So did you get your "rebate" check?
KristineIN replied to angela in ohio's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I just wanted to say, this was a great idea, I wish we could do more, but I know we are playing catch up from a slow winter (dh is self employed) Basically the check is already spent! :tongue_smilie: The majority of surveys that I see about "what are you doing with your check?" seem to be that people are using it to pay down debt. Build a house, just to build a house-no, we looked into it and settled on buying, it was cheaper in the long run in the market that we are in. Build a house vs. remodel- yes, I hate remodeling and if I had the chance to get exactly what I want by building, then I'd move for a year and build. Good luck! Kristine

My friend has kids that are Celiac's, I normally use Hellman's because she knows it's safe. I asked her about Aldi's because it says "Contains: Eggs" and to me that means it does not contain, wheat, milk or soy. Here was her response: The problem with mayonaise is not that it contains wheat, but that the distilled vinegar used in it often uses wheat in the distilling process. The only way to know if this is the case is for us to contact the company directly. Sometimes they don't know; they just get their vinegar from another source. We have been told directly by Hellman's that there's is indeed gluten-free. I believe we have been told the same thing by Kraft, but I don't remember for sure. That's why we stick with Hellman's. If you need to use something else, my kids can just eat something else. Don't worry about it! However, she's the same friend that will let her children lick the icing out of cookies, the cream out of donuts and the frosting off the cakes and donuts. :glare: I think I'm going to just joke with her about this and let her make the call if she lets the girls eat chicken salad (for a ladies luncheon.) Thanks, Kristine

Frontline plus...Anyone have a good supplier?
KristineIN replied to praisefor3's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I always get it off of ebay and I get it for the largest dog possible and split the doses accordingly, you can find someplace on-line to help you figure out the quantities. Kristine -
How did you go about it? When did you have it? What time did you go from? My friend and I would like to organize one, we are in a big area that really doesn't have anything like that. We were thinking June 21st, not sure on the time, at our local church. Also, what about companies that maybe have local people and would want to set up a booth? Anyone know how to contact people. There are several people in Indiana that sell curriculum. We know relatives of Nature's Workshop Plus that live here in the area and so we thought it would be neat to see if they wanted to come. Thanks, Kristine

What do you think? We have a bunch of styrofoam bowls that we were given, it's a neighborhood sale and the neighbor says everyone does hot dogs. I was thinking Nachos and charging $1.00 a bowl. What do you think? I'd just get a few boxes of chips and a few #10 cans of sauce and use a crock pot. The one neighbor girl is supposedly doing pop & water, I think we'll also do lemonade. Thanks. Idol people, what did you think of tonight?
KristineIN replied to KristineIN's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I just did a search and Carly got voted off last night. Kristine -
I've planted some spinach, I just dug up today from our former house, raspberries, so we won't get any this year, but will in the future. I have a few tomato plants started. I will also plant, peppers, just a few, zucchini, cucumbers and green beans. We will just have a small area. But I uncovered some dead stuff the other day that was in chicken wire and fence posts, underneath was a huge mound of compost. I can't wait to till up a garden and put in on there. Kristine

"Gardening When It Counts" - Anyone read this?
KristineIN replied to Plaid Dad's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Our library doesn't have it, but I'm going to put in a purchase request! Kristine -
I have some pictures on my blog, we recently got a newer desk, it's towards the top, but our homeschool area is at the bottom. Kristine

What would you make sure you include? I'm helping host a Mom's Night out. I said I'd speak about different styles, classical, unit studies, CM, text book, etc. What resources would you point people to? I was thinking the one by Cathy Duffy, about 100 Top Curriculum picks. I'm looking for books that might talk about all styles, not just one style. Any other advice? I think this can be beneficial for new homeschoolers that might just be getting started, or even current homeschoolers that aren't even aware of the different styles. Thanks, Kristine

Death in the family - poems or songs?
KristineIN replied to BMW's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm so sorry for your loss. When my cousin was killed in a car accident almost four years ago, one song that they played is One More Day by Diamond Rio. I like listening to it every now and then to just remember. He was a close cousin that I grew up with and was almost like a brother. Kristine -
Vita Mix - worth the money?
KristineIN replied to Alexandra's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We have one as well and use it quite a bit, I love how it pulverizes tomatoes and how smooth smoothies are. Kristine -
Ok, I'm trying to wrap my brain around all of this, I look at things like this as far as healthy eating, what I allow my family to do, etc. I do the best that I can with what I have, I'm doing much better than the person that I see in the grocery store with pop, poptarts, sugared cereal, cookies, cakes, frozen meals, etc, but we are human, we eat things that come in plastic containers, sour cream, milk, cheese. I figure this, there is one thing certain in life, and that is death. Yes, we are all going to die some day. I'm trying to make it so that we live as long as possible, but I'm not going to worry about things, I'm not going to take my childrens Legos away just to add a few extra years to their life. Also, I woke up this morning, used shampoo in a plastic bottle, put minerals make up on that came in a plastic container, am using a plastic keyboard and mouse and the list goes on and on. So I'm just curious if you are taking all of your childrens toys away because of the plastic, what do you do about the rest of the things in your house? Even beans come in plastic bags? Anyway, sorry, but this is just baffling my mind. We have always used glass dishes, glasses to drink out of and pyrex containers for the most part..... Kristine

beginning potty training...
KristineIN replied to Jennifer in NH's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm sorry, but I'm just baffled because I don't see what's so funny about letting a two year old just pee all over. I'm glad my kids are older now. Mine didn't potty train until they were ready and showed the signs, they were well over three, but I wasn't the one trained. good luck. Kristine -
We don't eat a ton of it, but eat it about once a week, we probably eat more potatoes than rice. I do have a lot of different kinds of beans, we get them from our local food co-op. We could live for quite a while on those things if we had to. Kristine
