, but when the Dr. examined him she saw a small amount of drainage. I am worried that you can actually see the yellowish green drainage, that indicates a nasty infection. In some really bad cases the eardrum has been known to perforate and that would be terrible and even more painful than an ear infection alone. I'm gently encouraging you to try to get her seen by a dr. *somewhere* today. Monday is a long way off considering this is giving the infection even more time to get worse. Good luck to you and your dd. I hope she gets better soon. :)
  2. two boys, 10 and 7 and one girl 21 months. perfectly happy with them! :)
  3. But... I have always heard that boys writing skills really begin to take off at this age if you start slowly requiring more and more from them. So that's what I'll be doing. I just started using WWE this past week and we're going to go through it at a faster pace,( because this is remedial work for a boy who has done just about all subjects except math and handwriting practice orally until now). This way I will know we've covered all the steps. Once we get through it I'll put him into WS 3 which we already have, it has a great introduction addressed to the child telling him/her that it's time for him/her to start doing this stuff on their own in a very encouraging and slow way. I think the first lesson has the child write 2 or 3 words and progresses from there. I'm hoping that this time next year he'll be on level of where he should be. HTH :)
  4. and really like them. They are simplistic, as others ahve noted, but I think the grammar years should be just that. For us they really fit the bill. :)
  5. I was gonna throw in my 2 cents, but I see you've mde up your mind. :) Best of luck to you and your ds.
  6. with my boys 10 and 7. I decided to just start at the beginning with both of them and just progress through more quickly for my 10 year old, giving him copy work and narration each day. I enjoyed reading what others are doing and agree that this book is great! Best of luck to us all and our dc! :)
  7. This is a book by Gillet Burgess, author of the poem- The Goops My kids and I were enjoying this earlier today, just wanted to share :) http://books.google.com/books?id=s4gaAAAAMAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=THE+GOOPS+AND+HOW+TO+BE+THEM&ei=Tl6TSJTmOZX4iQHW_rTRAg&hl=en#PPT17,M1
  8. I am so excited to start using this with ds's 10 and 7! This is the most excited I've been in a while about anything! This is perfect, it's just what we needed to get them both where they need to be in this area. I just can't wait to put it into use. Did I mention it's perfect? Doing a little happy dance  here.
  9. We will soon be finishing up CHOW and I've been looking for something similar for the next stage. Do you think these would be appropriate for Logic stage? Thanks so much for responding to my question! :)
  10. it's not necessary, but would certainly be nice to have. :)
  11. by someone (I want to say abbeyej ?) to use letter stamps with ink, always seemed like a great idea but I could never find any that wouldn't have been messy, I'm a neatnik though) We just did handwriting till ds tired of it and then did the rest orally, I'm doing the same right now ith younger ds. HTH :)
  12. your concerns, I've been debating this same thing as there is a small group in our town trying to stir trouble for homeschoolers. Thanks!
  13. it does tell you to cross out the prepositonal phrase and yes, I think you could just tell your dc to put it in parentheses instead, without any problems. JMHO, HTH :)
  14. This looks perfect! I'm off to search for it used somewhere, if someone happens to have one for sale feel free to pm me I can pay with non cc paypal. :)
  15. The 2 excerpts look great, I like the writing style and neither page seemed overly religious in tone. I've been looking for something to follow where CHOW leaves off. This seems like it might be what I've been looking for. What do you think? Thanks!
  16. Isn't there anyone familliar with these books?
  17. The combo has worked very well for my dc, and I'm sure it will for yours as well. :)
  18. Where does it begin and where does it end in time? Is it set up like a textbook or is it more narrative? How strong is the religious view in it if at all? I don't mind religion, I just prefer to keep it a seperate subject. Any info would be helpful, I can't find anywhere online to see inside it. Thanks!
  19. If you want to actually flip through the pages (so to speak) and get a better feel for the series: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44972
  20. That is so funny, I'm sure it was embarrassing, but It made me LOL. :)
