  1. I have an earlier model of the first and we love it. I've loaned it out friends and they were pleased with it as well.
  2. I am compelled once again to post the "Woof" clip from The Office.
  3. Yes, I enjoyed the movie as well, something I never thought I would say about a zombie movie. "Come for Brad Pitt, stay for the zombies."
  4. We just did. I now have permission from eaglei to give her address to those who PM me.
  5. She just got back to me and agreed to have me give her address to those who PM me. It is very difficult for her right now.
  6. Flowing Brook got back to me via PM and asked me to get eaglei's permission to give her address to those who want to send cards. I sent her a PM but I am not sure when she will check in again. I don't know her personally so I can't call her. I could send snail mail but it would have to cross the country. :) Hopefully she checks in soon.
  7. It was the folkloric feel of Beloved that made me love the book so much, along with the haunting tone. It is really disturbing, though. The sense of detachment in some parts reminded me of Bastard Out of Carolina. I'm glad you enjoyed The Most Dangerous Book. I think my favorite thing about the book was the ways in which all these people came together to make something happen. It made me feel much more sympathy for Joyce, esp in regards to his medical conditions. He worked through so much pain in the end Ulysses seemed a compulsion to write.
  8. I've just been spending time on Eliot's Four Quartets (still!) I did finish 2 books that were not on my list but that DS read and wanted to be able to discuss with me: Holes and The London Eye Mystery. Both were really interesting and made for fun talks. I have been reading an old edition of Kipling's Kim aloud to the kids. I am not a Kipling fan at all but we found a wonderfully illustrated 1962 Heritage Press copy of Kim at a library book sale for $1 and DH convinced me to buy it. I love this book and the kids do too. There's a fair amount of background information I have to give them, so it's slow going. But we're all getting so much out of it. Who knows as we go on, but for now it feel different from Kipling's other books. I've been generally ignoring the whole zombie trend for the last few years but I really did enjoy WWZ. It's the format that made the book for me I think.
  9. I made it through one of my big eating holidays with 23g of carbs, which was more than usual. I chalked it up to extra blueberries and some popcorn.
  10. Yeah, we're eating in a bit here. I specifically bought an apple pie for dessert because I'm un-American and don't like it. I did add almonds and blueberries to the salad and bought broccoli slaw to go with the grilled meat. I also got potato salad for the carbers.
  11. I would say $700k-$1M. Like everywhere it depends on location. But another factor is how well-maintained the home is. We have a lot folder Craftsman bungalows and Victorians. A really-well maintained Victorian is worth more than a 1950s ranch with the same sf and BR/BA.
  12. I like the 6-panel doors. I also like 1-panel doors better than plain door. But I would prefer solid wood doors over paneled doors if I had to choose. Are you thinking of solid 6-paneled doors, or hollow?
  13. I've also never been asked, but it's been a few years since I showed up with an injury. I do remember being asked if it happened at work, because I guess workers' comp could kick in. But that was the extent of it.
  14. I just bought some to try!
  15. Cherries are my favorite fruit. We're grilling tonight with some family so I'm going to get some veggies and meat ready for that. I set out popcorn for guests and was happy I only ate a few pieces. Popcorn used to be on my daily menu and I used to eat it with abandon!
  16. I'll wait and see what Liz says. I also have eaglei's name and address and can PM her if Liz doesn't respond.
  17. While poking around for you I found this book. It might have ideas. The description is on a different page. Sorry I don't have any other ideas.
  18. Let's see... I'm not craft and I aggressively avoid crafting. I can;t see much of your pinterest and I don't have an account, so sorry if these are dupes. These little dolls on the left side of the page (scroll down) look cute. The carnaval headdress is kind of self-explanatory if you get the foam visors and shapes, along with the feathers at the craft store. Rainsticks? Paper bowls with Mayan designs.
  19. I tried using it with DS and he wasn't that into it. I still need to try DD. It's a program with philosophical questions for kids to discuss and puzzle out. The K stuff is fairly straightforward and includes ideas like fairness and such. I have the foundation volume and at the time I bought it there were some ancillary materials I don't see on the web site now. If you're interested I could dig it out of the garage.
  20. Thanks. I like the book and I think my kids would like it too but I don't have enough background knowledge to provide as much constructive criticism as others here. I'll just leave a link for another philosophy program by RFWP. I think yours is easier, but you might want to take a look at other competition.
  21. The LA Times had this interesting article about a marriage clerk in KY who's against issuing marriage licenses to gay couples. He has an interesting solution: make it an online service and take people out of the equation. I can't say I agree with his stance, although he states it reasonably. I do like the online option, though.
  22. We haven't done any of these but I wanted to point out the socratic discussion class is new this fall so you won't find anyone who's done it.
  23. Yep, this is a neighbor, which makes it difficult. Luckily they don't seem to have the spa/pageant inclination, but they have the mom who's more of a friend than a parent.
  24. I liked 7 and 24. Some were not to my taste but I'd rather not say which ones or why as their owners may be on the boards. :)
