  1. I'm not a faithful blog reader, but I happened across Colleen's blog a few days ago and I have to say I like it the best of all the blogs I've looked at. She has the most amazing pictures on there and a little caption with each one, I found it very interesting. :)
  2. I'm thinking of printing it out and when someone asks why I homeschool I'll just hand it to them, lol... http://www.picayuneitem.com/homepage/local_story_228150605.html
  3. Only because I'm feeling really misunderstood, if you read the first page of posts, the last one on page one in particular and then mine, maybe it will make sense. http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48597 I was just being funny (or trying to anyway), now I feel like a complete dumb *ss. :001_huh:
  4. OMG! What a birth story! Congratulations!
  5. If I say I won't tell anyone then I don't tell anyone. It's a trust thing to me, I would expect it situations reversed.
  6. For the most part, except I try to be more succinct here, whereas I'm bad to ramble on in real life. I sometimes worry I'm coming across as short, but I don't want to go on and on about anything either. :)
  7. Well, duh! That's why I asked in another thread if she had been posting here. OK, I had no idea.:tongue_smilie:
  8. Oh, that's awful. Try not to feel bad, though. You were doing the right thing. None of this would even be a big deal had the lady been more gracious. I'm sure your kiddos learned a lesson from all of this. :)
  9. We'll be doing just what your planning plus the 5th grade recommendations from TWTM. HTH! :)
  10. I have a 10 yo, 7 yo and 21 mo. I start the oldest doing independent work while I work one on one with ds 7 and take time with the 21 mo here and there when possible (or sometimes demanded). When 7 yo finishes he then plays with 21 mo while I work one on one with 10 yo. HTH :)
  11. After having used Spelling Workout for 4 years with not-so-good results, we recently made the switch to SP and my ds 10 is having great results. We started it 3 weeks ago at the beginning (even though he tested higher), I wanted to be sure nothing was left out that he might need to study and sure enough that's where he needed to start. But he has zoomed through it and has 8 word lists to go before we start the next level. So, we are new to SP, but I can say that it is a great program and I am definitely seeing great results. :)
  12. For the same reason we study History and Science starting in 1st grade. You give them just enough info to familliarize them with the subject and each year go a little more in depth. Then when they get to 6th grade level they breeze on through. I think this is better than plopping them into a 6th grade text in 6th grade and then expecting them to soak it all up, much less enjoy it. Just my thoughts, HTH. :)
  13. Good for you! :) I've seen these on Amazon and thought about buying them, but having never heard anything about them I've put off buying them. I'd love to know what you think of them. :)
  14. :iagree: This is just what I was gonna say.:tongue_smilie:
  15. :iagree: This book is specifically for those grades and is really great IMHO
  16. I really like the Bible Study from Rod and Staff, it's chronological and thorough. We will soon begin the 5th grade set and I'm pretty sure we'll go on to use the higher grades, as well.HTH :)
  17. :iagree: That's similar to what I'm doing with ds 10.
  18. I posted it not too long ago, but this way anyone who missed it before will see it. :)
  19. We've used 1 and 2 and are doing some remedial work with ds using WWE and will head into WS 3 at some point (just not sure when). I really like WS, but I can't speak to it's effectiveness on a whole. :)
  20. Have you read The Well Trained Mind? There's a chapter in there that will answer all your questions better than I could. :)
  21. I'm adding this to my grocery list, sounds yummy! Thanks! :)
  22. Oh, I was more  "she responded in the thread at least a couple times to comments made" I thought you meant EE, reading through the thread again, I see that isn't the case. Silly me. :tongue_smilie:
