  1. In my earlier post I referred to an Optho-Neurologist. My doctor specializes only in eye/brain combo issues. They have all of the equipment to do the eye tests in their office. Have you ever been to one of those? I only mention this because my doctor said that he would only send me to a regular neurologist if it turned out to be regular old migraines.
  2. Very well put. I actually thought it was unusual that I was so successful with 50mg. I thought most people had to be on a much higher dose. I have notice that I can't always find the words that I am looking for and my spelling has gone down the drain. The spelling could be my reliance on spell check though. :001_smile:
  3. Topomax isn't a medication that you should be on for a short period of time. Your should start off at a very small dose 25mg or less and work up in 25 mg increments on a weekly basis. It sounds like your husband wasn't administered this medication properly.
  4. I found my Neuro-Opthamologist to be really helpful. There aren't very many around but if you can find one I would highly suggest it. It certainly sounds like you are due for a follow up. Of course you may already be seeing one and in that case I hope they're helping. Hope you're feeling better soon.
  5. That sounds like an incredibly unreasonable policy. It clearly had to have been put in to place for children who were skipping school on a repeated regular basis as a deterrent. I would definitely pursue this further and meet with the principal in person if possible. Typically I'm fairly vocal in situations like this and would tell him that it's not a reasonable expectation and my daughter should not be held to the same standard of someone who is skipping school. I would then request that he look at her attendance records from last year as proof. This does sound like it might be a wonderful opportunity but at the same time it could be REALLY difficult to catch up after missing the first week of school. I'm sure the camp is scheduled during those dates for a reason, maybe they have some experience dealing with schools in this situation. I have to imagine it must occur on a fairly regular basis.
  6. I've had really great luck with Topomax. I take it for Intracranial Hypertension. I started with the Diamox but don't have problems with my vision and the Diamox didn't lower my pressure so the doctor told me I didn't need to be on it. I requested to go on the Topomax specifically for the Topomax and the related benefit of possible weight loss. I did have a fairly long adjustment period with some pretty severe muscle aches, but since then I've been doing really well. I've been really happy at 50 mg which is a really low dose, most people take a much higher dose. I've worked really hard to lose weight and have already lost 20 pounds since May. I'm hoping to get to my goal of losing 10 - 15 more in the next few month. Long story short. Once I got through the first few weeks, I haven't had any major issues. I do occasionally have tingling in my hands or feet. I'm also very aware of my kidneys as I'm already predisposed to getting kidney stones. Hope some of this helps. It's late and I'm not sure if I'm making any sense.
  7. Thinking about you. I can't imagine how hard this must be. Hope everything works out for you and your family.
  8. This is the one I would like, but it's rather expensive.
  9. I can't imagine a need to have a tea party, but that sounds amazing. I hope the OP can use some of your ideas.
  10. Have a fun week. In Washington this is some of the best weather we get all year. Once September hits so will the rain. We're going to try starting August 23rd.
  11. I let my 5 yo out if he's with one of his older brothers. He really wants to be able to go out alone or with one of the neighbor kids but I'm not really comfortable with that. We live in a circular neighborhood with 14 sets of duplexes and they like to ride their bikes around the circle. I was okay with my middle son doing that when we moved here two years ago. He was 6 1/2. I think I might be more strict if we had a backyard, but the front common lawn is the only place to play besides riding their bikes.
  12. I had no idea that they would reimburse for CurrClick. I'm always learning something new from you. :001_smile:
  13. We have Lively Latin too, although I ordered the CD version via a vendor order. I'm excited to start.
  14. CVA's "library" is just curriculum items and books previously bought for a family that was returned. Rather than buying new from the vendor, we can get these items from CVA's library if they have a copy available. It costs less because only the cost of shipping is taken from your student fund rather than the full price of the new curriculum plus tax and shipping. Like any item, you can keep library items until you are done with them. This was another question I just specifically asked them because I received a book I ordered from the library rather than from the vendor, and it came with a due date of next June. I expect to use this book in future years so I asked and was told it could be kept just like any other item. That's good to know. It's frustrating that sometimes your receive different answers from different people. I know how much time you put in to this so I'm going with you on this one. I'm crossing my fingers that the info I received today about CBI's is correct.
  15. Wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have to write an SLP. Unfortunately we have to write one for all required subjects plus any other subjects we want funded. Joann seems to have answered the question about keeping assets until we are finished with them. I'm not sure where I had previously heard that. I certainly hope that is the case. I do think in terms of the library we will be asked to return those items when we are finished using them. I'd prefer not to worry about having to ship things back and forth. I like receiving mail, but I don't like sending it.
  16. I wish we could get piano lessons for $7. There's no way I'd find that here.
  17. :grouphug: I've been there many times. I don't think I every had to take antibiotics, but it was definitely mastitis. All of the previous posters advice is right on. Nurse as much as possible tonight. You may feel better in the more. Hot washcloths and a hot shower are your best friends.
  18. In regards to the library being easier to access I think that in turn will up our responsibility to return assets back to CVA. I have assets that I purchased last year that I don't intend on returning as long as we are with the program, ie. a microscope. It sounds as if now you order for example a 5th grade math book you would need to return it when you were completed. In the past I would have been able to save that book for my other child who would be using it very soon. In that situation you would be having to "purchase" the book on more than one occasion. That seems to me a huge waste of resources on materials that one family could use several times over the course of a year. I understand that theoretically you could then request that book from the library, but at that point you would have already had to pay shipping both directions. At this point we're definitely going to stick it out and make the best of our CBI's. I will happily purchase our curriculum and know that I can resell it when we are no longer in need of it.
  19. In the past they have paid for these types of books. It sounds like in the future if they're available from the library then they would come from there. I've always made it my personal policy to order them through CVA if they were available through Rainbow Resource if not order them through Amazon myself. CVA does allow you to order through B&N if there aren't other vendors that have what your looking for, it's just not there first choice. I'm not going to order these types of things from CVA this year because I don't want to be constantly shipping them back. When we first started the policy that was stated to me was that we could keep our assets until we no longer had a child enrolled with CVA. For me that would have been 14 years so I wasn't at all worried about it.
  20. I just got a call back. The person that I spoke with, spoke with the principal in our district, so hopefully this will hold true. We will be able to use our entire allocation towards CBI's if that's what we want to do. She didn't seem to think that 5 hours worth of classes would be too many. Everyone will be asked to clearly define what curriculum they are using. I'm very confident in my curriculum choices, I don't foresee having any issues with this.
  21. I'm currently waiting for a call back for our office (Orient). They are trying to find out if it will be okay to use our entire allocation towards CBI's. I certainly hope so. If it's only a small percentage I definitely don't think that will be worth it for me. Keeping my fingers crossed.
