  1. I have the hairdryer that I got when I was 12 and I am 37 now. I have a bottle of hairspray from when we got married in 1996. It is aerosol and makes dh sick if I bring it out to spray the girls' hair. I just braid my hair while it is wet and don't do anything else to it or else it is cut too short to bother with either the dryer or the spray so they have lasted all these years.
  2. :iagree: The points above have been my experience as well. The Let's Play Math blog has a study/discussion going on right now based on a teacher's book that uses Singapore math. Liping Ma was involved in the creation of the book. (Sorry, I don't have it in front of me and am on my phone so I can't link it). I think the book being used in the study is much better at teaching how to teach math. It is worth a look.
  3. Oh, I love these books. Definitely get your hands on at least one if you can. Even my 12 yo dd loves them.
  4. I agree with the Let's Read and Find Out Series. I own nearly every one made in the newer paperbacks and I find them immensely useful, mostly for the lower grades but some even for the upper elementary. Just about anything by Robert E. Wells is also enjoyed here.
  5. I just looked at their front page and don't see a problem. Perhaps I overlooked something, though. Even if there is a grammar mistake on their front page, the CLRC is a great classical school. We have had a wonderful experience with them this year and plan to continue to enroll there for the foreseeable future.
  6. My daughter is taking Greek with them this year. In fact, she is meeting with her teacher for a tutoring session as I type this. I have only had good experiences with the school and plan to enroll my children in three more of their courses next year. One of their teachers is Anne van Fossen and she is a member here.
  7. The zoo, the RV, and the Roman sets have had lots of play in our house. It really just depends on the types of toys your ds plays with. Mine was never one for construction toys but his cousin loves his Playmobil vehicle and construction sets.
  8. What about Flat World Knowledge? Is it just as good as CK12? Also, for the 7th grade math, is that considered pre-algebra or is it just a general math course? Thanks, OP, for bringing CK12 up! I introduced the math book I asked about to my 12 year old today and she is enjoying it so far.
  9. We have been hospitalized many, many times (dozens) because of exposure to illness. The steps I take are to go in and tell the receptionist at the doctor's office that we are there and sign in and then tell them that we will be waiting in the car. They call us when they are ready to take us back. I also stay home when I know bad stuff is going around, that unfortunately includes church or other important things in our lives. We also don't often got to childcare at the YMCA or use public restrooms if we can avoid it. If we can't, I tell the caregivers to be careful and I make sure the ones who are illness prone wash well afterwards. I'm not a naturally paranoid person. It took a long time for me to realize these things were necessary and it was hard to accept. One of our children has an auto-immune disease (Crohns) and was on predisone. She was hospitalized more while she was on the steroids but she was also very sick otherwise. Trial and error will tell you how worried and protective you should be. :grouphug: I'm glad you guys figured out what is wrong. I hope the medication helps.
  10. I think so, but I do wonder about its durability. Two of my kids have medic alert bracelets and my experience has been that they have to be mighty tough. They are awfully cute, though! I would be interested to know what the chain is made out of.
  11. Yes, please! I think ds is getting old enough for this. I remember watching someone do it a long time ago, maybe on a movie, and thinking how cool that was. The more information you can give the better. :001_smile:
  12. Yes, and expeller pressed. I forgot to say that I also use it for the oil in boxed brownies. It is very good!
  13. Coconut oil does well heated. It is very stable. I use it in baking and in smoothies. It can also help with losing weight. Put a tablespoon into some tea or take it straight 20 minutes before a meal. I'm not sure why it works, but it helps with the weight loss. There is a woman here who gives it to her mother who has Alzheimer disease. Her memory has improved - she has started working puzzles and playing games again.
  14. I ordered the atlas. I think that will give him plenty to play around with for awhile. Thank you!
  15. Thanks for this! I ordered one of them this morning.
  16. I am looking for books for my 10 year old son that gives details about strategies that have been used in battles. He uses his figures to set them up but is frustrated because he can't find actual accounts in books. Has anyone run across anything like this?
  17. I have TWTM, WEM, SOTW 1, and just about all of SWB's pdf files on my kindle. I use the Kindle almost exclusively for my teacher's guides. I also have the LCC pdf and lots of classics along with whatever Sonlight books are available and that the kids would like to read on their Kindle. I've scanned quite a bit of consumable materials and put them on it for reference as well. It is ever by my side during school. :001_smile:
  18. :iagree: My children have most of this memorized just from casual listening.
