  1. DD12 started lesson 2 today and didn't use the video. She said she didn't need it and she found the video last week to be very boring. That said, I'm glad I have the video just in case we run into a snag - maybe it will help us figure it out.
  2. Do any of you know where I can find a master's program where I can get a degree in online teaching (in public schools)? I have been searching for awhile and have only come up with Boise State. I'm not entirely sure I would be certified when I would finish their program. Also, I don't have a B.A. in education, it is in Theology. Thanks for reading this!
  3. :bigear: I have a reluctant typing student here (age almost 13) and need something she will enjoy.
  4. We are. We are going to liturgy at 7am and then going out for breakfast. I got them each an art sticker book instead of our usual school supplies basket. I hope they like it and aren't disappointed. I am looking forward to the return to structure, too. We do really well as a family when we have our days planned out consistently.
  5. Definitely keep an eye on the math. It isn't always laid out in a way I like. I am supplementing a lot with MM and lots of manipulatives. I really like K12, though, and think it is a great alternative to a pure homeschooling curriculum.
  6. :iagree: We make a conscious effort not to give in to fear and we talk to our kids about it. We feel very fortunate that we have neighbors who allow their kids to run around and play with ours. In contrast there is a child in the neighborhood who never gets to play because her parents are so afraid. We have (sadly) given up on trying to have a relationship with them.
  7. I will be taking a hard and thorough look at this, then.
  8. Thank you, Hunter. These are great resources. You always find the best stuff! :001_smile:
  9. Yes, I should say it will. You've given me a lot to do and to think about. I'm glad the fair is several months away!
  10. Thanks Ruth! This gives me some good ideas. Do you mind posting the other letters? What kinds of prizes did you award the winners?
  11. I am responsible for hosting our homeschool organization's first science fair and I don't know where to start. Does anyone know of a good resource to walk me through it? I know where I can get judges (lots of scientists in our group). I need to know about the administrative stuff. I have googled it and haven't come up with anything that is very clear. Thanks!
  12. I have been meaning to thank you as well, Rosie. *I* have learned more than the kids - it is making me a better teacher. You have opened a new world for me. Thank you!
  13. This has been our experience. The dresses are especially short. I have bought them in higher sizes the few times I have gotten them for my girls.
  14. I've been following these and learning a lot. I got the book and am glad I did. I have also been using Education Unboxed every day. My 4yo and 8yo want to see Zoe and Haven whenever they see me watching them. My 8yo watched the polynomials video (of which was unaware) and really enjoyed it. Those videos have opened up a new world for me.
  15. The Handbook of Nature Study on Kindle really isn't very good. Mine may be a pdf, though. It was bad enough that i have never tried again. The document was so big that it took forever to load. That kind of document would have to be organized very well for it to work on Kindle.
  16. The Kindle is a major part of our homeschool. I have gone so far as to cut the binding off of most of my instructor's manuals and scan them in to my Kindle. They never get lost anymore and I keep back-ups just in case the Kindle breaks. Is the Fire even more convenient? I go back and forth on it. I could see it being useful for someone who is using a textbook with links.
  17. I like K12 science a lot. A friend of mine who is a scientist highly recommends them and I am finding that it goes well with BFSU. It is also easy to implement and the projects/experiments have been useful.
  18. My 11 year old son has done this with a lot of success for over a year. He makes around $30 a month.
  19. We would be using Rod & Staff next if my dc didn't dislike it so much. We will be using Hake instead. Both are very good programs.
  20. Du and I spent 4 months there while we were in college. We loved it!
